Well lets push for 50% male nurses

[–]itchyotcthy 89 points90 points91 points 4 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

I once worked in a Kindgarten where the majority of Teachers were females. I knew the owner and she would have preferred to have had more males but alas she couldn't get them. But what I do notice is that no one seems to be sticking their necks out to make sure that Kindgartens have 50% males.

[–]HitlerHistorian 54 points55 points56 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Im afraid we basically wont have any male teachers in 30years.

[–]Connect_Sale_1998 53 points54 points55 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

5 years. Male teachers are harder to find because men are dropping out of college

[–]itchyotcthy 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The politicians are going wild over that I'm sure 🙄 and the headlines are full of how they want more men as teachers and they are taking to the streets in protest to bring it about 🙄🙄

Sorry, I got carried away there..😊

[–]Sea2Chi 20 points21 points22 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Having good male role models is so important for kid's development too.

[–]Individual-Text-1805 11 points12 points13 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Tbh I've never even seen a male kindergarten teacher.

[–]itchyotcthy 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Mmmmmm...

[–]tenchineuro 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Actually at least two of our kids had a make KG teacher (the same teacher of course). But for that to happen seems less and less likely every day.

[–]SunshineMoonLit 8 points9 points10 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I worked in fundraising for over a decade, I have been in hundreds of schools. Elementary and middle schools are loaded with female teachers and have very, very few male teachers. Even PTA's were 99% women, elementary school is absolutely run by women at every level. It was rare to see male administration staff as well.

[–]Threeundercard 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That's so they can control how the little boys grow up. These females want to be worshiped and have these kids serve them.

[–]itchyotcthy 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I must admit when I'm in a 'lets point the finger at females' (which is rare for me) that I want to say "I'm not sure why females blame men or think they are monsters etc., when most males are brought up by mothers who are 'female'... so I wonder who they learned their behaviour off? "

But if I said that I'd be 'a horrible man'...

[–]KendrickMaynard 17 points18 points19 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Because they're all pedophiles. Duh. /s

[–]matrixislife 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"I'm doing my part!"

Actually the number of men in nursing [in the UK] seems to be going up, there's never been an official no men policy, there couldn't be really, and now the solidly anti-male senior nurses are dying off it's become much more accepting.

[–]TheSoviet_Onion 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

How about 50% uni students and 50% of onlyfans earnings for men

[–]pfizerface 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]HitlerHistorian -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

[–]someone_butnoone 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]Nathaniel66 223 points224 points225 points 4 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

Oh no problem, as long as they fulfill the requirements (including physical) that man.

[–]WingsofSky 125 points126 points127 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

*Removal of all physical requirements for fire fighters*

lol. Didn't see that coming, did ya?

[–]Nathaniel66 140 points141 points142 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Few years ago the issue of females in military was quite a thing in every news. There was a live interview with high rank officer:

Journalist (female): so what do you think about female soldiers?

Officer (male): oh yes, great idea, we need women in military

J: how many would you like in your unit?O: none

J: ??

O: Women do a great job in some positions, nurses/ doctors in field hospital, assistans general staff, logistic department and so on, but my unit operates in a field, we don't want women there

J: that's sexist!

O: listen lady, if you bring me a girl who is capable of carrying wounden man, 120kg + 20kg of gear, and do it under enemy fire, i'm happy to accept her

You can't imagine the shitstorm in media after that....

[–]CanniBal1320 68 points69 points70 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I mean the officer was spitting faxx. I have no problems with women being in armed forces/police/firefighters. I just want them to have the same criteria of qualification as a man.

[–]OctaviaPinfold 43 points44 points45 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You can't get to a more basic logic than that, yet feminists still argue against it. All they want is to use physically demanding fields as entry points for cushion-filled management jobs where they can boss men around all day long, meanwhile they endanger the lives of others with people who can actually do the job having to cover for the women who can't.

[–]TheNakedMars 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Bing!

[–]Nathaniel66 13 points14 points15 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Absolutely. And unfortunately, they are not.

