Get a lawyer. This is a disarming tactic. They make sure you are defenseless and try to railroad you with their lawyer like it's in your best interest. Dig in for a fight and browse the rest of the sub for good advice from others. I'm no expert but women are good at manipulation and will trat you like a child no matter what.

Find the best lawyer that you can as quickly as you can. Research them to make sure they're good; at the least, look them up on Google Maps (check the reviews), Yelp, and on Avvo dot com. My brother's a lawyer, and he's the one who told me about Avvo. I just wish he'd told me earlier, because that way I'd have known that my first lawyer was mediocre at best and my second lawyer literally would not do anything to help her male clients.

First consults are often free. If that's the case where you are as well, what could be the harm in finding one now. Have a little chat so if you do need someone you are ready for it and then if you don't need it oh well you're only out an hour of your own time. I wasted more time on reddit today than an hour, at least that would be for something that could potentially really help you.

You need your own lawyer no matter what. You don't want to have to find someone at the last minute. The first consult is normally free, research and talk to a few in the area, get a feel and pick one. You don't even have to put them on retainer; but likely a good idea (you get the left over back).

Remember, her lawyer is NOT your lawyer or the family lawyer. It's her's, and their job is to fuck you over as legally as possible. That's the system. IF she wanted things to be truly fair you would BOTH be at the table in guided mediation.

My ex would be my best friend she even gave me head in the court parking lot , but as soon as we got into court with her lawyer she would turn into my worst enemy straight go for my jugular .I got myself a discounted lawyer from some program at work because I thought we were going to be civil . If your going to court get ready for a fight. Get A good Lawyer thats familiar with the your certain county.you might even want to spend a day at the court house to pick one. Lawyer up! Mine said fair and amicable and then I found myself drafting a restraining order…so many things and emotions to sort through, the lawyer will help you see things in black and white… Be prepared for the cost…I’ve paid for a base model Corolla (to my lawyer) and still going…

Bottom line, watch you back, your bank..take pictures of your house and all your assets asap

Also, start protecting you: change passwords, secure legal documents (passport etc) there’s a lot you need to do, Lawyer will help organize.

You get what you pay for…check reviews; interview the lawyers you pick and be picky!

There are a lot of people that had a bad experience and will tell you to get a lawyer regardless. While you should be on your toes, use your best judgement. I ended up getting a lawyer and we both wasted a ton of money only to side step both expensive ass lawyers. Lawyers are happy to "hate" the other lawyer just to waste time and stir up cost.. We came to an agreement that worked better for both of us. Less child support than my lawyer was bargaining for, etc. Sad thing is it was the same agreement we came to before hand, but I jumped on a lawyer because she had one. Try to come to an agreement to as many things as possible. Or the lawyer will get more than you saved from just not agreeing on some stupid shit.

I'm not saying don't get a lawyer. But figure out your agreements.
