This part was quite fun to read:

But the economics of dating is a delicate balance, Scott noted. Case in point: Last week, Scott was having lunch at Morton’s in Midtown with a woman he’s been casually dating for about a year. He paid the check, as usual, but on the walk home they passed a hotel, and she impulsively asked him to book a room. “It was a sexy idea, but we both had places to be,” he told me. “And everyone knows a hotel in Manhattan is at least $300 a night, for a shoe-box room. So I asked her to go halves—I mean, it was her idea, after all—and she goes, ‘Ya know, that’s really your one vice—you’re very cheap.’ Meanwhile, I’d just spent $200 on lunch!” He rolled his eyes. “Herein lies the dilemma of the modern man: If you never let the woman pay, she thinks you’re sexist. But if you ask her to pay, she becomes hostile.”

[–]Mode1961 38 points39 points40 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Or how about you have two people making the same amount of money at a company (both mid level managers from different departments) and are dating and when the man asks the women to split the bill she proclaims quite loudly to him that "I will when the gender pay gap is gone", even though she makes the same amount of money as him.

Wouldn't it be funny if a man were to ever say in court or in public for that matter. "I am sorry but I shouldn't be paying alimony because men already pay 95% of alimony and men from now on shouldn't be paying under any circumstance until men and women are paying the same".

[–]5th_Law_of_Robotics 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"Honey I heard something downstairs, go check".

-I will when the workplace fatality gap is closed. And on that note until 50% of garbage collectors are women you're taking out the trash.

[–]The__Tren__Train 22 points23 points24 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

LOL MGTOW

notice how she completely forgot that he just picked up lunch tab for $200? with a woman, it's 'what are you doing for me right now?'

Every generous thing you have done in the past is completely disregarded. on the flip side, anything in the past that can be hamstered into being remotely negative is magnified 10 fold.

[–]Blutarg 14 points15 points16 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Dump her.

[–]bortalizer93[S] 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

But the economics of dating is a delicate balance

there shouldn't be any fucking economics on dating. put money on it and it's more or less prostitution.

the fact that this woman write as a sex columnist in vogue makes me really really worried about having any form of relationship with any woman who reads vogue.

[–]p3ngwin 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

that's a gold digging whore.

If you can't figure that out after dating her for a year, you're dumb.

[–]AmbitiousPlankton 19 points20 points21 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She's so dense she doesn't realize she's actually happy when she conforms to what she admittedly really wants, which is a male lead.

People want different things but holy shit lady if I was able to enjoy myself like you did I sure as hell wouldn't resist it.

[–]gmanex 19 points20 points21 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She misspelled "I'm a hypocrite"

[–][deleted] 54 points55 points56 points 8 years ago (27 children) | Copy Link

That is professional writing these days? Smh

[–]NecroHexr 26 points27 points28 points 8 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

You'd be surprised.

I'm giving up pursuing writing as a profession because I see bullshit all the time and I think, meh I don't want to be in that position.

Writing some asinine shit to make a living, I mean.

[–]bortalizer93[S] 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

i've come to this point that it's not about gender anymore, but to strive in a stupid society you need to be just as stupid.

[–]Ali_s1987 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

People like Jordan Peterson being popular kind of refutes that. He wouldnt be famous if society was that stupid.

[–]stonewall1979 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

The question is, have the idiots of the world put him on a soap box, or in a zoo cage? Are they fascinated by him because they appreciate what he says and relate? Or just saying "look at that monkey pretending to be smart, put him in the glass box so we can see what he does next"?

[–]Ali_s1987 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

There will always be the kardashian/jersey shore crowd(those are the only shows that I know of that are dumb). However, reading the comments on most of his videos, the comments from most people on reddit about him, I think it is refreshing for most people. Everywhere in the world, capitalism and imperialism and feminism and greedy dick sucking politicians and corrupt multi million dollar companies are tiring for people now. We all know that almost all news outlets are utter garbage. We know most big corporations will happily watch you bleed out slowly if they could earn a cent from it.

The problem isnt that people are stupid. The problem is that we are getting horse shit like this dumb ass article being shoved down our throats. And websites like this are useless. They barely make any money to survive. But people like peterson become popular. One of the most viewed podcasts is the Joe Rogan podcast. People listen to it cuz most of his guests are intelligent people. Sure there is the mindless UFC banter, but the popularity of these shows, that is a clear sign that people are smart. We just have no power. We have no voice.

