another fitting analogy IMO is when some women say "men just want a mommy-wife to clean up after them" - just like how some women want a daddy-husband to look after them financially.... like c'mon now stop pretending you're exempt from doing wrong.

EVERYONE likes to be needed, nobody enjoys tedious shit. That's not gendered, there's nothing about "biological roles" in that.
There is no such thing as biological roles, beyond who owns the uterus and who owns the semen.
[–]FriendlyNeighburrito -1 points0 points1 point 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]agiganticpanda 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
No - you're applying "nature" to your own personal decisions around relationships.
It's dismissive to literally every other configuration.
[–]FriendlyNeighburrito 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Not really. I mean you even used the word configuration. Im not saying there arent other biologically predisposed configuration for male/female rituals the most common one seems to be man-provider and female nurterer, but there are other species in which it is opposite, but all animals have a sort of biological role.
[–]agiganticpanda 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Men tend to also have the instinct to provide and when that can't happen they have depression (in most cases). So that added pressure isn't needed. I for one love my sister in law because of this. She is always supportive of my brother and did take care of him for the longest time. Only straying from it when she had a concussion and has since then worked to fox her mistakes, which is tiring enough when my brother is autistic(trust issues).
So women, like us, need to stand up for men even if we aren't with them. Even if it isn't our orientation. Because unfortunately most men won't stick up for themselves. I.e. a man not sticking up for oneself, not other men.

I have a feeling that quite a large number of young male suicides are linked to this phenomenon.
[–][deleted] 28 points29 points30 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Honestly, that sounds to me like you need to cut down the time with those two sisters to a minimum. They are not doing anything to help your life be better, and they are not entitled to having time in your life. They are connected to you through your wife, but your wife also has to understand that if you are getting anxiety and depression from her sisters, that's not healthy.
This is something that needs to be talked about.

You are actually wrong. Psychologically men have that instinct to provide and protect since the cavemen era. When men are taught that their life is themselves, the middle east happens.
And no women ARE part of the problem. I dont know if you've noticed but feminist don't listen to men. They listen to other females. Most old feminist who come around say they did because of their eyes being opened and more than not it's a female that did it.
And
In other words, there is a rather large chance that you will still push agenda of female version of "equality" and "compromise", instead of our needs and expectations.
This...is idiotic. You don't fucking know me. My version of equality like many other female MRA is pure equality. Which is mostly what we already have except the additives of
Due process
If I hit you then you get to hit me back.
Equal divorce
Less whining from the female side
And more.
What I got from all of your shit was actually "women need to be seen not heard." Which is a back step. So piss off.
If you have a fucking right to say I shouldn't get abortions(which I am pro life) then I have a fucking right to help men be heard. Which is the whole point of standing up.

if that's profitable and good for men, I see no problem with this :)
That's not equal rights and also that's sexist like fuck.
LOL, more often than not, man puts in WAY more work, money, and assets into the relationship. Why do you think she should get an equal share over only what she earned ?
Correct. What I meant was fair divorce.
Why you should put your opinion out there on how to solve OUR issues? If its MAN's issue, it will be MAN's resolution to the problem. Woman putting in her resolution carries a risk that the resolution will prioritise her, really, in one way or another, over him. Why would you expect us to take any risks? This is entitlement already.
Already answered this and I don't repeat myself for anyone. Especially when you can legit just read it. Also the risk is you not being heard cuz no one will listen. -shrugs-
Now imma block you cuz I got more important things to do then listen to selfishness. I had a good day and I'm going to sleep. So later loser.

As a former therapist, I actually disagree somewhat with what she's saying. I know that's unpopular to say, but hear me out.
By no means are you obligated to support or fix your partner. But everyone is flawed. It's really common on Reddit to see comments along the lines of "your partner should be perfect when you meet them, because you can never reasonably expect them to change". I think this is good advice to an extent, but it is one sided.
As I said, everyone is flawed. Sometimes the best thing you can do is find someone whose flaws you can live with. But I've seen couples work out personal issues more effectively together than they would have on their own. It's actually pretty well documented that men especially excel when they are faced with the potential for starting a family.
Sometimes we need help to become more functional people. No one should be obligated to be partners with a dysfunctional person, but sometimes that's a means for improvement.
On the other hand, sometimes it takes hitting rock bottom and losing a partner to trigger improvement. It's not all one way or the other.
[–]mreader369 12 points13 points14 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]I_dont_want_karma_ 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I'm dealing with this exact situation right now. My relationship ended because there were some issues between us I felt were insurmountable to fix.
3years together there was a constant hope of things improving, it took this covid situation to realize that the issues we were suppressing were not going to go away as neither was motivated enough to put in the personal work to change that aspect of themselves.
It's tough because we don't hate each other, but I struggle to see a future.
[–]EvilBeano 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's because women can't be expected to put out the "emotional labor" of just being a supportive partner. So guys, just shut your yap and be sure to pay attention while she talks about all of the shit that bothers her.

Marriage/relationships should be a rock tumbler! Deciding to love someone as they are is beautiful, but also providing them the stability, intimacy, and honesty of a committed relationship that encourages growth, development, and bettering ones self is the greatest and most challenging gift we can give each other. Smoothing out the rough edges and helping the gem shine!
That said, BOTH partners have to be all-in, all the time. And both people have to come up with an arrangement that works for them both, with equal weight-bearing responsibilities—financially or otherwise. If one person is the bread winner, male or female, the other ponies up their share with tending to other responsibilities. Equal investment, equal effort.

