Just world fallacy is endemic among human beings. It's a stopgap against feeling actual empathy, which believe it or not, is a limited resource.

Basically... you can't afford to feel bad for everyone, so generally if you hear about a story where someone is having a negative experience the first thing you do is search for a reason to not care. And one of the fastest ways to do that is decide they had it coming due to some moral failing on their part.

Btw, try to avoid the colossal irony of reacting to this by doing the exact same thing and deciding "all the people who decide others are wrong, are wrong" in order to paint them as villains.

It is legitimately hard to muster empathy for faceless strangers over the internet, and a lot of the time you'll get burned for doing so when the other person is like "FUCK YOU" in response. Most people online have a kind of emotional bitchshield in place, for good reason. Social media is peppered with trolls, extremists and assorted assholes, and human beings in general weren't designed to interact in this kind of anonymous medium ... a lot of the mechanisms that would ordinarily kick in to make us all like each other don't work over the internet.

I think you should read PPD more. people talk a lot about looks in PPD. People outside of PPD alwayd focus in other things, but not here.

The reason outside of PPD looks seem to not be focused enough is that most people don't consider women visual and sexual beings like men are. It is a bias, which TRP calls the women are wonderful effect. It has to do with some misconceptions the modern culture transmits. Scraps from the time when religion was the major force in culture.

Animals are best served selecting by looks and in some cases mate contests. There are also relatively few animal species where the male and female remain together after sex.

If the only goal on life is to have sex to continue life, then only basic survival skills are needed. The mother is sufficient, and won't select based on anything non-visual that would otherwise predict better offspring. So long a birth happens, death soon after for the mother is irrelevant to continuation of the species.

Human life is complex, and it takes much more to survive and thrive in society, govt programs notwithstanding. A mothers best interest is to select for the well being of her offspring as well as her own. If humans had a higher frequency of multiple births, that might skew selection to a certain degree.

When you hear the term "fuck like animals", it's not so much the frequency, but the lack of concern for the consequences.

Looks are hardly focused on last, but you can't change your face, so it's easier to focus on what you can change. Style, demeanor, behavior, and the image you project are highly malleable. Your face isn't. Getting in shape definitely is advice I always include when I am critiquing someone's dating life too. A person's attractiveness hinges on both looks and behavior, and looks, appearance and "image" being projected can either be a great help or a great hinderence.

Lots of dudes also come on here and act as though if you don't look like a literal Greek god, you are doomed to be an incel, or some shit. That is obviously fucking stupid though. I've tried talking to some incels and the pics I've seen of them make them look like ordinary fucking dudes.

Because most people aren’t completely ugly, and most people aren’t hot.

Yet most people get sex and dates. So the thinking is that it might not be looks (it could be presentation but that’s a different thing.

Also, when someone posts complaining about their lack of success with no photo of themselves....well there’s not much to go by.

Looks based is what almost everybody do. Men and women both do it.

But, because we live in a society, we don't want to come across as "offensive" because a huge portion of people are ugly, deformed, or of poor health, and obese/overweight.

Women do it most flagrantly in modern times because many of them are making more money than men in some fields, and they don't have to "settle". So, they keep their hypergamous instincts on the overdrive and keep chasing for the prince charming (even though many women defiantly tell guys that they don't believe in this fairy tales shit). The end result is, many of these women end up alone chasing the unicorn, at age 35, and reaching the ages where even the average dudes don't like to date.

I know tons of 35-40 year old career women who make six figure incomes, and engage in serial relationships with multiple dudes with no long term partner in sight.

Men do it but they are more honest about it. They don't usually hide it that they have the hots for the hot girl and want to smash her. But for most guys, its not a practical option anyway, so in real life, they are far more lenient in their standards. In fact, in 2019/2020, men's standards for women is bottom tier basically, which women take advantage of in their youth.

For me it's based on my own experiences. I don't have much going for me when it comes to looks, but I'm still somewhat succesful with women, and I see other guys that are the same. And from that pov it's kind of easy to come to the conclusion that a lot can be achieved by simply being the right kind of person; having the right personality and behaviour.

Looks matter of course, but they're not all that matters and they might often be more difficult to change than other things that also matters.

Animals also have much less developed brains and pick their food, habitats and pretty much everything else based on sight and smell. Humans are literally more cognitively developed, we take more factors into accounts for most of those decisions. Yes, we pick mates by filtering them through our preferences in terms of looks, but especially for LTR, more goes into it than looks. Say out of 1000 people, 50 are physically attractive to me, and within those 50, 3 are my kind of personality, and within those 3, 1 has shared experiences and opinions or hobbies or whatever and there you have it. it’s oversimplified and this mostly happens unconsciously, but it’s not only looks. Can be health, tone of voice, interests, charisma, humor, whatever. Sartre was physically repulsive but got mad pussy. Looks are hugely important but surmountable.

Are you talking about recurring dating in the situation where relationships are being sought, or just casual dating for sex? In terms of attributing to success or failure, Classic physical attraction is weighed differently in these two different scenarios.

That and if we are talking about failure after having sex with someone/having dated for a while, it can be assumed that physical attraction wasn’t a factor in the failing of the recurring connection and instead alludes to behavior, sexual/intellectual/emotional chemistry, etc.

A few reasons:

Women have significantly greater variation in what they find attractive.

Men are usually less attractive than the person they are dating anyway, so they get a pass.

Men are more likely to flip their shit if they get told by a woman they're getting dumped because they are balding, getting fat or have a small penis.

Due to reading some national geographic, I know that mating in animals is nearly 100% looks based.

There is enormous variation in mate selection and mating strategy across animals.
