People and businesses profit from weddings and divorces so they want to keep it going. Also, people don’t really care about men’s issues in general and this is one of those things that mainly affects men.

I find that so amazing. One can read thousands of accounts of single men citing biased marriage and divorce practices as a reason to stay single, yet most articles about men staying single completely omit this.

I don’t think for a second most of the authors are so naive to not realize this is a huge factor. I think they simply are choosing to omit relevant information because they don’t want to offend SJWs or get into relevant identity politics.

Added: Society is gynocentric, but part of the bias of gynocentrism is ignoring the bias itself.

Marriage is an ancient contract imposed upon a society in order to make the society more competitive than non-marital societies. More men and more women reproduce in larger quantities than in societies where marriage is non-existent. In addition, it gives the workhorses of a society (men) a purpose that enables superior production compared to the non-marital societies.

As long as the reward (actually being able to reproduce) continues to outweigh the risks (female infidelity/cuckoldry, ability to secure future reproductive opportunity in the event she bails/cheats/etc.) then everyone wins, society grows, you outcompete the other societies, and your culture becomes a superior force.

When that balance is disrupted, the society will inevitably collapse. Penalizing men for marriage and having children is a surefire recipe to obliterate the birthrate and crater your societal progress.

Well people in media don't want to talk about it out of fear of getting canceled. As for everyone else I'm assuming they don't want to bring more light to the situation.

However men ate just not getting married anymore because of it. Literally no guy I know wants to get legally married anymore.

My dad says it's wrong that men consider the likely finacial devastation that comes from divorce.

They/men shouldn’t focus on such things.

It should be about building a good relationship based on love and trust.

Of course in a slightly less toxic world he would be right.

I can't wrap my head around his willful ignorance and/or blindness, especially when he does recognize that 50% of marriages end in divorce.

See it in entertainment media as well. I sat through the first handful of episodes on Sandman on Netflix and (spoiler) lost interest when the episode plot was about a mother unable to gain joint custody of her son because of... well I assume patriarchy. It was just so ridiculous to imagine that in 2015 (the plot year) a mother would be unable to petition the courts to move. I mean I understood the show would have some woke tendencies, but that really broke the ability to suspend disbelief.

There is literally only 1 institution for men to get help in the whole north america. (When last I checked). Vast majority of people who are injured at work are men. Vast majority of sucides are men. 75% of homeless are men. Majority of Men are currently making less than the average wage. Majority of men are treated as disposable.

Why do you think society cares for men at all?

because then that will involve changing it and therefore taking away a 'benefit' of getting married for WOMEN.

Marriage is incentivised for women (I love you but at least I have the bonus or fall back benefit of IF things go bad... I get compensated).

It's the opposite for men.. (I love you and I am willing to put half my shit at least on the line to serve as punishment if things go bad).

Women get rewarded, men get punished. This explains the 80% figure of women initiating divorce (men are more likely to NOT divorce or think about it due to the punishment and conversely.. women are rewarded for the divorce (think better man + money to go with it? HECK YEAH!))

'Society' does not want this to change. That's the reason it is ignored. Like other men's issues (suicide rates, murder victims, less educated, etc) - because it doesn't 'benefit' women to care about men.

Here is the way I see marriage for a man and woman: the men risk half of everything they own and the women are incentivised to divorce their partners because they can get half of the man's assets as well as child support and alimony. I am not sure how common alimony is in the US. There doesn't seem to be a downside to marriage for women when a divorce happens but there is a big possibility of the man losing what he has worked towards. The woman in the marriage can cheat on her husband and be unfaithful and still get half of his assets. Prenups can help but I know that they get thrown out sometimes but I don't know how often that happens.

This is what I thought of in terms of a business contract for person A and person B: Would you (A) sign a business contract where the other person (B) can decide to leave the business on their own and then take half of everything that you (A) own, your house, and that you would have to pay them every month for years after they decide to leave? I am guessing that basically everyone would say that is a terrible deal for you (A) and not worth the risk.

I am not saying don't get married, I am saying that there seems to be a big risk and downside if you get divorced as a man.

We already know this. It's part of ideological plan: A man and a woman should get married, have children, and share the burden of cost for raising a family. That is what marriage is based upon. It has not been acknowledged that divorce is a possibility.