[–]rahsoft 8 points9 points10 points 6 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
depends
on whether they truly abandoned them or were driven away by the mother and the family courts.
heard so many claims of abandonment by father from kids( the so called dead beat dads) and their moms, only to discover their own mothers abandoned all sense of parental responsibilities for their own behaviour.
I'm willing to bet there are far more single moms badly raising their kids than the "dead beat dads"

After searching that twitter handle and ones in posts similar to this, I think it's a fair assumption that African women (the actual continent, not the race) grow up with a mindset of "men owe me the princess life" worse than some western countries.
[–]philhalo66 16 points17 points18 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
really? that's surprising. Would have never guessed that.
[–]iReallyAmASithLord 21 points22 points23 points 6 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link
There is a reason for that and it is largely because many African countries have deeply patriarchal/Male dominated societies. My wife is Nigerian and I've been to Nigeria many times, as well as watched many Nigerian movies. What is made very, very clear is that the average cultural mindset there is: "Your Man is your Lord and you (as a woman) are there to please him, serve him and make babies for him"
My wife has told me many, many stories about how she was raised to be literally nothing more than a housewife and that the greatest validation she could get from her existence was to marry and have kids. Forget having a career, forget providing for yourself, but marry someone who will provide for you. Because religion (both Islam and Christianity) have a deep influence in Nigerian culture, then religious gender stereotypes are actively encouraged.
So yeah, from that perspective, women aren't necessarily to blame for having the mindset you describe because if you're raised to see men as your sole providers then of course, you will want the best because that directly translates to having a good life for yourself.

There’s this girl I knew who had dated this one guy for awhile. He had just graduated from college and started working and she’s currently still in college. The bf only lives like 30 min away but they obviously don’t get to see each other everyday cause he has work and she’s on campus. This girl, on the other hand, never took school seriously so she would always skip classes and smoke weed all day. But basically she started cheating on her bf with her ex like very frequently. Like this boy would be over at her place all the time, and her poor bf didn’t know about anything. My friend, who was her roommate, asked her about it and she basically said “Oh no, this is just for fun. I’m not gonna break up with my boyfriend. He’s gonna be successful with a stable job and life so I’d rather stay with him and have my future taken care of”. Like WHAT?
[–]rahsoft 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

[–]meena1999 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link
My friend who is the girl’s roommate told me about the cheating. So I asked her why she hadn’t told the bf what was up especially since she knew him well. She said she didn’t want to get involved (which I don’t get) but I really hope she did the right thing by telling him or he found out one way or another.
[–]rahsoft 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Interesting that she didn't want to get involved when she could have told him anonymously. Given how the GF was using him and that she could have gotten pregnant, and he would have been on the hook( because someone decided that they didnt want to get involved)

A little caveat I have is that while that shouldn't be the assigned role for men and women, they should still strive to do that for their partner, but this only really stands when both sides are doing what they can to compliment what the other is missing

Amazingly eloquent.
i would add
men are also not rehabilitation centres for badly raised or deliberately self entitled women.
Blaming parents for your bad behaviour is not the answer for every woman or man when you know what you do is wrong..

Can’t find that as a Twitter Handle, can someone help?
This in a more subtle way is still true. Men should take care of their women and women should give emotional support to their men. Redundant but thought I'd point that out so that there isn't any misunderstanding about thinking we should be the same.

I love this take.
I do want to add that you can find a healthy mix. My husband was a wreck when we first met and married and I was the financial provider. We fought but grew stronger, learned off each other and he became the person I saw behind his hurt eyes.
As we grew stronger from each other his career took off while I put my life on hold to help build him up. Now he’s financially taking care of us while I get my career in order by going back to school to get a degree more suited to where we live now. I know we’re the exception not the rule, but wanted to show that it is possible. I was primarily raise by my father so I’m sure that had an impact.

Shut the fuck up. Women don’t even want that you stupid misogynistic bastards. Mother fuckers want women to simultaneously be housewives and the bread winner of the family. You fucking basic ass morally inconsistent troglodytes.

Lazy women? Yeah raising your own kids instead of having babysitters and day care raise them is lazy smh.
This is the same nonsensical feminists who think men and women have to be the same. A man provides for and protects his family. Why is it suddenly a bad thing to be a man?
If you wanna be one of those guys that splits the bill on dates and stuff fine, you do you. But you’re gonna end up with a very specific kind of a girl.

Ok what do you mean split evenly? And why does it have to be split evenly?
I’d expect this sub to be about men helping each other with advice and encouragement. Instead it’s guys tearing down masculine ideas. Most women, or at least the ones you might be interested in dating, aren’t radical twitter feminists with tattoos saying “Equality!”.

You’ve been spending too much time on MGTOW if you view the idea of a man taking care of his family as “one taking advantage of the other.”
A man has a responsibility to his family, and if you don’t want to have responsibility or have people look up to you (AKA being a man) then don’t get married. But this idea of marriage being two business partners “with mutual benefit” is incredibly dumb. Look, this isn’t a popular opinion to have on reddit, but gender roles exist for a reason. Don’t buy into the pathetic feminazi bs telling you otherwise. That’s not to say women shouldn’t be allowed to work or anything, but they shouldn’t have to. A wife shouldn’t be worrying about mortgage payments, or the lights being on, or insurance payments, food in the fridge, because that’s a mans job. I can’t believe so many men are against the idea of being there for your family
Liabilities
lol ok.
[–]Comrade_Dyatlov_ -1 points0 points1 point 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Don’t worry buddy, I’m sure most women wouldn’t be interested either.
If guys in this sub want to keep on living their lives like lonely and pathetic children, by all means. I am curious where this bitterness originated though? Perhaps some guys here were scorned or cheated on?