[–]Kinexity 11 points12 points13 points 4 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

That's correct but still the actual units that go in the field should never be mixed and it's supported by research done by Pentagon iirc. On the battlefield when a woman and a man get wounded woman will get preferential treatment from man etc. General performance ranking goes like this: only men>only women> mixed

[–]EastDork 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, I don't believe they should even have to question their physical qualification in the first place, unless of course she is unqualified completely or is trying to virtue signal. No amount quotas either.

I'm all for social progress but I can see where the traditionalists are coming from, ie. you give an inch of liberty and they take a mile.

[–]True_Statistician267 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

The problem is they can’t so women get a modified set of standards that means firefighters less physically able to do the job in a literal life and death situations. I don’t know about you but if I’m caught in a burning building and pass out from smoke inhalation I’d really like the firefighter to be physically capable of carrying me out.

[–]Nathaniel66 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Exactly. What are they going to do? Water pumps giving less pressure so women can hold fire hoses, even at the cost of shorter range and efficiency?

[–]True_Statistician267 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

My guess is women just magically never get assigned to physically demanding tasks just like the military. What that translates into is the guys who are there get work to death because your no longer rotating duties and someone has to pull their weight because they are not physically able to.

[–]True_Statistician267 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Overall a less efficient unit so in the real world more people die who could have been saved. Yah gender diversity all we had to do is sacrifice people’s lives.

[–]sickcheesecake 96 points97 points98 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

There's a good reasonable argument why the majority of people would rather have a male firefighter save their house.

Men are more stable physically and can endure more pressure.

That's basic biology. Thats not excluding woman. It's just pointing out that men are more likely to endure more when it's coming to action.

[–]Metrack14 71 points72 points73 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

But you see, basic biology is now part of the patriarchy, we can't have that, even if you die because a woman couldn't carry your weight out of the burning house! /s

[–]HPUnicorn 18 points19 points20 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

NO need for the /s , that is what some people actually think :)

 > as a woman it was appropriate for her to hug the father of an injured teenage girl to reassure him that his daughter would be ok.

Ah yes, men giving hugs is innapropriate. Thanks feminism for fighting against gender roles.

Also, let's fight fire with hugs, that'll show it !

[–]IntroductionNew3421 72 points73 points74 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

They should make special firefighter units made 100% by females. They should only go to womens houses.

[–]HPUnicorn 33 points34 points35 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

OMFG, that would be so funny. Or to improve on your idea. Send out letters to all the women asking if they believe in 50% female fire fighters , those that respond YES< the new unit only to goes to their houses

[–]IntroductionNew3421 8 points9 points10 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yup, even better.

[–]Miggymoggy 28 points29 points30 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Ask any woman this simple straight forward question

"If you are trapped in a fire, who would you want to rescue you? A fire fighter who is a man or woman?"

Any honest person would say a man.

[–]YourPillsAintWorkin 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

How many women will answer that question honestly?

[–]Sea2Chi 11 points12 points13 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I don't care what's between their legs as long as they can safely haul my heavy ass down the stairs.

I used to hang out with a woman that was a crazy strong college athlete who I once saw pick up a guy and hold him against the wall with one arm. If she wants to be a firefighter, let her. She could easily pass the physical test.

However, I don' think there should be sexist standards double standards. Have on test and if you don't pass it, then you don't get to be a firefighter regardless of your gender.

[–]isthebuffetopenyet 12 points13 points14 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

One example does not change the overriding fact that men are stronger than women.

I appreciate that there are some women stronger than some men but the question is "choose a man or a woman", and anybody who suggests woman ahead of a man in this situation, is either crazy or has a death wish

[–]Sea2Chi 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I personally think having to choose between a man or woman is counterproductive. They should choose the fittest person for the job. If that happens to be a man, cool, if it happens to be a woman also cool. As long as they can pass the same physical test based on the real-world requirements for the job their gender shouldn't matter.

I know that means you're not going to have equal representation of women in the firehouse, but in my mind, there's a big difference between "Women shouldn't be firemen because it's a man's job." and "Anyone is welcome to be a firefighter as long as they pass the test, complete training and are able to handle the job as well as their coworkers."

[–]bufedad 8 points9 points10 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

. She could easily pass the physical test.

This is an assumption, and often women with strength can't even get through the test, let alone the training.

