5th Anniversary of my Divorce!! Not sure why I even keep track of this day…it’s a horrible memory, but I’m so much better off today and I’m happy as F about it! Do any of y’all celebrate your divorce anniversary?

Liberation Day?

You're damned right I do!!! That's a personal holiday for me. I take the day off.

I'll wake up early, fire up the ol' Nespresso machine and have a nice coffee.

Some years, I'll also enjoy something sweet like a nice square of fine chocolate or a pastry from the Taiwan bakery. Sometimes I'll surprise the kiddos by cooking a nice meal and perhaps buying some books or toys "just because".

My divorce was in the unstable part of the fall, so sometimes it's nice enough for a ride. Sometimes it isn't. I might head to the car dealership and test drive a car I've been lusting after. I might head to the motorcycle shop and fondle a bike I'll never ride outside of my imagination.

After the sun has gone down, I'll open the Yamazaki 18 (bought the day of my divorce and reserved specifically for this occasion) and enjoy a Hoyo de Monterrey Excalibur #3 or an Avo XO Intermezzo.

Jaco Pastorius, Willie Nelson, Bill Withers, Joe Hisaishi, DJ Muro, The Oak Ridge Boys, Bootsy Collins, Dolly Parton, or Gil Scott Heron will be playing in the background for most of the day.

The day is largely a celebration of peace and free will. But it is also to remind me about loving myself. I see so many men who are utterly devastated after a divorce because they lose themselves in marriage or (worse) the woman. They forget who they were and stop loving the most important person in their life.

Take the scene from Shawshank Redemption where Red takes the bus to go see Andy. The whole day is that bus ride. Who knows what tomorrow will bring. But hope is the theme. A better tomorrow. That's what Liberation Day is for me.

I don't know yet. I have only been divorced for 10 days officially and I am still processing it. It doesn't help that the actual date of divorce was on what would have been our 4th anniversary. That was a bit strange too. I probably will at some point though.

We took the path of separation before divorce, which in Colorado requires a 6 month wait before filling a single form to automatically convert the separation to a divorce.

My birthday is a couple of weeks after our six month wait, so I plan to have my divorce day be on my birthday, as a present to myself.

I haven’t hit a year divorced yet but I celebrate every day. Everything I heard from people who went through it was true. It’s hell going through it but life is better on the other side.

I thought I would but it's been 4 months and I don't remember the exact day, mid December is all I remember without looking it up. My first not wedding anniversary just passed and I didn't realize till that night, that was weird.

Everyday is a celebration brother! Even the days when I lament, it brings a smile in the end knowing I totally could have still been caged in a toxic loop of servitude, poor, stressed and powerless to find my own path in the world. Then I do something totally for myself and myself only, and breathe in the sweet success of freedom.

I'm about to get divorced soon. My wife is the one that filed for divorce. Maybe I will be celebrating in the short term, I hope.

How was your life before divorce and how is it now after divorce?

the thought of celebrating the divorce never cross my mind until i realized i was so much happier outside of the marriage so i see it as a day of celebration

I celebrated with friends once it became final, but that was it But I still know our anniversary date, her birthday, stuff like that. Some years I realize it first thing, others not until I look at a calendar. It does get better...or at least easier.

I do take solace in finding out that she's divorced again, after a mutual friend said she described her second marriage as a 20 year bad marriage.

So what I'm I doing here if that was more than 20 years ago? Divorce #2.

Damn straight. 12/18. This’ll be year 2.

Another date I keep track of is 6/26. That’s the anniversary of when I was forcibly evicted from my house under false charges so that my ex wife could have elective cosmetic surgery done on our infant daughter without my consent, in addition to taking a vacation with her family. Not a date I’m fond of remembering. But it’s one I make myself remember, so I never forget what I’m up against if I ever think about getting married again.
