When TRP says that a man's SMV peaks in his 30s they're talking about men who stay in shape, work on their career, and learn how to talk to women. When TBP criticizes this idea they think of social robots in dead-end jobs with beer guts. Obviously TRP is not claiming that guys who pissed away a decade of their lives will peak in their 30s. When TBP trots this idea out it's nothing more than willful misunderstanding.
[–]DrunkGirl69Manic Pixie Drunk Girl6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (45 children) | Copy Link
No, we are thinking about how hot most guys managed to be in their 20s.
I feel like you're talking to someone who's always been overweight, telling them that if they start now, they can be the most attractive they've ever been. That doesn't change the fact that if they had changed their lifestyle earlier, they could have been their most attractive then.
I think the fact remains that your POTENTIAL peak attractiveness is in your early 20s. You'll never be as hot in your 30s as you could have been in your twenties.
[–]nomdplumeFormer Alpha6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You are assuming that physical looks is the sole attractor for women. I don't think that's true, not by a long shot.
How a guy carries himself, interacts with others (especially women), follows his passions, etc, are all more important than looks.
I don't think any of the Hall of Fame "players" are particularly physically attractive, but they definitely know their way into a woman's heart (and panties).
[–]joseremarqueLSD+MDMA8 points9 points10 points 10 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Attractiveness for men is not just about looks. Confidence, charisma, status, charm, and other personal traits improve only with time and practice. Have you ever tried to have a deep conversation with a teenager?
[–]DrunkGirl69Manic Pixie Drunk Girl5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
I find that teenagers can be wonderfully open-minded. What does that have to do with anything? And everything you listed affects women's attractiveness too except status.
[–]joseremarqueLSD+MDMA2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Eh. I'm 35. Teenager are pretty much children to me. Toddlers are wonderfully open-minded too, but I couldn't sustain an adult conversation with one over a period of time.
Women's physical appearance is a much bigger part of her attractiveness and peaks much earlier. So a woman's physical peak might be in her early 20's but her attractiveness might peak in her late 20's as she becomes more worldly, educated, mature etc. Same concept as for men but on a more compressed time scale.
[–]Meetchel2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Fellow 35 year old here- I struggle to have meaningful conversations with girls in their early 20s as well to the point that no physical attraction is enough.

Realizing that guys on /r/TheRedPill, where they come up with this stuff, are in a much younger demographic. To them a 20 year old IS world, classy, and interesting to talk to so they skew their preference younger.

And women hit their potential peak at 18. However, most humans rarely hit their peak potential. I've met many a girl at 26 that looks better than she did at 18 because she started giving a shit. I get more attention and compliments at 30 because at 26 I started taking care of myself.
Potential is nice, but it's meaningless if it's not acted upon. I'd rather date the 28 year old that takes care of herself and is giving it her all at that point in time than the 18 year old who might have higher potential but is a hot mess.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
And women hit their potential peak at 18.
At 18 most women's bodies still aren't finished developing. Me and a lot of other women I know still looked more like children at 18 and at 21 they have much more feminine facial structure. Neither men nor women start ageing the moment they hit 18. In hunter-gatherer societies, the average age of first pregnancy for women is 19,5.
[–]AryaBarzanProud Fat/Slut Shamer5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (30 children) | Copy Link
Untrue. It takes men many years to build their bodies, unlike women. All women have to do to "look good", is slow the amount of times the fork enters their mouth and hit the treadmill a couple times a week. And most Western women are too pathetic to even do that. It's one of the main reasons I'm 100% of fat-shaming (along with slut-shaming, as my flair indicates) women.
This quote from you certainly shows you only have the capacity to think as a woman:
This is female-logic because you're pretending that what applies to women, also applies to men and fail to see the vast differences between men and women. As the saying goes, men age like wine, women age like milk.