[–]NecroHexr 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That may well be true, but people still eat up terrible pieces of media.

Like terrible movies. Or subpar TV shows. And they continue to have diminishing attention span.

[–]NecroHexr 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Regardless, he's laughing to the bank

[–]bortalizer93[S] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There is a light that never goes out

but seriously, i think mainstream media hated his guts. vox made a writeup about him once and it guts and murder every single bit of his character.

[–]issan1mountain 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Try philosophy: you will get to write a lot.

[–]NecroHexr 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm writing bullshit philosophy on Reddit every day already :)

[–]Ultramegasaurus 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Inane, petty, hypocritical and downright misandrist crap written by women is given media space everywhere. Biggest offender are those dreadful "where have all the good men gone" articles.

[–]w1g2 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

When your readership is predominantly female all that is required is that you please them.

[–]bortalizer93[S] 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

try having fashion as your only passion as a male, then. i got rejected multiple times from interning in a fashion company simply because i'm a straight male, lmao.

Its the opinion section?

[–]bortalizer93[S] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

the editorial team still should at least have some kind of control on what gets published and what not. just because it's an opinion section doesn't mean the quality of the article could be damned.

...or does it? idk man, world's gone mad lmao

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Participation trophy culture produces this level of "art"... except that "art" is now spelled h-a-c-k. The value of good writing will be lost as fewer people are educated as readers to tell the difference.

[–]bortalizer93[S] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

thank god i still refer to viktor shklovsky's essay on art as a method to define art...

and none of those post-dadaism bullshit.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I've read that the proper use of the language is being characterized as elitism- that brandishing one's writing skill gets construed as a micro-aggression against those whose grasp of language is inferior.

[–]Blu3Skies 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I'm not sure if this is sarcasm or not but I desperately hope it is lol

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I wish I were being sarcastic but real life has become self parodying...

[–]Blu3Skies 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I might have a slight case of cancer after reading those. The stupidity is astounding. Clearly the author isn't very informed or intelligent since they only discovered a dictionary/thesaurus while in college.

[–]Sasha_ 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Never heard of that, but frankly I don't think you can beat George Orwell's six rules and his book on politics and the English language.

[–]mwobuddy 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Have you heard of yellow journalism? You think people weren't writing like this 150 years ago?

[–]bortalizer93[S] 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

back then it was "yellow page journalism" but today it's just "journalism"

see the difference there?

Whoopsy doodle.

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points13 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The article seems to be only half serious, so I'm not sure it's worth getting mad about. It does pretty much reinforce the theme of masculinity=evil when in the context of workplace and resource competition... masculinity=good when its a top %5 male you deem fuckable.

[–]Asita3416 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

or spanking me when I get too drunk.

Isn't that sexual assault?

[–]mwobuddy 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yep.

After all, if you spank someone playfully, and they pull away, even though they laugh it off or smile about it, its still sexual assault, or at the very least, physical assault, because you touched someone in a way they clearly didn't consent to.

That's the #metoo argument.

[–]bortalizer93[S] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

not if you're christian grey, apparently, according to her, who is a feminist.

She comes off as such a stuck up bitch, she wants it her way and fuck everyone else.

[–]revenueperadventure 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I read about half the article. I don’t even know where to begin. I’ll just go with the low hanging fruit of “I don’t think she understands what ‘fascist’ means”.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That makes you at best a hypocrite and at worst a whore.

[–]Arby01 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She literally writes that she wants to pay her share by letting him "fuck her in the ass". I don't think it's "at worst a whore", I think it's very clearly, simply, "a whore".

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

My GF describes herself as a feminist and she pays her share all the time. She actually believes in equality - which makes her a rare feminist

[–]WiseMonkeyGoodMonkey 8 points9 points10 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Arguably that makes her an egalitarian because that's not what feminist seems to mean anymore.

[–]HappyHurtzlickn 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Merry her! Haha

[–]Bluefish178 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Marry* not trying to be a jerk, but marry is what a couple does, merry is like eat, drink and be merry.

[–]HappyHurtzlickn 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Ah yes, the annoying guy in every group that start sentences with “snort, fixes glasses Well actually...”

[–]Bluefish178 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

lmao. that made me laugh. just wanted to point that out for ya.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

and she pays her share all the time

Congrats?

[–]v574v 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Equality means she pays your share or feels negative emotions over it.

