Now this goes homophobia is bad, no matter if it is only hatred towards male gays, female lesbians or both. With this in mind however, there are many statistics and historical facts that point towards gay men being disproportionately affected by homophobia. Nevertheless this is an angle to homophobia that I haven't really seen or heard talked about by anyone.

Most people, even LGBT activists often present the problem as affecting men and women equally, or never explore the fact that it could affect men more. In some cases, sometimes the focus is placed in women rather than gay men. As an example, videos like this claims that SHE is a criminal in 72 countries because she is a lesbian. While this being against homophobia of any kind is good, that video would be inaccurate. There are 71 jurisdiction with laws against homosexuality. However, there are "only" 43 countries that criminalize homosexual women. While she is better off not going to the other 28 countries you can see the difference here.

Public opinion is also incredibly important, According to NBC news, a study conducted in 23 countries found that gay men are more disliked in every single country tested. Society is also more accepting towards gay women raising children than they are of gay men raising children according to a 2013 article by mpr news. Gay men are also more likely to be victims of Anti-LGBT hate crimes according to an article by USA today.

Even historically, homosexual men were discriminated against more than women were. For example, In England and Wales, male homosexuality was illegal up until 1967. Before this, homosexual males were convicted of being homosexual, with many being forced to be chemically castrated. For example, Alan Turing, a WW2 code breaker and hero was convicted of being a homosexual. He was given a choice between imprisonment and probation, with the agreement that he would undergo hormones treatment. He ultimately committed suicide due to this. Being charged of this law wasn't unique. According to a British MP, approximately 65,000 men had been convicted under that laws. In these victims, 15,000 were still alive. Legal restrictions against lesbians never existed in England. England wasn't alone in discriminatory laws. Nazi Germany, a rather extreme example but I digress, forced homosexual men to wear pink triangles. Just like Jewish people, they were then sent to death camps. No official laws against lesbians were made by Nazi Germany, and while they didn't have it good either, I would say they had it significantly better.

So with all these mounting evidence, is homophobia a mens rights issue? And if it is, why is no one talking about it?