The links taebow provided shows that men physically peak in their 20s.
[–]AryaBarzanProud Fat/Slut Shamer2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Variables, my dear.
I already gave you a list of them in my last post. A single link doesn't suddenly change that.
[–]Gittr1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
Well, sort of. I believe that women can also age like wine if they take care of themselves. I agree that it does take men more time to build their bodies.
I think the big difference is that a woman's SMV will always, for the most part, be on physical looks. Whereas a man's SMV is a complex combination of looks, social status, power, personality, wealth, etc.
Men have a wider range of attributes to work with. Also for some women their physical looks take a nosedive after they give birth. They gain weight and they can never put it off.
[–]AryaBarzanProud Fat/Slut Shamer0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
You proved my point and proved yourself wrong. Women don't "age like wine" since the attraction men have for them is their youthfulness and their looks. Men age like wine because the traits that women like in men go up as they age. Plus women generally like older dudes.
They gain weight and they can never put it off.
Who told you that? Some HAES representative? Plenty of women "put it off" with a little hard-work. Stop listening to the fatties and their excuses.

Women don't "age like wine" since the attraction men have for them is their youthfulness and their looks.
...They can, and some of them do. Some women work out, use various anti-aging products, get cosmetic work done, etc. Older women can mimick a younger woman's beauty. Its not set in stone.
Who told you that? Some HAES representative?
My mother. Its commonly known that some women just gain a ton of weight and never seem to be sble to get it off for one way or another after childbirth.
Not everything revolves around your view of the world. The world is more complicated than "she can work it off." Sorry.

Read my post again and brush up on your reading comprehension. The traits men find attractive in women don't last long (youthfulness, good skin, thin bodies, low partner count, etc) . The traits women find attractive in men age well (wealthy/money, social status, confidence, etc)
Your mother is just fat and making excuses for it. My mother (and multitudes of others) are not despite having multiple kids. Evidence.
The world is more complicated than "she can work it off." Sorry.
So you're denying medical science because mommy told you otherwise?

Cool. And? You've done little to nothing to refute my rebuttal. I have not denied the things men and women find attractive. Re-read. I think the person that needs to brush up on their comprehension here is you.
I'll spell it out for you: There are ways women can stall aging and outright fool men. People age at different rates. Genetics. There are so many variables. Thus, they can "age like wine" if they take care of themselves. Ask anyone in the fitness industry.
I think the person who needs to work on their reading comprehension is you. Clearly.
Wrong. Evidence: Propartum Thyroiditis
No, re-read what I wrote. I am not denying medical science. Reading comprehension, please!
You are ignoring other factors, like fitness, health, lifestyle choices etc. You are treating this as if we take out all other variables, and just treat it through pure aging.
It's nonsense and in fact its scientifically fallacious. Its proven that people age at different rates.
So, it looks like you're the one denying medical science. Talk about projection. Fail fail fail.
[–]AryaBarzan 1 points1 points1 points 10 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
Alright tardo, listen up. A 40 year old woman (no matter her bullshit "genetics" or makeup) will EVER look like a 20 year old. END OF STORY. No man that is non-retarded is "fooled" by a 40 year old woman. I am in the fitness industry and been lifting for a decade. Shut your mouth about things you don't understand.
So your mom has an incredibly uncommon condition that affects a tiny minority of women? As stated in your own link. Or is your mother another fatty making up "condishuns" for her fatness?
No, re-read what I wrote. I am not denying medical science.
Yes, you are. You're pretending that "living a healthy lifestyle" somehow transforms a woman from a 40 year old to a 20 year old. No, doesn't work that way bucko. It certainly helps, but it doesn't "fool" anybody.
Its proven that people age at different rates.
That doesn't prove anything, you dolt. A 35 year old that looks 40 and a 40 year old that looks 35 doesn't change much. Once again, a young woman (18-22) will never look like a 40 year old and vice versa. A few years isn't going to change anything.
So, it looks like you're the one denying medical science.
Nope. Just a pussy-boy like you butthurt that I called your mom fat.

