These are fair points in times of peace. These are fair points if everyone on the front lines chose their deployment. But that just isn't how the military works. So if we're talking fair, then what is fair about men being disproportionately at risk of death? I understand female soldiers won't be as strong, and I don't care. They should be just as obligated to be shot at for their country as the man next to them. That, or make combat roles voluntary.

Insightful article with some valid points being raised. While I haven't served in the defence force before, the most common arguments I have heard is that men don't want other people joining combat positions if they cannot meet the standards that everyone has to go through for their roles. Setting different training standards because of a person's gender not only disadvantages squads in the battlefield but can also be detrimental in seriously life threatening situations. There really is no excuse for a mistake in a life and death situation and if your training doesn't make you as equal as the next person sitting next to you, it is unfair not just on your squad mates but also on you that the your job hasn't prepared you for the task on hand.

I actually saw a documentary on th BBC where the women at Camp bastion (I think) were given a shower with a curtain while the men had to shower naked in front of the women.

Also there was a woman in a mans barracks (a gunner) and she had curtains around her bed but the boys were all in the open. She stated that she regularly saw them all naked.

I think that if women can make the cut, there should be no restrictions on their service. That said, the qualifications should not be lowered, but nor should they be elevated to exclude women who met the qualifications.

As for "modesty" - both genders should realize that goes out the door. As a former Marine myself, my entire plantoon was made to strip naked, in the field, and take a canteen shower. Women will have to do it as well.

Well, if equality is the goal of feminism, then let men be moved to the rear, women to the fore, and let women fight all the battles. Let men be removed from the draft and replaced by 18 year old women, and allow all that to continue for a couple hundred years, at which point we will have achieved equality.

Also let stay-at-home husbands win all the divorce cases and keep everything plus half the income of all female warriors, even if they cheat on the women warriors while they're deployed and under fire.

Btw, I do agree that men and women should be judged according to the same standard, which would probably not leave many women in combat roles, so maybe the only difference would be an intellectual one, but I still think that's important. I also think soldiers in more dangerous roles should be paid more (I'm not in a country with much of an army, so I'm not sure if this happens).

Article starts off strong, but by the half way point she's dropping increasingly weak shit into it.

Repealing don't ask don't tell is damaging? Bullshit. And then the appeal to emotion with the story about the autistic boy's mother getting wounded? What if she'd been killed? Well, that's just straight up 'fathers don't matter as much as mothers'.

It's a shame the latter half of the article seems to be nothing more than conservative shit, because the first half of it was on the ball, no bullshit, fact after fact about the reality of women's physical capability in comparison to men.

I don't really care if women want to serve in front line combat roles. They can do whatever they want. What I don't want is a woman sitting in a foxhole next to me in a crisis. They MUST be in a segregated unit. They destroy unit cohesion just by their very presence. It's not their fault , it's human nature. This is no new thing either...we've known since the dawn of time that two men will eventually fight over one woman if you stick them all alone in a room together for long enough.

As long as they can do whatever is expected of men then I have no problem at all with women serving in combat roles. They should not serve directly with the men though and the same applies in reverse. We can't have any men in all-female units either.

I'm betting one higher up said to another after having contemplated a successful but high risk drone strike "if only our men would take ludicrous near suicidal orders like that and execute them down to the letter" and then was handed the classified project white knight folder detailing how women can be used in combat. Putting women in is just an extension of the drone strike program. It's going to be Vietnam all over again now, no questions asked. Shit like this village is misogynistic and killed some of our finest women. And then the murderous rampage of white knights is lit up murdering innocent civilians. It's getting out of control and unamerican. It's also only going to make men look bad. We always end up blamed for everything.

So then... women shouldn't be drafted, because on average there's almost no chance for them to qualify, so they'll just get more people killed by holding them back and getting into messy relationships.

Or do we still want women to be signed up for the draft for some reason? I'm confused about which way we're leaning today.