Being married and buying a house all while she barely works part time and I have paid the mortgage for 7 years. Why is it I must give up half because she isn’t happy anymore? Her adult son is 23 and because of drugs is mentally unstable. He punched his biological father in the face two times and has stolen multiple items from my home. He is actually in jail until Tuesday from the last assault. In her eyes he is only lashing out. Still a good boy that needs to behave. My soon to be 14 year old son wants me to get divorced already. He’s over it and so am I. Problem is our life will be dramatically affected by doing so. Stuck in this mess

Men are more damaged from it because women only marry richer men, they know the game and the one paying for everything is the one that earn $1 more.

Just look at Adele divorce settlement where she was the one to pay the ex husband, all women went crazy! Because with all the pink quotas they managed to steal quite a bit of good jobs from men and the pool of richer men shrunk significantly.

You can work, keep all the money, have your own place, spend your free time as you choose. We’re running out of resources for all the babies people keep having. Because it's not true. Everyone knows that.

Women are entitled to get an expensive ring from a man. And then an expensive party paid for her father, a man. Then when divorce happens it's not unfair to men at all. She is entitled to keep the kids and any money that both made in the marriage. And she's entitled to most of what a man ever will make in his lifetime.

This isn't unfair. Women deserve this. Men are happiest when married, everyone knows that. That's why just as many women want a divorced man paying alimony as a fresh new income generator fresh off the assembly line.

No REAL man would ever want anything different. That's what the issue is. Most males on earth today aren't real men who deserve to have a woman they call their own. Of course "their own" only means like, in the most threadbare sense. If she's not allowed to flaunt her tits or abs in public, have tons of guy friends she's touchy-feely with, then you aren't treating her like a person - I mean, she's not your possession after all!

So yea that's why. It's only unfair to the useless majority of men. REAL men can handle women. Those other men need to work harder to be taller. If not than at least low six figures will be okay.

Because there are many other men that are happy to get married.

A friend of mine has refused to get married because of his MGTOW philosophy. But for every friend like that I have about 10 who are married and 3 or 4 who are divorced.

Also for every man I know that is refusing to marry, I know several women who feel the same way. All these "refusing to marry" people just cancel each other out.

While some of what you've said is true, I don't think it's reasonable to claim that falling marriage rates are primarily caused by: a)men in general, and b)men who are worried about legal problems in the future.

Cornell did a study a few years back called "Mismatches in the Marriage Market" which concluded that there is a "large deficit in the supply of potential male spouses" based on what women described as a suitable husband versus the actual demographics of single men.

I would posit that men actually don't stand to lose all that much if they take some pretty basic precautions. I know this sub loves to pick and chose edge cases where rich guys get scammed by their wives but in 99% of relationships you're SO isn't trying to rob you. And even if they were, getting a pre-nup is not an insanely difficult process and can protect a wealthy spouse almost entirely from gold diggers or whatever.

I think that in alot of ways women stand to lose alot from divorce. If you marry a woman at age 25 and she becomes a stay at home mom or a housewife, she is sacrificing the best years of her career to support your family/household. If you were to then divorce her at 35 she would have to enter the workforce ten years late with almost no experience. And obviously not all wives prioritize families over careers in such a drastic way but I'd be willing to bet that this situation is more common than someone unfairly and maliciously trying to sieze all your assets in a divorce. Especially because most divorces are amicable.

Not only do women risk much of their careers in a marriage, they also sacrifice their best dating years. A man does not go from a young stud at 25 to an undateable crone at 40. If you get divorced at 40 as a man and you have a decent job you can find a partner with tremendous ease compared to a woman at the same age, especially if she's had kids.

Women are largely valued for their youth and appearance in dating, which sucks and I wish it wasn't the case but that's the world we live in. Therefore if a woman commits to a relationship in her early or mid 20s she is putting a whole lot more on the line than a man who will continue to progress his career and in many ways become more attractive to women as he ages(to a point of course).

“Men don’t want to risk their wealth, property, and income.” Simple solution: Stop marrying broke women who will take all your shit in an event of a divorce. I don’t understand why everyone seems to gloss over this very easy solution. Find someone who earns about what you do. If not, don’t marry them!
