Despite my social anxiety, I feel this one is pretty easy to do, you don't even have to look at anybody, look straight ahead to your objective, walk straight. You can have hands in pockets, make sure you keep your head up.

Great analysis! Also huge are eye contact and smiling! This just started happening to me on campus, I'll make eye contact and smile and girls will just blurt out 'Hi, how are you?' To which I reply 'Good thanks'.

It never happened before I corrected my posture, eye contact and smile. =) it's the little things that show you have self assurance.

Holy shit posture. If there was one "What can I do NOW?" thing, this would be it.

My posture is not great, but it's much better than it's ever been.

I had a major operation on my heart when I was 10. My ribs were cut open, and as a result, I slept using raised pillows for almost 3 months. Afterward, I used multiple pillows to sleep.

Couple that with the fact that I was a growing boy put out of active commission not really using my back muscles, and I spent the next decade of my life hunched over.

Oh, and my man-boobs. If you're hunched over, your shirt will cover your man boobs.

With the black hole of confidence that formed as I walked around like Quasimodo, it was no surprise that I was only moderately successful with women (For some reason I was able to have a girlfriend at 16 who slept with me, and another at 17 who liked to break up with me and then ask me to get back together over and over again).

Some things that have helped me, and should help others:

If you're overweight, you gotta not be overweight. A gut will pull your upper body forward, and you'll walk around hunched.
Back muscles. If you can't do a chin up, start at least trying. Rather than hanging, straining your arm and back muscles, go ahead and let one of your legs rest on a chair. Over time, you should move the chair further out from under you until you don't need it.
Be conscious about it. I don't know if there are any tricks to remembering to stand up straight, but lower your shoulders, put your head up, and look forward (and stop looking at the ground).

Nothing lights up a room better than when a dude who's confident, smiling, and standing up straight enters it.

I watched a TED talk the other day about how posture plays a role in how you perceive yourself and act, too. If you walk around slouched and small, you FEEL small and helpless. If you walk around like a big shot, you start to feel kinda like a big shot. Try it out. It works.

I kinda found out the opposite way. I never really had good posture and physical body language but as I started to have success in life my posture slowly started to mimic that. Now I think that I'm the shit and my posture let's everybody know exactly how I feel.

One thing that I've really noticed now that I work out consistently is my improved posture. When I'm out and about by myself my posture is good.

I think more people should incorporate squats and deadlifts into their routine, they are amazing at working your whole body.

Standing up straight not only makes you feel better about yourself, it makes people perceive you as more dominant. win-fucking-win.

Why more people don't seem to understand/apply this basic idea is beyond me.

Use other peoples poor posture as a reminder to keep your own. You will also prevent lots of back pain in the future.
