Saw an interesting post on TRP, thought I'd share and get some opinions. It seems to be good discussion grounds. Men, even TRP men, love women very much. It's not that long so no one has an excuse to not read it.

I'll agree that men have an instinct to love and protect women. Well, a woman. We, both men and women, are hardwired to find love and, well, love. Part of love is being protective and caring of the other person. I don't think the kind of love men feel and women feel are all that different between the two sexes, but there are certainly different expectations for the two. Probably from some unknowable combination of nature and nurture. Here is where I find things interesting.

Once, our healthy instinct to protect was once in harmony with women's healthy instinct to respect men and obey male leadership. Why do you think feminists have to froth at the mouth so much about not being led or dominated by a man, ever? Because they are secretly tempted just like any sane woman, that's why.

We all start out as kids. And kids follow. They have to, that's how we grow. We listen and obey to our parents and guardians. Then as we age we make the transition from this kids, programmed to follow authority, to a thinking, independent adult. I recall my teen years, desperately wanting guidance and someone to tell me what to do and when. When I went to college I made it a point to kill that part of me. I made myself become independent and take responsibility for my own life. Now, I simply cannot allow myself to be guided like before. Even if I am following a leader, I am constantly watching them and questioning their actions. Maybe some women can get away with not making this change, but I don't think it is a gendered thing, or biologically ingrained. I'm certainly not tempted to be led or dominated by a man.

The kind of love we need now is what used to be called "tough love"; not the love of a parent for a healthy, happy, well-adjusted child, but the love of a parent for the child whose heroin addiction is destroying the family.

naturally, because I don't think there is a problem, I don't think tough love is needed. I'd be curious to see what people who agree with thought think. What kind of tough love? How will you administer it? What would the end goal be? Do you think men have a protective instinct towards women? Do you think that all sane women have the need to be dominated and led by a man? I thought it was a good post to discuss.