A 40 year old woman (no matter her bullshit "genetics" or makeup) will EVER look like a 20 year old. END OF STORY.
I never said that. I simply said that women can slow and minimize the effects of aging through living a healthy lifestyle. Reading comprehension, remember? Thats what "aging like wine" means. It means people can slow the effects of aging, or minimize it to look good.
You seem so angry. Probably because you're arguing a wrong point. And you're making yourself look like a fool in the process.
I am in the fitness industry and been lifting for a decade. Shut your mouth about things you don't understand.
And I have several relatives that work in the fitness industry and they all agree with me. You sound like a fraud and if you are teaching and training people, you should stop it immediately because you're ripping people off. Talk to any of the women in the industry.
You clearly know nothing of fitness if you disagree with this. Nothing. You're a fucking embarrassment.
Or do you work at a desk?
Yes, you are. You're pretending that "living a healthy lifestyle" somehow transforms a woman from a 40 year old to a 20 year old.
No, I simply stated that women can slow the effects of aging and fool men through fitness, supplements and care products. That is all. Why are you in such a hissyfit?
A 35 year old that looks 40 and a 40 year old that looks 35 doesn't change much.
No amount of mental gymnastics disproves the fact that medical science agrees with me - that people age at different rates, and this is a complicated issue. It also agrees with me that people can slow the effects of aging.
It just proves you're wrong about pretty much everything, as is the TRP theory on when men and women "peak." It's a bunch of nonsense and fantasy. The world is more complex than just a spreadsheet and numbers.
So your mom has an incredibly uncommon condition that affects a tiny minority of women?
It is one of the many factors that can happen after a woman has children that can affect weight gain. Some women just can't get it off, or have major trouble doing so. Your broad generalizations once again show your ignorance of fitness and is embarrassing to say the least.
You've descended into ad-hominem because you have nothing to stand on. You're a fraud and you should quit your profession, what a fucking disgrace. This post is embarrassing and cringeworthy. If you were a man worth his salt you would just admit you're wrong and move on. Instead we see this immature tantrum. Sad.

It takes YEARS to build a good men's body through lifting, so many men have better bodies in their 30's
Twelve weeks
Twelve months max if you take it slower. Though I'm not sure how you could go slower than four hours tops a week.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2258461/Six-pack-secrets-Mens-Fitnesss-Joe-Warner-reveals-man-build-body-wanted-TWELVE-weeks.html
Women tend to like older men, while men tend to like younger women. This rings true in both casual sex and marriage. (Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp are both in their 50's)
Most women are looking at much younger guys than those two now. Most women are the most attracted to younger guys but prefer men close to their own age for LTRs.
Grey hairs aren't looked upon badly in men. In many cases, women prefer it.
Only on older guys. And only in preference to men dying their hair or having none at all.
Men provide stability/security and are better suited for it in their 30's
Men only provide these things if they are stable people with a good income. Women can provide the same.
Men generally have higher status in their 30's
True, though they ate not as sexually attractive and sexy as they were in their twenties. Same for women.
As the saying goes, men age like wine, women age like milk.
Desperate men keep repeating this. Doesn't make it any more true. You really think all those balding beer-bellied graying men are wine?
I can make up some too:
Men age like swine. Women age like silk.
Men age and whine. Women age and chill.

I didn't read the entirety of the link, but as someone who was really heavy into fitness and was part of a group of "fitness nuts" for many years, there is just no way that is at all indicative of the the average experience. Especially the "eat moderately" part. I don't know a single guy who can get below 12% BF (and I would say the guy in the photo was around 9%) without having a strict diet, and no guy can add 20 pounds of muscle in 12 weeks without increasing his protein intake dramatically.

I was 71 years of age when we started. He said, “You are going on a long journey, and you are going to have to follow everything I tell you to do. Do you think you can do it?” I shook my head and said yes. In a matter of seven months, he had me ready to be on the stage. We haven’t looked back since then.
Young men in their 20s (which is what this is about) - with their energy and ability to build muscle (things old women don't generally have) can do it so much faster.

So, a minority of men, then. At least where I live, most men and women in their 30s definitely let themselves go. And it's not like all men are rapidly advancing the career ladder at that age either, plenty of men just stay in the same job because they're not wildly ambitious, or don't have a good job to begin with. I would find that interesting too if that's how TRP actually viewed average men. But that's not how TRP views average men; it views average men much like you do. TRP advice is that if you start improving yourself in your 20s you can be financially and physically healthy in your 30s. Nowhere does TRP say that this is the norm.