The problem is, even strong women are far more prone to injury than comparable men.

NPR did a piece years back about a city (I think LA, but don't quote me on that) trying to recruit female firefighters.

They could get women to sign up. Almost none passed the test, those that did were injured during training. The very few (and I mean single digits) that completed training were quickly injured on the job and riding a desk.

[–]Kuato2012 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The problem is, even strong women are far more prone to injury than comparable men.

It's worth repeating that, on average, men have not only bigger muscles, but also stronger bones, ligaments, tendons, and even skin. Testosterone builds you more rugged. This is not sexism, only biological fact.

[–]Reddit_Sux_Hardcore 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I used to hang out with a woman that was a crazy strong college athlete

Yea, I'm sure there are exceptions, but rare as fuck.

The answer is still: You'd want a man to save you. Why? Because the average man is stronger/better than 90%+ of females.

[–]my-blood 18 points19 points20 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Hey I got no issues they just gotta make sure that the basic requirements aren't reduced lol.

[–]DanteLivra 16 points17 points18 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah like they did with police work... More people are gonna die in the following decades because women feel entitled to being important without working for it.

I don't have a problem with women being firefighters, as long as they can bench.

[–]program_mer 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If they are eligible, why quota?! Or they lack minimum qualifications?!

[–]someoneelseiknow 10 points11 points12 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Anyone who can do the job I am ok with. I also do like when I work with people who fit into smaller spaces than I do.

I feel like quota would lead to discrimination though.

[–]Shipendo 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Gender shouldn't matter when hiring. The only thing that should matter is the person and his/hers qualifications. It's perfectly fine for more females to become firefighters, as long as they meet the physical requirements.

[–]40moreyears 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You know it really isn’t fair that we don’t allow women to be firefighters… oh, wait. There is no gender restrictions for being a firefighter? The woman who try just have a hard time making the physical requirements, or woman just don’t want to do it? Interesting 🤨

[–]iluv_versed 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Are they going to push for 50% oil rig workers?

Feminists: "But some women lift weights!"

Reality: "Those women had no trouble getting a firefighter job"

[–]princelydeeds 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

😂😂😂😂😂

In 1 year, almost all of them will have quit or be trying to milk a disability hustle.

Firefighting is tough, hard work, especially in older cities.

A lot of men are going to struggle, with the difficulty of the work.

Almost all women, are going to struggle and sooner rather than later, their bodies are going to break down....

[–]introspectthis 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

When the group of concern is responsible for saving the lives of others, and being able to save said lives is contingent on physical strength, prioritizing inclusivity becomes a nearly villainous act. Wilfully endangering the lives of those who have called to be saved, scared more than they ever have been as everything they have burns around them.. Intentionally forsaking one of, if not the most important factors (physical strength) for preventing agonizing deaths in the name of stroking egos in the triumph of, "Regardless of the consequences we are entitled to be equally involved" Is the absolute fucking height of selfishness.

[–]OctaviaPinfold 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

That meant that a male applicant who ranked in the fifty first percentile of his gender stream missed out on a job even if he got a better score on his tests than a female.

Yay equality /s

Feminists are literally playing with people's lives now. All they want is to use physically demanding fields as entry points for cushion-filled management jobs where they can boss men around all day long, meanwhile they endanger the lives of others with people who can actually do the job having to cover for the women who can't and are only there to be promoted soon.

[–]Ok_Research219 11 points12 points13 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Man, Female cops are peeling out like cowards when they see a guy get gunned down less than few feet away from them. These women want female firefighters like that. They might as well put up s’mores when the building is on fire.

[–]itchyotcthy 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Glad this is posted here as I would have done it.

Like Bettina's work.

[–]Firm_Mobile3221 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

For the record, let's state a reasonable position on this sort of situation.

Nothing I'm about to say is in any sense prejudicial to anyone's right to pursue any job they want to pursue. There are many men and women who excel in careers that are stereotypically done almost exclusively by people of the opposite sex. I have good friends in that situation who are aware of my views and agree with them. I don't think anyone has any problem with that if it happens on a truly equal opportunities basis.

