This is a parody of a list of "how not to get raped" tips that have been circulating on email for over a decade, and now circulate on Facebook. If you had received that infuriating list dozens of times from well-meaning friends and relatives, you might find the parody cathartic in the same way that I do.

Telling people not to break the law really does work. The crime rate isn't the same everywhere. Unless you think people are destined to be criminals or upright citizens from birth, and nothing in their culture or environment will change that, you surely agree with this.

That doesn't mean it's not the same simply because we did or didn't tell them not to break the law.
People weigh costs and benefits to their actions. The benefit/cost ratio for a given crime is higher in some areas than others.

I don't think there's anything wrong with reminding people of the law, and the fact that breaking it will get you punished.
I think it's very wrong to only remind certain subgroups of people, and treat those groups as if they are the only criminals.

I think it goes further than that. It highlights the issue of thinking that people have no ability or responsibility for managing risks. This does a great disservice to people by giving them a false sense of security and removing their agency.

It depends on the culture, I grew up in a place where it was normal to leave a key in the front door.
In places I lived later on with more crime culture this would be seen as "asking for it".

True, but in the western hemisphere, especially in Canada and the UK, the information we receive on rape has reached saturation point for men. The statistics show that the vast majority of rapes are now committed by a small minority of serial rapists with no empathy and no guilt, and all this "don't rape" bullshit won't get them to change their minds.
In fact, it has been suggested that this sort of publication can actually help these rapists as it sets in the mind of women that most rapes are one off, semi-acccidental occurrences that are performed by men that don't really understand what they're doing. This gives the serial rapist an easy way to exploit a woman's compassion to get her to not report the rape, thus allowing him to continue.
Furthermore, it's fucking insulting to have society insinuate that I'm a horrific sexual deviant and an immoral monster that can't control his urges simply because I have a pair of testicles!

The analogy doesn't work, men don't have it drilled into them to always be watching their drinks and not walk alone because murder in the first place.

The analogy works fine because it's illustrating the lunacy that people have zero responsibility or capability to manage the risks of becoming a victim. Culpability for victimizing others is separate from that.

The list is meant to say "criminals are the ones responsible for crime", which completely ignores that the original list to which the linked was a response to was illustrating the ways in which people were managing risks.
Who is told what and how often has no bearing on how apt the analogy is, because the analogy is only comparing things it has in common, not all elements.

They have been trying to stop people giving rape prevention tips out based on the idea that it typically happens in a Hollywood story line scenario, lone girl, short skirt wrong part of town.
Anyway, why care so much?
That doesn't mean those tips are misleading, just that the list is non-exhaustive.
I care about reducing rape, which includes understanding what affects the chances of it happening.
Criminals need means, motive, and opportunity. You can't really control people's motives, but people can control means and opportunity. Feminists ignore this and focus only on mostly thinking they can control motive. Controlling opportunity would mean treating people as adults with agency and a realistic view of the world.

Are you really asking "why don't you go to a forum that agrees with me?"?
We are not a rape prevention forum, I don't know why we are so hung up on rape tips and those deliberately inflammatory memes.
One need not have a specific focus on a topic to have valid arguments on that topic.
Our specific focus in this regard seems to be perpetual confusion about those inflammatory memes and rape prevention tips meanwhile, they publish misinformation about rape stats and threaten mens rea aka - something that is actually important to us - while we talk about largely inconsequential internet memes and saving women from rape by giving them patronizing tips.

I understand that this is supposed to be a "joke", but when it would've been so easy to just replace "woman" with "person" and make it gender neutral it really shows the bias present.
At least they made the perpetrator ambivalent, but would it have really been so hard to admit that men can be raped too? It would've made these "safety tips" far more acceptable if it had made even the slightest effort not to perpetuate the "women as the only victims" trope.

My brother-in-laws ex-girlfriend tried to claim he raped her. We didn't believe her because she's been trying to put him in jail for years since he left her. The day after she made those claims she went out to a club and called him, saying that she missed him and wanted him back. When he said no, she went to the prosecuting attorneys office to press charges on him for "rape". It was thrown out.
She's a fucking disgrace to womankind, and one of the reasons why I'm a woman who is NOT a feminist. Women try to claim oppression, but honestly.. we all know who are the ones truly oppressed.

I hate the "stranger dangers" culture. If that was a lost kid in the mall, s/he would be perfectly safe with me or the starbucks baristo, or the bored guy standing outside of Victoria's secret. Rather than teach them to ask for help, we teach them to stay alone. And we teach perfectly safe adults to stat away from children lest we be shunned as creeps, when the people that would hurt a kid couldn't care less about that therefore it only keeps safe people away.

What's sad is that it has created the dangerous situation that it was intended to prevent.
Today if a kid is willing to talk to strangers, they actually are most at risk just because they're the only kid who does it. And like you said, it keeps normal people away, and teaches them not to interact with others - even including situations that look sketchy.

I don't see the logic in this, and people who are all against victim blaming, and all that shit.
These kinds of messages are obviously not used because someone who's evil enough to rape isn't going to see a sign with this and go, "Huh, guess I should stop raping people!"
While on the other hand, if you have shit like "Don't walk the streets late at night, alone." and "Don't leave your drink unattended", then that can (and has) influence people to be safer.