It may be the case for guys who go to TRP, who are socially awkward and out of shape; it's like saying to a fat person, if you work hard now, you will be more attractive in the future.
However, they will not ever experience anything like socially outgoing, attractive guys who fucked around at university, they will never have that.
[–]ProtoPillRed Before Red7 points8 points9 points 10 years ago (57 children) | Copy Link
Now that women are looking to settle down, a lot of the traits average guys bring to the table, steady job, loyal, courteous etc. make them more valued.
RDS, these are RMV traits, not SMV traits. TRPers often confuse the two. Sexual Market Value traits relate solely to your attractiveness to a woman regarding sex, and neither your pocketbook nor your STEMLord degree do it for her.
That being said, I believe TRP is right that the male apex is somewhere in the 30s. I remember when I was in my early 20s, fresh out of high school and in the fraternity culture. Neoteny was abound. I see it on the 20-somethings today; the neoteny is obvious and, frankly, unattractive to most women outside of their peer group. Once men reach their 30s, a lot of the neoteny fades, and they begin to look like men. Plus, of all the guys I know, they are at their best shape in their 30s. Hell, I am twice as strong and fast as I was in my twenties. I eat cleaner, I lift heavier, and I run harder than I ever did when I was in college.

caring about reaching your potential doesn't make you able to turn back the physiological clock much. the more below average you used to be, the more you can improve relative to yourself, but you are not going to peak over 20 year old men in strength in speed or the hypothetical 20 yr old version of yourself that was doing things correctly then.

Most professional athletes are retired by their early 30s so I think it is a little bit silly to try and argue that men peak physically after 30.
[–]nomdplumeFormer Alpha0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I still think this misses the point.
If you are trying to be a professional athlete, then you done fucked up if you hit your physical peak in your thirties.
But we're not talking about joining the physical elite. Most guys won't be able to be part of the physical elite no matter what age they get started, so I don't know why that is the standard.
We are talking physical attractiveness, which can certainly be gained in one's thirties.
When I as in my twenties, I looked like a fresh-faced cute boy. When I was in my thirties, I looked like a handsome, masculine yet still youthful man (who had, incidentally, about thirty more pounds of muscle than my twenty-something self). Which look do you think got me more attention?
Hell, on my 45th birthday, I got propositioned by a tall, gorgeous, 25-year old blonde party girl at a club (she had no idea I was that old), and that wasn't an isolated case. Shit like that never happened to me when I was also 25.

SMV is measured by your efficiency when it comes to getting women to sleep with you. It doesn't matter if its your money or your looks, what matters is the rate at which you exchange things of value for sex. K dot or any celeb has more SMV than you even though you might be taller, more jacked, etc.
I eat cleaner, I lift heavier, and I run harder than I ever did when I was in college.
I actually agree here. When you are younger and building your career you don't have as much free time to workout and eat cleaner. You don't have as much money for nicer clothes. If you're tall, you are still tall regardless of being older.

The difference is the difference between hypothetical and reality. Sure, hypothetically you are at your peak in your early twenties, but how many guys actually leverage that properly? How many guys even know how to leverage that properly? I didn't know how to do heavy, complex lifts effectively until my late-thirties, even though I'd been "working out" for twenty years.
[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Lifting is really not complicated at all. Bench, deadlift, squat, rows and standing press. Do those exercises with full range of motion. Steadily up the weight by 5 lbs when you master a weight. All of the other exercises are just accessories. It only takes an hour of the day, and just don't eat too much and you'll be fine. Not that difficult.
Furthermore, if you've been doing sports since you were a kid, then you have been learning these skills all your life. Especially, masculine sports like wrestling, football or hockey.
It's unfortunate that so many people have such trouble with this.
In my experience, despite what Starting strength would have you believe, building upper body muscle is a bit more complex. For a lot of people (myself included) the bench press, bent over row row, and standing press are all pretty bad lifts. I've had a lot more success with the type of lifting Mark Ripptoe advises against: Lat raises, cable crosses etc. And of course pullups.
For lower body though Squats and deads give you 90% of the results.