I don't care (and nobody should care) what proportion of people of any demographic pursue any particular line of work. What I care about (and everyone should care about) is that everyone has the same opportunity to do that if they want to. The forces of hardline feminism will tell you that any situation where the distribution is not 50% men and women is evidence of people not having that same opportunity.

The problem is, it isn't even nearly that simple. I wish it were, I think we all wish it were, then this would be an easier discussion, but it isn't.

Men and women do not produce identical results on psychometric evaluations. That represents no negative judgment on anyone; it's often taken as a criticism of women, but it isn't. Different doesn't mean worse, and that is a reality that almost everyone in this debate accepts on some level. Hardline feminists typically concentrate on those differences which are unflattering to men, such as their increased average propensity to violence, and that's an absolutely valid statistic, just as much as women's increased average time to solve certain types of 3D puzzle.

What people on both sides of this debate overlook is that none of us are slaves to the statistics. Men are not universally violent; women are not universally slow at solving three-dimensional puzzles. The differences are actually not as big as many people expect them to be, anyway.

The key conclusion is that we would not expect men and women to have identical desires or to pursue the same goals in exactly 50% proportion. If you want to look at some interesting numbers on this, search for "Nordic paradox," which is based on some fairly recent data showing that given more latitude to pursue the interests they'd freely choose, on average, people actually tend toward gender-stereotypical work.

You don't even really need that, though. The idea that men and women do not have identical goals on average was more or less settled science for most of the twentieth century, and it's amazing that this has been somehow been manipulated into being a controversial issue. It isn't. About the only discussion point left in this debate is whether these findings are provoked by biological or sociological factors, the old nature or nurture debate, and the best information we have is that it's probably a bit of both.

The only corner this leaves for hardline feminism is to claim that we should try to remove those sociological factors; people should not be pushed down a particular career path by society's expectations. I have no great objection to that. Some people might say that so long as people are genuinely happy in their choices it's all good, and it isn't up to anyone to tell people what they should want to do. That's true enough, but on a species level it's probably good to have the greatest talent pool available for every job, and so I'd prefer we didn't live in a world in which societal pressure pushed young people down gender-specific career paths. I suspect that's inevitable to an extent, but I don't think it's overwhelming right now.

Either way, I don't think anyone has any real issue with young people being clearly informed they're free to pursue whatever they want, and I suspect doing that well might bring the numbers closer to 50% in many scenarios, but the problem is that hardline feminism has now staked a claim to a 50% distribution as the only acceptable goal. I don't think that is achievable without forcing people to take work they simply don't want, so what they're demanding is probably impossible, at least in any free society.

Again, I don't think the vast majority of people have any problem with people being encouraged to pursue whatever work they want, and it would be easy if a 50% distribution in everything were a reasonable goal. In the end, though, it's an unscratchable itch, an unachievable goal, even if it were a reasonable goal that were being pursued fairly.

And it isn't either of those things.

[–]MrElderwood 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

When are people going to realise that most of the gender imbalance in careers is down to person preference, and not oppression?

The Scandi countries are the most egalitarian in the world, and women still broadly prefer the more historically female careers - teaching, nursing etc.

Men and women want different things, and when all things are equal they prove it with their actions!

Basically men firefighters have to work twice as much.

[–]rabel111 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Whether including women in firefighting/rescue roles is appropriate or not, depends on whether they meet the required physical strength tests to do the job. It sounds like they don't, and the rules had to be changed so they could qualify.

What really gets me is that with all these fights to make women 50% of male dominated workplaces, and none to make men 50% of female dominated workplaces, we will end up with women needing to fill more than 50% of all available jobs. This seems implausible, particularly when women prefer part-time work, and have long periods of no unemployment/leave while having children. How does that work outside the deluded feminist bubble?

Exactly, this will hurt men more than it will help women. And that seems to be the idea. Feminism seems to want to deny man any place in society and any way to earn a living. And the social safety net does not really support men.

Just hold to the same standards as the men!

[–]buckeye111 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

How about we get the most physically capable people available that want to be a firefighter because lives are on the line.

50% quota for teachers!

50% quota for nurses!

50% quota for secretaries!

50% quota for child care workers!

EQUALITY FOR ALL!

