Wow, I feel really sorry for that poor girl, scarred for life. I just hope that whoever will take the motherly role over her will give her the love and respect she deserves and that it won't affect the relationship with the father.

How is this a "Men's Rights" issue? I'm aware that it proves that women can be sexually fucked-up as well, but I think that posts like this just play into the hands of people like SRS who claim that MR can be misogynistic.

The victim here is that little girl, not the hypothetical man who would supposedly get more time. Can anyone even cite a similar case in the same area where a man got more time? Or is it just anytime a woman gets a light sentence it becomes a men's rights issue? It's fucked up to appropriate someone else's suffering and injustice.

Four years. Equality under the law demands that every crime be punished on the same scale. If you hold an entire group to a higher or lower standard of punishment - you are literally defining a second class of citizenry. Why is this not obvious to a judge!?

If by "rare" you mean "more common than offenses by their fathers", then sure/s. Nevertheless, this is irrelevant. She's been convicted of a felony offense, this means she is a felony offender. Just because you believe her sex is less likely to commit such a crime, this grants her, as an individual, lighter punishment?

So if I killed some dude with an elaborate Rube Goldberg machine that involves four sporks, a bottle rocket and a crate of fertilizer, should I not also get points for pulling off a rare felony? I'd say such an elaborate murder would be rare for either gender, so technically I should get double the bonus points.

Not any more or less so than a relationship between father and child. How many times has this been proven? So why are these judges throwing equal responsibility out the window and rushing criminal women through the penal system so much faster than men? I'm not saying that convicted men need to be getting out earlier, obviously, but imagine the headline:

Most people would lose their minds over a headline like that. Why is it suddenly less abhorrent when a woman does it?. The judge even expressed his shock that the mother had "no psychological or intellectual reason" for her behavior. What exactly does that mean? A 2 year conviction if she'd been able to trump up even a single excuse? Believe me, I understand the concept of rehabilitation, but not as a relief of accountability.

Equal rights under the law means equal responsibility. Australia, as a country, has already failed monstrously to understand this concept. Crime is not gendered. If a person is convicted of anything from shoplifting to rape to incitement to violence to murder, it is their crime first, and personal circumstances second, that defines their punishment. Gender has no place in the discussion.

Finally, the judge says the woman deprived her daughter of the right to a "wholesome and loving relationship with her mother."

If ever there was a tell that Robertson is only concerned with his own definition of morality, this would be it. No child has a given right to even know it's parents, let alone be loved by them. If they do, let's go ahead and outlaw adoption and abandonment, shall we? Maybe we can also institute a law that subjectively defines and enforces love?

Children only have a right to be provided the things they cannot provide for themselves.

It's not even about Men, Women or Children, really. People are simply failing to realize the self-destructive potential of a society that does not enforce Equal Rights and Responsibilities under the law.