Thanks, Taibow. Those are professional athletes. Most people aren't professional athletes. I am not a professional athlete.
I am fully aware, and I am not disputing that individuals that train like professional athletes are at their performance prime while young. My simple point, which most non-professional athletes can attest to, is that they often attain their performance prime in their 30s due to an abundance of factors, such as, lifestyle changes (better eating habits, lifting regime, and money to purchase supplements and better foods), physical education, motivation, self esteem, etc.

i think if you looked at the average of all men fitness-wise, you would see a similar pattern (this ny trooper fitness test data is evidence of that - http://www.nytrooper.com/fitness_levels.cfm). if you are better athlete in your 30s it speaks to you being an exception and/or how bad of an athlete you were in your 20s. this idea that most men are better athletes in their 30s than 20s is ridiculous and just affirms wishful red pill delusions about men peaking in their 30s.
[–]wehadtosaydickety7 points8 points9 points 10 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
Peak is a relative term. It only matters in relation to yourself. You do not reach someone else's peak nor they yours.
Many men do not reach maturity to take care of their bodies until their late twenties or thirties. As important many men don't emotionally mature into 'men' until mid twenties or thirties. Especially given the likely immaturity if early twenties guys, I'd guess an average peak of 30 to 35 is likeliest. But you'll have some awesome 22 year olds (Michael Phelps?) and some awesome 49 year olds (George Clooney), it's all relative.
For me it doesn't matter that my athletic potential peaked five years ago. I am in better shape today. I am better today than I was then, in every way, therefore my peak was not in my early 20s.

i've already established strong evidence that high caliber athletes (reflecting the high end male) and police officers (reflecting the average male) both conform to the pattern of mid twenties peak. so if your peak is in the 30s than you are exception.
I'd guess an average peak of 30 to 35 is likeliest.
not according to any data i've ever seen and have posted. but your view does match the red pill rhetoric. again i'm not debating exceptions, outliers, just this notion that the average peak is mid 30s that red pill puts forward but no data confirms.

Applying the principle of charity, Taibow, I would be happy to have a good faith discussion with you if we could clarify the issues. First:
This is ambiguous. Do you mean physically, emotionally, monetarily, academically, etc.? I would of course want to know if we are discussing intangibles like wisdom, which certainly come with age. I know we were discussing physicality and attractiveness before, but it seems this question is more broad. Can you please clarify?
Thank you.

i only used 'in every way' because that's the phrasing you agreed with / quoted. but to make things easier, lets say attractiveness in the eyes of women since if you think you are as attractive as ever and women don't then it's really meaningless.
[–]ProtoPillRed Before Red0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Okay, so we are discussing total attractiveness and not just physicality.
Spit-balling here from life experience with men older than me, I am guessing 45-50 probably marks the descent. At that age, my father was still in incredible shape, looked great/was healthy (due to lifestyle choices and having a wonderful wife), was far wealthier than in his 20s-30s, and had just enough experience to be wise as well as just enough intensity to still be youthful. All of the women (and men) in his life absolutely adore (respect) him.
Following much in my father's footsteps, I plan for my experience to be the same.

both conform to the pattern of mid twenties peak. so if your peak is in the 30s than you are exception.
You're comparing the general population to elite athletes and professionals. These are people that have great genetics combined with exceptional work ethic, mentoring, coaching, and resources provided for them. They have the best and ideal environment for them to physically succeed and develop.
Most men just do not have this kind of environment. I agree with the redpill notion that men peak in their early to mid 30's. Most men just are not as mentally mature in their 20's and do not have the resources nor the knowledge to take care of themselves.
Testosterone begins to diminish in a man's 30's, but with proper physical conditioning, healthy lifestyle and supplication he can keep a high T count relative to his 20's.
Thus, your data does not apply.

[–]Gittr0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
Okay, so you provide me an article telling me that police officers are obese. And? What is this supposed to prove?
This proves nothing. Is the average guy a police officer? So you're telling me that the average guy is a police officer that lets himself go?
Your data does not disprove any of the RP notions that men peak in their 30's, even physically peak. So what if Police officer standards drop for men in their 30's. That mean's nothing.
The average guy is not in the police force, he's not a professional athlete. He has to pay for a gym membership, doesn't get free trainers, doesn't have the dedication and work ethic that comes from sports, etc. He's some dude sitting in an office all day long.
We dont have concrete data either way. So, I will choose the more logical choice that men peak in their 30's due to a combination of factors.

maybe you could actually produce any data that shows any group of men in their 30s that are more fit than a comparable group of men in their 20s instead of trying to rationalize what you 'believe' to be true. i don't doubt outliers/exceptions exist, but i highly doubt you can produce any group or subgroup of 30 year olds that is more fit than a comparable group of 20 year olds. but, if you can show me actual data that supports your view, please post it.

