Why are we doing this to our kids? We take away tag, we make Disney movies immoral, and we force them to eat meals from their school. They can't hug each other, say the word "gay", and even ask questions.

Kids touch each other. They're curious.

What I hate most about this is that these kids are being forced into a sexual situation, when there was none to begin with.

I just want to make the point here to everyone that this kind of thing runs into the exact same problem as the 'sex while drunk is rape' phenomena.

Both of them rest on a model of rape, or in this case sexual assault, defined as any sexual activity without expressed consent. They also both take a segment of the population and define them as unable to give consent (children, and drunk people). Now, this model works well enough for extreme cases, such as an adult having sex with a 6 year old, or a sober person having sex with a passed out drunk. However, they break down in less clear-cut situations such as when the parties involved are BOTH within the non-consenting group (both drunk or both children) or when the nonconsenting party is only slightly inside the non-consenting group (a 17 year old, or someone who's only had one drink).

Now, what we have is certain segments of our population, as well as elements of our political system, which have an unreasonable attachment to these abstract models to the point where they are willing to completely ignore the reality of human experiences, which is that 6 year-old's play doctor, and teenagers have sex.

This kind of ridiculous obsession with abstract models is exactly what you see when you argue with those nutters from SRS, or certain feminists, about whether or not drunk sex is rape, and it's exactly what you see from the Sheriff in this story.

Being 7 years old once, and having taken some of a young neighbor's clothes off while we were reenacting "Batman" in public! I definitely could have been accused of sexual assault, although I had NO idea what I was doing. Good thing I was not in the US back then and simply had to deal with a VERY angry big bald dad carrying my from my belt line. It is good to be alive!

And Americans are too damn worried while the most seemingly innocent people turn out to be the creeps. Blinding our kids is not the way to go about teaching them how to LIVE.

There's a lot of holes here.

The girl's parents told the paper that they tried to work things out privately but that D's parents did not provide that opportunity.

Riniker wound up accusing D of first-degree sexual assault, as part of a juvenile court petition for protective services filed last November.

If the girl's parents tried to work things out privately with the boy's parents, how did it end up in juvenile court so the DA could press these charges?

Regardless of the answer there, shit's getting pretty ridiculous.

While there's no way a six year-old should be prosecuted, child-on-child sexual assault does exist, and while the children aren't really responsible, it is important to make sure that parents take it seriously and make the parent of the child responsible for stopping him/her if the other party doesn't like it.

Not to sound like an ass but doesn't every little 6 year old use this shit if they don't get their way. Especially when the kid has ADHD to begin with. You would think it's the end of the world the way some of these children act. Shame on the parents for blaming it on outside influences.