[–]bortalizer93[S] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She actually believes in equality - which means she's not a feminist

ftfy

[–]hatefulreason 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

this article is golden. someone please archive it and if God forbid, i become less of an asshole than i am now, print it 1000 times, put it in a bag and beat me with it

btw she loves it when she's not in control because responsibility is not her thing...wonder why...

also, "letting him do me in the ass" is something they say to beta males after their 1000th dinner if they are old women who can't get with a young thug

[–]bad_news_everybody 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

This guy has no chick handling skills. He buys a $200 lunch for a woman who acts like that?? And talks to him like that? That’s just dumb.

It’s absolutely his fault. They’ve been fucking for a year yet he hasn’t made it clear that she won’t be getting any of his time, attention, validation, or $200 lunches, if she behaves like that. Instead he keeps dating her. That’s his fault.

She's one of those women who think being extremely crude and vulgar about her sexual excesses is empowering, and makes her a strong woman.

It just makes her sleazy, same as a man who does the same. Nobody wants to hear this shit... From anyone.

“Money is part of the sexual dynamic,” said Scott, fiddling with the button on his sports coat. “Paying for a date is absolutely a form of erotic pleasure, especially if you have even the slightest dominant tendencies.... "

This is the garbage that women are told as absolutes and that young girls brought up on? No wonder the world's fucked. How fucking pathetic this guy is.

"I'm struggling with the cognitive dissonance of using insincere and superficial arguments and principles I don't actually believe in to bully men into giving me what I want and then later having to argue the opposite, and am trying to rationalize a way for this to make sense so I can avoid even a modicum of self-awareness about how much of a repulsive and self-centered human being I am thanks to feminism, which has made me somebody with no principles or ethical thoughts, someone solely concerned with what benefits me in each situation, and sold this sociopathy to me as justice."

[–]revenueperadventure 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think what this woman is failing to understand is that dating and love were never meant to be transactional. Splitting a check 50/50 as a demonstration of equality is asinine. Taking someone you are dating out to a meal should be an act of kindness or a gift of love.

This author views dating as transactional, meaning it is about - he blows money, I allow him to engage in sexual activity with me - fair trade. True equality in the dating scene would suggest that both parties communicate love and affection by acts of service (non-sexual), quality time, gifts, etc., without it being a transactional or a 50/50 exchange. However, to the feminist, an act of love is too easily construed as participating in traditional gender roles, and thus worthy of the title of "honorary fascist".

Enjoy your human relationships based on splitting the check 50/50, let me know how that turned out for you when you're looking back on the days of your youth from your life's twilight.

[–]Lethn 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I can’t help getting wet whenever a willowy, beaked artiste pulls out his wallet and says, “Babe, I got this one.” Now, I’m not saying that I’m looking for a sugar daddy to bankroll my leisurely life of masturbation and blogging. But I want to know: Can I be a self-sufficient, #empowered woman and still enjoy it when a guy plays “the man”?

'Babe', that's exactly what you're wanting, except the difference between you as a feminist and a woman who's willing to be a gold digger for that man is that you know that it's a transaction and an unspoken contract where you give sex in return for whatever he gives you.

It's fascinating, deep down I think she knows, yes, she has nothing to do in her life beyond masturbating and blogging by her own if sarcastic admission to try and make herself sound edgy but like most feminists she puts on an act of being an amazing independent woman but she clearly either wants a relationship with a man even if it may be extremely parasitic in nature even by most peoples' standards. Thanks to feminism though, she doesn't know what to do with herself and what she really wants because she's grown up with this ideology telling her what she wants all her life.

Should we be perhaps grateful that even women who would be blatantly considered gold diggers have been so brainwashed by feminism they're paralysed as to whether it's right or not to con them by flirting with them for expensive meals?

Just a shame that otherwise normal women have been taken in by this bullshit cult as well.

You guys seem to really overreact to an opinion piece that isnt saying anything other than this girl proving why she feels she can be independent and still have a "daddy" every now and then

Do you not want the same thing? I love to not have to be the "a real man" and be the sole provider and get fucked over while working my ass off BUT that doesnt mean there arent plenty of times i DO want to be "a real man" because its cool, it makes me feel good. You dont like it? Cool then dont do it but it seems insanely ridiculous to drag her through the mud like this

Shes talking about like every now and then not having both ways the same time all the time

Honestly you guys are searching to be offended with this one. We're better than this

[–]bortalizer93[S] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

yes, i too would like it if i don't get to be an employee every now and then (usually every weekday) and be an employee every now and then (usually on the payday).

not having both ways the same time all the time, you know?

see how retarded is that?

