It's always amusing that so manywomen think men are not qualified to talk about women-except to repeat what a woman has already said-but also think themselves qualified to speak for men.

[–]TendieDinner777 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This. Keep our gender out of your mouth then, since we have to be experts to know anything, apparently.

[–]WeEatBabies 12 points13 points14 points 4 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

Paywall, does any1 have the list?

yeah I gave it a read, still doesn't change what I said

It's the British press, written by a woman.

Here are a few other articles she wrote.

  • Competition, conflict and crying: Eight things men need to learn about women
  • Over 50? Here’s how to be a MAD (midlife, attractive and dependable) man
  • The five fashion fantasies that midlife men harbour, from James Bond to David Beckham
  • Ed Balls or Marco Pierre White – what kind of 'man cook' are you?

She sounds disgusting

[–]Breaker-of-circles 7 points8 points9 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]needs_grammarly 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

dawg no way "mandieting" is a thing can someone explain?

[–]tenchineuro 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Someone needed to write an article and had no ideas, so they hijacked the manspreading/mansplaining concept?

[–]bottleblank 9 points10 points11 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Agree with others that this is generic sexist nonsense, for the following reasons:

Mansplaining: Women do this too, people do this, it's called being condescending, and it's not male-specific. It's only given a male prefix because it's a more targeted stick to beat men with that way. We already had gender-neutral words for it, use those instead. She even adds examples of where such input is beneficial, even if presented in patterns of speech that women might tend not to use.

Manreporting: Ok? So we're not very good at gossiping, that's not a fundamental flaw of male behaviour. What business is it of yours anyway? It's their date, in the example, it's not for you or me to know the gory details, "he" (or indeed "she") who went on the date will tell you directly what happened, if they wish.

Mansharing: In my experience that's not true, I have male friends who are willing to talk personally and emotionally, perhaps not as extensively as women, but it's not as though we don't do it at all. Even if it were, we just have different approaches to feeling better when we're struggling, simple male companionship and sharing activities improves our sense of wellbeing and provides us an enjoyable counterbalance to the negativity we've experienced.

Manlooking: Come on, really? "Incredible"? It's a trick of the mind which can happen to anybody, called "perceptual blindness", in which we expect not to see something and so we don't see it, or are so distracted by something else going on that our mind is busy processing that and not looking for something else.

Manwatching: People have different interests and capabilities for remembering specific details about certain media, so what? Do you, Ms. Watson, remember football statistics, the horsepower of a car, or the specifications of the parts inside your computer? No, because you're not interested in them, or at least not sufficiently interested to deem them important or relevant enough to remember. That's fine, that's you, but don't expect men to be any different.

Mandieting: This one takes the, uh, cake, so to speak. You're suggesting that women have never obsessed over caloric intake or the quantity of certain foods they eat? Diets, whether genuinely effective and medically approved or dangerous fads, have been primarily targeted at women for years. Decades, even. Diet clubs, womens' magazines, specific products, the whole shebang. To pretend that many women haven't been concerned about being overweight, even when they weren't, would be complete horsecrap, there has even been (quite reasonable) pushback about the fact that women are expected to fit into size-nothing clothing to be considered attractive. So very much not a thing that men exclusively do. Even if it were more of an issue for men, as you seem to imply, where's that same compassion and pushback against unreasonable body image expectations for men?

(Note: I'd also add that losing weight, for men and women, is not necessarily an unhealthy thing to do, sometimes it is medically beneficial or even important, if you're already overweight, and that shouldn't be shamed. But doing so to an obsessive and pedantic degree is potentially problematic, for both men and women, so have a little heart and consider the potential that they might be sinking into some kind of body image or eating disorder, if they're already a healthy weight.)

[–]czechchequechecker 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

The point here is that we look at the bigger picture and cannot be bothered with the details. Knowing those details or not has no effect on the actual outcome. Or atleast, the effort put into details isn't worth it to change the outcome.

Women complain about high mental loads, having to remember everything with the kids and household. We can make things work just fine without our heads exploding. Hell, they even think for us. How often have you heard the phrase "Why do I always have to think for you?"? I never ask for anyone to think for me. It's kind but also insulting, unnecessary, I never ask for it.

[–]bottleblank 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It's not very kind if they do it without asking then complain about doing something you never asked them to do, is it?

Especially if they do it on purpose because they would've done something differently to you, then argue with you about you not having thought it through properly when the only thing you did "wrong" was not be a mind-reader.

[–]czechchequechecker 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm completely lost, can you please mansplain it to me?

[–]auMatech 30 points31 points32 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

And another thing about mansplaining is it is gender neutral: mansplainer is just another word for tone deaf bore, and you don’t have to be a man to excel at that.

Huh? If its gender neutral, why is it called mansplaining, and why is the description basically "when a man condescendingly talks to a woman"? Prime example of a sanitisation attempt of a misandrist term. It's not gender neutral, it's hateful towards men, and it's hypocritical since it employs the same condescending dismissal that the term claims.

Anyway, since we’re on the subject of men’s shortcomings, might as well run through a few that are particular to the male sex and that could do with addressing.

So basically this article is just man bashing. Next!

