My shopping haul from today, featuring my two cat sons (left cat has been known to attack guys I date when they don't respect his boundaries or he gets a bad vibe from them). I've been single for 2 months now after dating an LVM and I'm spoiling and treating myself in ways he never did!

Traffickers like targets who seem vulnerable. If this woman chats warmly about your disadvantages but then turns up her nose at the discovery that, lo and behold, you’re well-adjusted, independent-minded, and surrounded by people who love you… run for the hills.

People who are attracted to vulnerability (real or perceived) are predators.

I cannot tell you how many people - mostly men looking for an easy-to-control doormat bangmaid - have targeted me thinking I was vulnerable and then got BIG MAD when they realized I wasn't.

The sheer anger in their eyes when they learned I was close with my family, that I had friends and a community they couldn't isolate me from, that I had self-esteem and didn't react to negging ... you'd think I just insulted them.

[–]fds_throwaway_4_uFDS Newbie 129 points130 points131 points 4 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

This is why we should never tell people about our vulnerabilities.

[–]yarnburglar 119 points120 points121 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I used to think sharing vulnerabilities was a good way to relate to people and foster closeness. Like the ultimate way to really know someone was to have "deep and honest conversations". I have learned the hard way that this information is dangerous in the wrong hands. I have attracted several LVM and narcs with phrases like "My dad was in and out of my life" or "I'm really trying to work on building my confidence".

[–]fds_throwaway_4_uFDS Newbie 25 points26 points27 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

We live and we learn. I’ve done the same.

[–]Inspection-CriticalFDS Newbie 64 points65 points66 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

I learned that lesson the hard way. Took bad experiences with multiple men until I realized that ANY show of public vulnerability is like ringing the dinner bell. There's a significant percentage of the male population walking around looking for wounded gazelle. It's really crazy.

Get this: Years ago, I mentioned a challenge I'd overcome (homelessness) to a big networking group I was a part of. I didn't think twice about it. It was in the past, I was fine. More than fine, actually, I was a rising star in my field. I was going places.

A guy in the group connected with me shortly after that. He rang no alarm bells. He wasn't creepy, he wasn't pushy, he said nothing weird. I didn't think twice about him.

Do you know I was friends with this guy for the next 2 years? We worked on group projects together with other people and got to know each other well long distance. Which just goes to show you, long distance is bullshit. You can't know someone until you meet in person - which we did, at a conference. He groped me, tried to initiate an affair, then cried when I told him to go home to his wife. It was a clusterfuck.

That's not the weirdest part. As he's crying, he tries to elicit pity saying he's in a loveless marriage with a mean wife (classic cheater sob story) and he feels so bad that he hurt me because I used to be homeless.

I froze. That was just a story I mentioned in passing 2 years earlier. It was a tough time of my life, but ffs I overcame it.

In that moment, I realized my recent accomplishments didn't matter to him, nor the reality that I was healthy, happy, and going places. In his mind, I would always be some vulnerable woman who surely had terrible mental health and low self-esteem. I instantly made the connection that he'd reached out to me after I shared my story. Which meant he'd only been interested in me for my perceived vulnerability. Our whole friendship had been a sham.

I went home and never saw him again. He spread stories through the grapevine that his wife was physically abusive, a serial cheater, and a drug addict. But his stories didn't add up. He told people he was being treated for hep. And while he claimed his wife had just been arrested for assaulting him, a quick google showed she was not only the one to file for divorce, but she got generous alimony in a state that heavily leans in favor of domestic violence victims (even men).

Here's the craziest part - what turned out to be the only red flag, and I'd completely missed it at the time.

The moment this guy reached out to connect with me years earlier, I'd of course looked him up on social media and thought it strange how sparse his Facebook was. This was 10 years ago, when FB was still popular among young people. I had a fleeting thought that it was odd he didn't use his FB at all when all our mutual friends were documenting their whole lives online, but I didn't dwell on it. I should've.

Months after all the shit went down, a mutual contact made me sign into her FB account, telling me there was something I needed to see. She directed me to this guy's profile and I was stunned: This asshole had me on a filter! Turns out he actually had hundreds of photos of him and his wife going back years. Birthdays, anniversaries, out with friends. Posts about their trips together. Lovey dovey messages from his wife on his wall.

It was insane. I'd always known he was married, so it's not like I would've been interested in him anyway, but this dipshit played a long con from the moment he made contact. He really thought he could convince me to be his mistress with some sob story about his "dead marriage", which meant hiding all evidence from his social media.

This isn't the only man I've met who tried so hard to take advantage of me because he saw (real or imagined) that I was vulnerable. And this is why I never share vulnerabilities in public anymore. As far as the world's concerned, I'm healthy, happy, successful, and I've got a great inner circle of people who'd notice I was missing within 5 minutes. That's all anybody needs to know.

Wow. Damn that is a crazy story… It’s insane to me how much effort they can put into these types of things.

I have an ex that years later I found out from his best friend that he literally moved a block away from me on purpose. I had been declining him for nearly two years prior to that.