That is true, which is why you have to aim to be a well rounded athlete, like a quarterback (the single hardest position to play in any sport). Of the top ten guys in total QBR this year, six of them are over 30.
[–]disposable_pants3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I don't think QBR is the be all end all, but it generally provides the correct answers. For example, pro football focus has 8 of those 10 top QBR guys in their season top 10, and I do think PFF provide quality information.
[–]disposable_pants0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I'd agree that QBR and PFF both generally have valid ratings for players, but the frequency of extreme outliers is worrisome and makes me question the rest of the data. I almost never see a post on /r/nfl about how QBR or PFF gave a seemingly great performance a middling grade, and then analysis stating how X receiver made a few great snags and Y corner dropped two picks, yet I see posts about how truly stellar performances earn awful ratings about once a month. Some of that is reddit liking to shit on everything, and some is confirmation bias, but it seems like there are at least as many highly questionable results as enlightening ones.

Hah, yeah ok. Being big and able to throw a football does not constitute exceptional athletic ability. Being able to flip your body in 3 different ways and land flat on your feet most certainly does. There are many sports that are head and shoulders above football when it comes to athletic ability.
No other sport requires you to process as much information in short amounts of time while constantly being under pressure. And then you get to try to throw the ball at just the right place at just the right time.
Look, it's a tough sport but you're definitely taking it way too far.
For instance, in an MMA fight, you might not have to process as much information, but you have a guy literally trying to take your head off and there's no one else but you to prevent that from happening. In a gymnastics competition, you are performing feats that literally no one outside of your small gymnastics culture can perform. In a Track event, you have to be one of the fastest runners in the world to even compete.
Ever notice how you have pick up football games, but none of these other sports? Because it takes a special kind of talent to perform them, while any average Joe can throw a football.
MMA, boxing, etc are the only things I would put up there with football, however, what sets QB apart is again, how much information he has to interpret and how fast he has to do that. Tom Brady on average gets rid of the ball in about 2.3 seconds. That is how much time you have to survey the field, identify the favorable matchups (is that guy their linebacker on my tight end, is that their #1 corner on my #2 wide receiver), calculate where the ball has to go and how fast it has to get there and then actually make the throw, all the while the pocket is collapsing around you. And that's if you are a classic stay in the pocket guy. The newer guys run around to buy time to make their throws. In a one on one fight all you have to worry about is 1 guy (who weighs the same as you do and is about as strong). QBs get hit by guys much bigger than they are.
They are apples to oranges. What sets MMA and Boxing apart is that the pressure is relentless. In football, they get a break in between every play. In boxing and MMA, the action doesn't end. You start to get beat on, and it just gets worse until you get knocked the fuck out. Just something to consider.

That is true, which is why you have to aim to be a well rounded athlete, like a quarterback
or more like an athlete whose experience/knowledge is more important than strength/speed.
That's a bad thing? Being able to rapidly process information under duress and make the right decision and then have the physical ability to execute said decision is the epitome of total athletic ability. Its why the QB is the leader of a team full of peak athletes.
[–]taiboworksrational idealism > toxic egoism0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Its not a bad thing, its just a reality that crystalized intelligence does not start declining like speed, strength, and even fluid intelligence which is why qbs can last longer in sports than most athletes.

I think you are right.
I have always thought TRP's "men's SMVs peak in their 30s" was a motivational tool.
But I am not so sure anymore.
I am 35 years old and look worse in almost every regard than I did in my 20s. Hair loss for example. Skin. Health problems are showing. But I do look more "like a man".
Still, women of all age groups seem to find me more attractive than in my 20s.
Conversations and flirting are different. Right now I feel like "yes. Yes! This is how I always imagined it should be when a woman wants to be with you! But something always felt off and something was missing."
I can only chalk that up to my age when I take an honest look at it.
I think neoteny is rarely discussed, despite it being one of the important factors in this discussion--a discussion that often involves 20-somethings.
[–]Gittr0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
RMV and SMV overlap heavily. Its essentially the same for women with a few notable exceptions.
This is because part of a woman's sex drive is connected to emotions and feelings. Which is why a man's SMV is more complex than a woman's.