[–]FlowingSkullet 10 points11 points12 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Saying mansplaining is gender neutral is completely idiotic. Example, if I pointed out a woman 'womansplaining' to me in the workplace it would be off to HR for me. Also the subheading of the article which says 'Men have numerous shortcomings' would never be published if 'Women' were mentioned instead. As you say, just poorly observed and unfunny manbashing. Criticising men for not being interested in media targeted at women is also beyond stupid. Like we expect women to give a shit about football?

I think Bill forgot to put the sarcasm thingy after his comment.

[–]intactUS_throwaway 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not sure if not paying attention or just simping.

[–]Angryasfk 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Plenty do.

[–]throwaway67575753 8 points9 points10 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Oof. The worst of days is the day men discovered that pak choi is practically air, beanshoots are almost zero calories and substantial stir fries, if basically tasteless, are 700 calories and therefore good for fasting days. No woman knows the calories in a tiny squirt of chilli sauce. Men do.

Objectively false, I don't watch my calories.

You won’t catch a man missing a knock on in rugby, or the part where Paul McCartney talks about getting the piccolo player to hit the impossibly high note on The Fool on the Hill. And yet, have you noticed, if you’re watching, say, The Lost Daughter and ask them to confirm what X said to Y they will have absolutely no idea? They may even say, who is X? A lot of manwatching is barely watching at best

So this implies that when engaging in anything female-centric that men don't pay attention to what's occurring on the basis that it doesn't appeal to the man? Honestly considering what I read is female-centric and what I watch varies I don't see where this comes from. If you wanna play that game women do the same with sports.

Incredible this one. They say “It’s not there” but it always is – they just can’t see it. Reasons for this are threefold:

1.Not moving stuff eg the gherkin jar.

2.Rushing it because they consider looking for things to be idiot’s work.

3.When finally they resort to moving stuff, scrabbling impatiently and instantly recovering the momentarily uncovered, looked for item.

This again implies that men only do this, and for that matter, this is just disgusting to me because these for the most part these are normal human things that people do.

Get three male friends together – one whose dog has just been put down, one whose wife has filed for divorce and one who has recently lost his job – and it’s guaranteed they will not mention any of the above. Maybe one will say “here’s to making better choices/Bumble”, but that’s it.

FALSE. If you got good best friends most of them share that shit consistently. Probably the farthest beyond the mark I've read yet.

Us: “So what did he say?” Him: “Oh…I think…it went fine.” This is the aftermath of a date between two friends we hoped would hit it off. In these circumstances a woman would file a report, Linda Tripp style. A woman would not need a voice recorder she would remember every single word and gesture and how often he looked out of the window.

If you need a recorder to go on a date because you feel insecure why the fuck are you dating people in general? I don't get it.

None of these are male-centric things that only men do, and even some of these hit far off the mark. This is what people are paid to write?

[–]wrekd 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They sell bullshit. I got hit with a pay wall. How did you even see this article? The point was not the dumb shit they said, the point was to get you to look at the dumb shit, and to make money in the process.

[–]ZimbaZumba 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I do not think this is a serious article. It is just clickbait to get a reaction. Don't react to it.

[–]UnconventionalXY -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's serious if that is what women actually perceive about men enough to want to complain about the behaviour and want to change or suppress it. Poking fun at people is the first step to actively persecuting them, if there is enough interest in the fun part.

[–]SweatyAdvance 8 points9 points10 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yes more man hating bullshit, why post this?

[–]intactUS_throwaway 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And behind a paywall on top of that.

[–]TendieDinner777 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Wow, all I needed was a sex change and hate in my heart and I could have spewed enough garbage for my editor to pour onto this rag of a publication.

[–]AgincourtSalute 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

So a woman writes an article telling men how they aught to behave and speak, and uses ‘mansplaining’ in the title. I’m not sure about you guys, but I’m very tired of having people ‘femsplain’ to me how I should act. On the subject of being a man, I think men are probably the experts here.

[–]Artsy_domme 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

🥴… it.. it would be “womsplain”

Because man is to woman as male is to female..

[–]AgincourtSalute 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I see what you did there.

[–]Artsy_domme 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Lol. I’m so happy you got the underlying joke in it too. No hate. Just wanted to be funny.

[–]LettuceBeGrateful 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

This seems more tongue-in-cheek to me than serious. It's the reverse of making fun of women for taking forever to get ready for a night out.

[–]FlowingSkullet 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It isn't meant to be serious, but is written from a typically biased feminist and misandrist perspective. How many articles have you seen recently humorously pointing out women's foibles written by a man in mainstream media? If there are any, I haven't seen them.

[–]AndrewLevin 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Agreed. I am usually the first to put on war paint when I smell man bashing articles, but this one does not take itself seriously so it is harmless.

[–]AcidKritana 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The title is making me lose more braincells than I thought were possible.

[–]daniellederek 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Honestly. Just stop any interaction that doesn't see yourself benefit in a quantifiable way. If they need something that another man charges money for stop robbing him of the opportunity. No good deed goes unpunished.

[–]Training_Position642 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So is this all gonna result in a worldwide war between the sexes and if it does i would like it to be just hand to hand combat no overkill of military resources lol. How long do you think a gender war worldwide would last, what societies if any would go into hiding lol

I’m guessing he wrote a comment that’s akin to the inverse of the article? Lol