It’s crazy how much strategy men have to put into dating. Like what the fuck is wrong with them that they need so many tools and techniques to trick us into being with them?

Like wouldn’t it take less work to just be a good person then it would to create an elaborate scheme to trick us?

[–]Inspection-CriticalFDS Newbie 22 points23 points24 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You'd think so, but losers don't think that way. They know they have nothing to offer but have no interest in putting in the effort to improve.

I knew a guy in college who faked friendship with me for 10 years trying to get into my pants. I've shared that story here. LVM are deranged.

[–]ArugulaIsAwesomeFDS Apprentice 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Jesus.

It’s all so sad.

You’ve got me realizing one of my guy friend has definitely been triangulating his girlfriends against me. Using our friendship to make them jealous. Several have over time stopped liking me… and two of which were friends with me first. 🤔

[–]starpupperyFDS Newbie 13 points14 points15 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

thank you for sharing. the amount of effort these scrotes put into being the best actor... how about levelling up their lives in an honest way? i just don't get it.

Too much work for sociopaths. They want easy.

[–]Unlikely-MarzipanRuthless Strategist 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is crazy! What a wild ride. Sorry you had to deal with all his BS.

And yes, the SM thing. That’s why I don’t really go with the whole social media thing being positive - he can easily be posting pics of you and have other women blocked from seeing them, and vice versa. FB is the worst for it.

[–]Davina33FDS Disciple 34 points35 points36 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes definitely don't. I would add the same for work as well. I had the question about sharing one weakness I have at a job interview. I was honest and the woman at the interview bullied me throughout my time there using that weakness of my mine. I will never be honest about it ever again.

[–]Unlikely-MarzipanRuthless Strategist 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes! This is exactly what my therapist said she felt happened a lot with me. They think you’re vulnerable, then when you’re not, they are outraged.

[–]lansburysodaFDS Newbie 114 points115 points116 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I’ve been targeted by female traffickers before. They prey on women/girls who seem vulnerable. It’s horrible

[–]Whateverbabe2FDS Apprentice 106 points107 points108 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

All of this is so very true and people don't talk about grown women getting targeted enough. My "friend" once tried to sell me to a pimp and ran with all my shit.

I'm thankful that the pimp had a heart and dropped me off at the nearest public transit station with a ticket home but that experience fucked me up bad.

[–]heroic_nincompoopFDS Newbie 40 points41 points42 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Wait what?? A pimp with a heart? That sounds too good to be true. What happened? If it's okay to ask

[–]KlarinassianFDS Newbie 180 points181 points182 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Disturbing story. I had never thought about female traffickers, but now that I look back, I believe one of my friends was targeted by such a trafficker. Like this author, my friend was emotionally vulnerable and isolated. The trafficker pretended to be her confidante, wined and dined her, listened to her complain about her ex, then sprang on her the fact that she (the trafficker) was in a sugar baby relationship with a 70+ year old man and offered to set my friend up with an 80 year old! Yup, just like that. The pitch was that this guy had money and would probably kick the bucket soon anyway. Naturally, my friend recoiled in disgust, and the trafficker disappeared.

[–]Inspection-CriticalFDS Newbie 135 points136 points137 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Never thought I'd share this story, but I think I met one of these people a few years ago.

I randomly met this woman at an event. Without going into details, imagine a pop culture event like Comic Con. She was much older than me and overly friendly, to the point I thought she was interested in me, but she was there with a guy who seemed like her husband. The guy was polite but aloof while she was acting like I was an old friend.

The whole encounter felt "too much." I wasn't scared or alarmed, exactly, but it rubbed me the wrong way. She invited me to a party afterward, which I declined. Something about her felt sinister, way beyond a simple miscommunication or poor social skills. I felt like prey.

A few days later, this lunatic sends me an autographed movie poster ($$$$) in the mail. I'd never told her where I lived, but she'd apparently googled me and found my office address. I'd mentioned the movie in passing and said it was my favorite, an innocent comment. I had no idea she'd do anything with it. I was freaked out and threw the poster away.

She also found me on social media and tried adding me. I never responded, just blocked her everywhere.

My friends suggested she was hitting on me and doing a bad job of it, but I felt like she was setting me up - either for her husband or something worse.

[–]KlarinassianFDS Newbie 100 points101 points102 points 4 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

She was probably gonna try to convince you to have a threesome with her husband or join his poly harem. Something like this happened to a lesbian friend of mine. My friend dated this girl for several months when, out of nowhere, the girl introduced my friend to her husband and suggested they have some "fun" together while the guy watches! Needless to say, my friend did NOT agree and stormed out. In retrospect, I'm pretty sure the guy was a pimp (this girl was engaged in online sex work), as he had several women in his "circle"... bet he was planning to add my friend to the list. My friend was lucky to get away safely.

Bottom line: follow your instincts. If anyone gets too friendly too fast, they likely want something nefarious from you. It's enraging that women will throw other women like meat to men, but unfortunately, this is the shit patriarchal world that we live in.

