This just takes a man and punishes them for being confident. Also why if I ask ill typically just give them my alt number or just ask them to write on a piece of paper/napkin/elbow. Also I completely respect a simple "no" for an answer.

This is why you don't ask for a girl's number. You're giving her a lot more power than you want her to have (she can say no, give you a false number or screen your calls afterwards). Instead, if you even bother to try to be romantically involved anymore (I don't, pros no longer outweigh the cons for me and my lifestyle), give her your number before you leave. All she has the power to do at that point is ignore it and throw it away.