Calm down sport

Its like, hey i can help pay with utilities and rent and literally everything because im an independent woman BUT (watch out this is where you get confused) wouldnt it be nice to have my man take me out and just spoil me every now and then

That's literally all shes saying

she literally have sex with multiple guys to pay her rent.

but she's not a prostitute, mind you! no, she's a sex columnist.

I accidentally found nudes just trying to find out more about her.

[–]Vapodaca17 -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Has nothing to do with this article

[–]lethrowaway4me 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It further illustrates her view on sex, relationships, and men in general as nothing but an easy means of padding her lifestyle with the commodification of her affections. Sounds like a prostitute to me.

It's also a smug embracing of the double standard, which if it meant she was on the short end of it, her article would be about how her feminism demands change.

I don't see why everyone is so upset by this. People can and should do whatever they want to enhance their personal lives.

It's possible to be against rape and enjoy rape fantasies.

It's possible to be against domestic abuse and enjoy spanking or slapping or whipping.

It's possible to be against traditional gender norms and enjoy some exception.

As long as all parties are consenting, what's your problem?

call me back when i can pay my bills with my fantasy money

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

What does that even mean? All hobbies cost money.

[–]bortalizer93[S] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

but getting fucked in the ass will always be free.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

What?!?

I have no idea what you're talking about. What are you even arguing? What is your point?

All I said was that people are free to do whatever they want. If this woman becomes sexually aroused at the idea of a man paying for her bills, then she's free to find a man who also gets off on paying for her bills, and they'll be happy together. There's nothing wrong with that.

There is an infinite amount of kinks out there that come in all shapes and sizes. Some men need to slap women in the face in order to reach orgasm. That's fine too, as long as they only do it to consenting adults who also enjoy being slapped in the face. That doesn't mean they advocate for domestic abuse.

like i said, call me back when those twitter findom accept monopoly money.

until then, feel free to reflect on... you know, i can explain the false equivalence of this whole comparison. but fuck it, just go to a hospital, book a neurologist and tell him you're experiencing symptoms advanced brain necrosis.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Ah, yes, the classic deflection: "I could easily win this argument, but I won't even bother, so now I'm going to pretend that I'm right without actually engaging the opposition, and throw in a couple of insults for good measure."

Are you really so afraid of being proven wrong?

[–]bortalizer93[S] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

....fine, since your brain cannot do the job for you, i'll be nice just this once.

this:

It's possible to be against rape and enjoy rape fantasies.

It's possible to be against domestic abuse and enjoy spanking or slapping or whipping.

and this:

It's possible to be against traditional gender norms and enjoy some exception.

are nowhere near the same. it's not apple-to-apple comparison.

why? because the former exists solely in the realm of fantasy. if this living embodiment of dumb-blonde stereotype really do limit this whole financial domination kink into the bedroom, really don't get additional benefit from her sorry-ass partners and her sorry-ass partners don't have to be actually troubled in their everyday life by giving her imaginary money instead of real money, then it's a fair comparison.

but it's not the case. in this case, she's getting the beneficial effect of her kink in her everyday life. her rent, her meal and probably everything else she wore and her career too. it's the whole package, okay? it's not limited to her private sexual life anymore.

therefore, saying that it's okay for a woman to do this is similar to saying that it's okay for the men who enjoys rape fantasy to make it so that her "fantasy rape victim" to actually suffer from anxiety, shame and self-blaming in her day-to-day life. you know, the whole package.

do you agree with this or not? because this is the fair comparison of what you're implying.

geez, how did you guys even manage to achieve global hegemony...

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't understand your comparison. It's not fantasy. BDSM couples do all sorts of things for real.

In a D/s relationship involving impact play, the (usually) man may slap the shit out of a woman, in reality, not fantasy. The slaps aren't imaginary. They are real. This is done consensually and it doesn't advocate domestic abuse.

So, how is this woman's kink any different? Simply because they use real money? You're already aware of the term "findom", so I don't see what your problem is with the whole concept. Lots of people use real money for their kinks.

She is not forcing anyone to pay for her shit against his will, so your rape analogy doesn't work. If you don't like what this woman is doing, simply don't date her. No one is being harmed. Adults are responsible for their own actions.

"You guys"? What guys? Who do you think I am?
