In June, my ex and I filed for divorce. However, our state requires us to wait a year before finalizing it, and we haven't divided our assets yet. We don't have much except for some financed cars. Recently, I inherited a significant amount of money from my father, whom I was not very close to. He had divorced my mother when I was young and lived abroad until he passed away.

I consulted with my lawyer and she advised me that I only need to provide bank statements and credit card debts up until the date I was served the divorce papers. This means my ex won't see my current account, but my lawyer cautioned me to be careful as my ex could potentially ask for alimony or increased child support. Currently, we share custody of our children and the court hasn't ordered any child support as we both earn the same amount.

My lawyer didn't provide much detail about the potential risks, but did advise me to avoid buying anything flashy that might make my ex suspect I have more money than I'm disclosing. I would like to move to a different state, but I don't want to leave my children behind. Do you have any advice?
