When you lock eyes with a woman, how important is that initial eye contact? Is it very telling and a clear indication of mutual attraction, or is it still not enough reassurance?

I know this is probably very hard to measure, but I thought it would still be very interesting to talk about. I signed up for a 6 week acting class and I remember day 1 scanning the room seeing who’s enrolled. That’s when she walked in. She turned the corner from the elevator and we immediately made eye contact from across the room. It was at that moment I knew I wanted to get to know her.

6 weeks of classes go by and we’ve spent a lot of time together. After every class we’d always go for a walk and chat it up, and get closer. We spoke about perception on week 3 and how people perceive others, and I told her “when I saw you walk into class that first day I thought you were gonna be mean.” I could see her eyes slightly widen when I revealed that I still remembered how we met before even speaking. On the final day during a train ride, she rests her head on my shoulder and we hold hands. That’s when she says,

“I also noticed you the moment I walked in.”

I held that memory close to me because I was super attracted to her the moment I saw her. So I guess I’m wondering if she also felt the exact same way. That’s when I started getting curious about how important that initial eye contact is. If maybe there’s an unspoken meaning to how we lock eyes with someone and communicate through minute actions. Maybe she was able to tell I liked her by the way I broke eye contact so quickly and looked straight down into my paper, instead of casually gazing to the other students.

So I ask here, did you ever make eye contact with someone and just KNOW you had it in the bag? Did anyone else speak about that initial eye contact with that person, who also confirmed that they too felt the same? Can we learn how to find invitation from that eye contact? If anyone’s already clued up to this, do you feel like your success rate skews better to people you’ve had that “immediate connection” with? I know it sound silly, like of course you have to make eye contact with that person, but you know what I mean. L