I'd say physically, late 20s-early 30s are mens peak. When men of this age have been striving hard to get their lives set up in a certain way, have physical fitness, money, style, and developed more confidence and charisma via life experience, this is when most of them peak overall in attractiveness to women.
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Some men peak in their early/mid-20s because they're naturally good looking, athletic etc and their "Alpha male" behavior(being the loudest, dominating male hierarchy, drawing attention to himself etc) works very well on women until they're past their early twenties (21+).
I think most men, at least the types who go to college, start becoming attractive at around the same age where the "frat guy" starts losing his mojo, and that this keeps increasing steadily as the guy grows older. This happens because the confidence of the man starts growing, and women slowly lose power over him compared to what they used to.
The guys who are late bloomers are the ones who probably peak around their thirties. They've been socially awkward most of their lives and have struggled to understand intersexual attraction. However, these guys are smart, so they start understanding the dating game. They also build their confidence by building competence in a large amount of areas, while the guy who was the "Alpha male" in his late teens has stagnated. Most of all these guys are attractive because of their attained status and confidence, but they also learn how to dress and look better. This applies both to STRs and LTRs.

I'm highly skeptical of this "dating for men 30+ is easy peasy and all those hot college thots who rejected you will now be begging for it" trope.
To me, it's so obviously wishful thinking as to be pretty laughable.
Sure, if you get physically attractive and put down the vidya long enough to get a robust social life then yes, you can certainly see improvement.
But to think that your average TRP Joe software developer in his 20s is suddenly George Clooney once he's 30 is absurd.

I believe male prime is 28-35 years old. Prime for both sexes is defined as the age range at which they will attract the most suitors. It seems men in their late 20s to mid 30s are in demand by the widest range of women. They can date younger and older without trouble.
[–]LUClENSociology of Sex &Courtship2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
There's no reliable way to measure this if you're talking about a peak value in the dating market. Consider guys like Louis CK and Steve Jobs who don't really attain their fame and status until they're much older. Men will have better physical appearance in their twenties, but will make more in their 30s, but this is not always the case. Sometimes it can be the opposite.
lol all these answers.
beyond the peak is the male 'wall', when no matter what you do, or how much you earn, or how you look, you can't get the best of ladies within your dating pool.
for women, i'd say the wall is between 20-30. After 30, no matter how you look or behave, your pool is not gonna include the best of the best because you phased out by younger, perkier hotter women.
For men, i think the wall is between 40-50. You can earn a shit ton of money, and still look handsome, but you can't compare to a 30 year old man in his sexual peak maxed out on testosterone. Even if you marry a 22 year old HB9 at 50 y.o, she will sexually crave a <40 year old man.
Just the facts of life.
You dumb motherfuckers are being so hella dumb about this.
Yeah no shit a twenty one year old frat bro with a crazy body and good looks is going to be at his most attractive at that age, that's his thing.
Different people peak at different times and the variation is much greater for men than for women. If you're a guy that relies on being physically appealing and thrives on being in a certain culture (fraternity culture or university or whatever) then you're going to do better early on. If that's not you, you end up being pushed down other roads, whether it's into a career person, or a guy with an incredible style, or a guy who's amazing at a particular skill, or a guy with loads of charisma or whatever, or any combination of the above.
A lot of the things that makes a guy attractive require a lot more time and effort, so it's very rare that you're going to be in your early twenties and be that attractive. If you rely on your looks and being in a particular social scene then obviously you're going to go downhill but if you don't then you can only really go uphill, and sometimes you'll end up on a bigger hill than the frat bros were on.
With regards to looks, a lot of guys do get better looking as they get older. Most probably don't, but some do, and with better style and a personality to match the look you can definitely end up being more attractive.

If a man lifts from 18-22+, figures his style out (dresses like a man, not band tshirts and bootcut jeans or a hipster faggot), has a little bit of his own money, acquire a decent amount of facial hair, he can probably be his sexiest at like 24-28
But if he takes care of himself (suncreen, moisturizer, good diet), men don't age as fast as women, he can carry his looks into his 30's

You're still going to get wrinkles and sagging because your body stops producing collagen as you age.

The "peak" isn't an objective peak, but when the marketplace tilts in your favor. A tenderloin steak is objectively better and more expensive than a hot dog, but in a famine and all the steaks are gone, the hot dog's worth more than gold.