The CPAT consists of real world tasks a firefighter is likely to perform at a typical fire.

Adapting these tasks to make them easier for females to perform so they can get a passing grade is a disgusting and dangerous practice.

[–]contraterrene 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

We all know what will happen and it's a good chance that the blame will fall on a man or men somewhere.

[–]YourPillsAintWorkin 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Can they carry a man on their shoulder?

[–]DirtyPartyMan 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

As long as you get to create all female fire teams.

[–]Starmind0 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You don't even see requirements for balance based on races, sexuality, religion, etc. Bullshit like this have always only applied for women because of the disgusting female privilege.

[–]aigars2 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't think pushing anything upon people is good idea in a free society. There is an opportunity for everyone to work anything they want if they are capable of learning, doing it.

[–]jessi387 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is ludicrous and dangerous.

[–]Adeus_Ayrton 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If there's a female firefighter who can do this, and all the other awesome stuff firefigthers can without a second thought, then by all means let them.

But we know what's gonna happen, don't we. They're just gonna reduce the requirements, until firefighters have to get busy rescuing other firefighters, instead of the victims. And it'll promote huuuge workplace inequality, and damage the ties firefighters currently have to one another, destroying team work and team spirit. Not surprised one bit that this is Australia tho.

A higher proportion of men are in the work force so there’s no justification for insisting women be 50% of any occupation.

And of course there is never an excuse for sexually discriminating against men.

And if not enough women sign up, defund the fire department for "misogyny" and let the fire take it all. Thinking about it, at least it would end feminism.

[–]shortman162cm 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

in physically intensive jobs women definitely should get paid lower than men. Because men are stronger and have better stamina

[–]bilgediver 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well the more firefighters that are women, the more firefighters that ARE women can assist out of danger in case of problems.

I guess.

[–]nikgtasa 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You'll burn.

[–]j0k3ricu 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So, if women who are applying are not fulfilling the physical requirements, should we force women who fulfill the physical requirements to become a fire fighters?

Sounds like an awesome Communist totalitarianism.

[–]Reddit_Sux_Hardcore 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I've had people argue with me that women should have no problem being a firefighter.

They think, since they can pass the tests, they should be able to do their job and I'm just "sexist".

Yea, what about carrying a 250+ pound man down some stairs, etc? What about breaking down doors? Yea...

Uh well my biology class taught me that men r likely to perform better under those type of situations coz they r literally built to do that. I want to ask them , R u willing to risk lives of people who could have been saved just so u can fulfill ur propaganda? R u willing to risk the lives of the people who r their to rescue the victims so that u can fulfill ur propaganda? If u only just care about women, just think the amount of women that r going to die just because they were underqualified for the job? Lives r at stake here, human lives, Do u realise the value of human life?

[–]Mythandros 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Provided they can meet the same physical (and mental) standards as the men, cool.

If they are being hired due to a quota or are not required to be as capable as the men, fuck no. I don't want some 120 pound girl, wearing 20 pounds of gear trying to lift my fat ass and killing us both, thanks.

[–]XXjusthereforpornXX 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There also needs to be 50% female push in in plumbers, electricians, construction workers, janitors, oil rig workers.

[–]YesYesYesVeryGood 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't care if it's a man or a woman. If they can do the job within the guidelines it needs, do it.

Heck, I'm not afraid to give out jobs to immigrants as fire fighters also as long as they can do it well.

[–]maciarc 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm telling my grandchildren this is Daft Punk.

[–]silly_little_jingle 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I have 0 issue with it so long as they meet the physical requirements. The problem is them lowering the standards that male applicants are held to so that women can meet them.

It's a dangerous physically demanding jobs. Lower standards to be woke just puts lives in danger.

[–]la_1099 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

We need more female firefighters. 50% is a good number for starters but given how long this industry has been all male dominated, we need to push for more than 50%. I think 75% is a reasonable goal. And for anyone saying women can’t do the same physical work as men in this position: how dare you. it’s up to the women to decide which physical work her body can do. If she is not able to lift the hose or kick down a door, it’s not her fault. She doesn’t have to do these things if she feels her body can’t.

Why only men have to risk their lives. It's fine let it slide.