[–]Inspection-CriticalFDS Newbie 33 points34 points35 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sadly, I'm no stranger to women trying to set me up with their ugly husbands. I've had this happen so much already, I can now spot it from a mile away. It's so tiresome and rude.

This felt different, even more sinister. I legit got this weird intuitive thought as she's inviting me to the party that if I showed up, I'd get kidnapped.

[–]Perfect_Internal2586 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's scary AF

[–]XRozeFDS Newbie 15 points16 points17 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yup this is extremely common. The reality is the only way for a “””sugar baby””” aka prostitute to get out of the game herself is by recruiting other women in and becoming their madame/pimp.

Plus, “””sugar daddies””” usually will push their “””sugar babies””” to recruit more women in to entertain their business associates, a lot of times in order to blackmail them/trauma bond.

For example, a chick I knew who did this had a “””sugar daddy””” that would do a big vacation trip every year with business associates. The sugar baby’s job was to bring friends who could essentially be human party favors. Some of the business associates knew what the deal was going in, but others didn’t and that’s where the blackmail/trauma bond comes in. My friend told me that one year, one of the guys had a wife who was dying of cancer.

[–]springbabii 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In my tween years I read a fiction book on “lovergirls”; girls who befriend another girl, to then force you in prostitution. These “lovergirls” often times work for “loverboys”. Together they force, seduce or entice the young victim to sell their body.

I think my niece might have been targeted. She’s in high school and lives with us. She has a troubled past due to her parents issues and is very vulnerable. She found a friend at school and the friends mother immediately became overly friendly with my niece. She gives her daughter edibles, the daughters brother raped her and still lives in the home. They apparently offered to let my niece come live with them when they move out of state. The mother was always wanting “girl time” with my niece and bought her panties from Victoria’s Secret. The whole family struck me as creepy so I put a stop to the friendship over a boundary violation. I actually thought the woman might be trafficking her daughter and had her sights on my niece

[–]keep_my_stuffFDS Newbie 26 points27 points28 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

[–]KAT_85FDS Newbie 24 points25 points26 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's actually even worse than what I put on here... The friend would come to our house high on edibles and would tell my nieces and kids about how her brother who raped her was still living at their tiny-ass apartment. They had left another state when the school district there was investigating the rape allegations. The father came into my house and I could literally feel him sizing me up, sizing our situation up... I don't know how to describe it, it was predatory. I never let my niece go over to their apartment because I just got such a gross visceral vibe off of the parents I couldn't justify it. Which made me sad because my niece struggles to make friends in her new environment. Mind you, she told me that the parents reminded her of the friends her parents used to have who DID traffic their kids to pay for drugs. I reported to every contact I had and ended the friendship when the parents decided she couldn't come over to our house anymore for fear we'd report the edibles.

Wow, this deserves a FemaleDepravity tag. I read this article and remembered the Ghislaine Maxwell case, possibly one of the worst people alive. I hope she rots in jail.

ETA: This story has shaken me and made me remember some things. It's not trafficking, but, I do have memories of so-called female friends trying to push me onto some undesirable guy, so that they could ingratiate themselves in the undesirable guy's friend group (maybe because he had more attractive/famous male friends).

I was sitting at a bar and the guy moved to very close to me, intentionally so that I could feel his erection on my leg (I was 18 at the time). I didn't know how to act at the time.. he did it in public and my friends were sitting nearby. The "friends" put me in harm's way.

I knew a woman like this too. She was a Russian hairdresser at a salon I regularly went to and seemed super sweet and nice. I invited her to my birthday party and we became friends, and she seemed to get along with all my friends. However, as I got to know her more, I realized that she was "dating" or "seeing" literally 20+ men which raised my suspicions. She was always on a date with some guy at a party and every time it was always a different guy.

At this point, she started dating one of my guy friends who worked in animation and who was finally well off, but noticed that she was always trying to flirt with other men and pick up other men every time we met up for drinks.

On social media, she was always trying to post pics of the two of us together as if we were best friends which always got a ton of likes from all these married men who were the majority of her followers and she kept asking me to hang out with her and some of these "men" at different parties as they saw my pic and wanted to meet me.

I got bad vibes from her, and eventually ghosted her and unfriended her and also changed my hair salon.

LESSON: never invite your Russian hairdresser to your birthday party

Had this happen.

Offer to set me up w people in our field bc I was unemployed. Kept wanting me to send her my picture and resume. Kept talking about us dating successful men and having a good time with that, when I wasn't interested in that.

Looked her up online and discovered her credentials online were not what she was claiming to be. Wig was a different color too.

I sent the picture she sent me of herself to someone I trust and told em what I encountered.

May be some other kind of con. I don't really know. She did land a mark, unfortunately.

For all the anti cop stuff I see on fds look how one of the vetting techniques/ safety measures involved the police…. Traffickers are afraid of the police generally…. Because it’s the only fight against them… please be mindful of your anti police stances it comes at a huge cost no matter how problematic police are they are better than gangs/ sex traffickers.
