The document in the link is a thesis by a student. Let's not be naive to the fact that there are many of these activist types in LE looking into anything manosphere related. Question is... are any of them looking into the feminist groups out there?

A deeply flawed thesis that would have failed academic review, had it not adhered to the dominant leftist narrative of the politicised FBI. Filled with unsupported assumptions and extreme conformation bias, this thesis assumed a priori that the "manosphere" is both nefarious and misogynist. The authors followed the "gender studies" approach of conflating feminism with all women generally, and any criticism of feminism or reporting of anti-male hate speech/activism by feminists as examples of blatant misogyny and violence against women.

While the structural analysis of the Men's Movement has some merit, the stereotyping and whitewashing of all men's groups as "same" , reveals a shallow understanding of masculinity, and an inability to acknowledge men as individuals with agency, and renders the analysis fatally flawed.

MRM arguments and publications utilized pseudo-academic language that mirrored the language of gender studies as a way to gain legitimacy, but they lacked the peer review or acceptance by the larger gender studies academic community to make their claims mainstreamed.

Oh, so we are assuming that the peer review process lends some sort of credibility to academic feminism and gender studies? I would have thought the Grievance Studies Affair would have dissuaded people of that delusion. Oh look, a source... from the Southern Poverty Law Center. That article deserves it's own ripping to shreds, but essentially it argues "MRAs don't actually care about helping men, we know because they haven't accomplished anything that would help men." I guess it never occurred to the SPLC that this could just as easily suggest inability, rather than lack of motivation or intention, because realistically, MRAs don't have any power. It's not like that's our decision.

Okay, so this is interesting. The source leads to a court document. MRAs were suing on behalf of 5 men who were denied help from government funded domestic violence services. Apparently domestic violence was defined as "the infliction or threat of physical harm againstpast or present adult or adolescent female intimate partners, including physical, sexual, and psychological abuse against the woman, and is a part of a pattern of assaultive, coercive, and controlling behaviors directed at achieving compliance from or control over that woman."

The document also states:

"Government Code section 11135, subdivision (a) sets forth a nondiscrimination policy for state programs. It provides: “No person in the State of California shall, on the basis of race, national origin, ethnic group identification, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, color, or disability, be unlawfully denied full and equal access to the benefits of, or be unlawfully subjected to discrimination under, any program or activity that is conducted, operated, or administered by the state or by any state agency, is funded directly by the state, or receives any financial assistance from the state.” Government Code section 11139 provides certain exceptions to the nondiscrimination policy. It reads in part: “This article shall not be interpreted in a manner that would adversely affect lawful programs which benefit the disabled, the aged, minorities, and women.” Plaintiffs challenge this gender classification.

Plaintiffs sought a declaration that the gender classifications were unlawful, reformation of the statutes to gender neutral language, and injunctive relief to stop the illegal funding of services only to women and to provide services to men. "

The NCFM argues this move was attempting to bring equality and health services to male domestic violence victims, which is a legitimate concern. However, rather than utilizing legislation to create opportunities to help male victims (i.e., create men-only victim spaces), the NCFM instead chose a more punitive approach that targeted spaces that protect women victims.

Yeah, Earl Silverman tried that. Look how well that turned out. This just reads as "why do you MRAs make this so difficult, if you just asked for funding for a male only DV shelter you'd totally get it." Is anyone buying that?

Another common tactic utilized by the MRM is to mask extreme, controversial, or

even violence content as satire. A Voice for Men is a for-profit organization started in 2009

and led by Paul Elam, famous for his extreme anti-woman and violent language cloaked as satire. While he claims his call to designate October—currently Domestic Violence

Awareness month—“Bash a Violent Bitch Month” is just humor

Of course they'd bring up that article, they always bring up that article, and they just dismiss his argument that it was satire as if it was absurd. What they completely leave out is the Jezebel article that Paul Elam's article was a response to.

These conferences adopt a professional appearance with well-produced advertisements and charismatic speakers who often have popular social media platforms and books for sale.

Look at these MRAs, manipulating everyone with their entirely fake professionalism.

This is an individual student’s masters thesis, not an investigation by the FBI or any other government entity. It looks like she is making an argument that the “manosphere” should be observed in a more official capacity by a homeland security entity because previous mass shooters have claimed to ascribe to related ideologies.

It doesn’t seem like, according to this document, there are any official investigations into the “manosphere” as a whole right now; there have only been investigations of individual crimes committed by people who claim to be part of the “manosphere”.

Abstract

The manosphere network is a dispersed collection of online spaces that proliferate
an anti-feminist ideology that in some cases has been associated with violence. This
thesis aims to observe the manosphere network structure as it exists on Reddit by using a mixed method research design of digital ethnography and social network analysis (SNA).

This research identified a unifying anti-feminist framework and found that informal
social divisions within the network faded over time, which indicates that both moderate and extreme manosphere subgroups are now sharing common online spaces. It also found that platform algorithms helped with network resilience by acting as gatekeepers of information that suggested related content and shielded unrelated content to users that helped to grow the network in size and interconnectivity.

If people don't like it, then perhaps we shouldn't be tolerating it in our community.

Of note, there wasn't that much talked about for /r/MensRights specifically. But we are definitely connected by user overlap with other, more extreme communities. It isn't a good thing.
