Reading Laura Doyle's "The Surrendered Wife". She talks about relinquishing control of shared duties. I don't live with my bf so we have virtually no shared duties, but he's expressed interest in driving my car. However I have had a license and a car for 6 years. I know how to do most maintenance for my car. He hasn't driven since he got his license, and he has no car. The two times he drove my car he got into minor accidents. It's not that he drives too quickly or has no consideration of others, rather, he drives far below the speed limit and is quite a dreamer so he doesn't notice some surroundings.

What should I do?

My current idea is to slowly 'create' shared responsibilities to hand to him, such as caring for my dog when I can't be home, or step by step planning a shared future. When I was a new driver I got into a few minor accidents myself. I would prefer he gets his own car at first, but he seemed offended when I expressed this.
