(I'm a 50 y.o. wife, mother of a blended family of 4 boys & 2 girls and a Licensed Professional Counselor for 25 years.)

Backstory: I've counseled hundreds of adolescents and adults over the years and I've become known as the "therapist that works best with 'difficult' men" (reserved, resistant, angry, entitled, dejected, etc.) So, I have leaned into this "aptitude" (?) over the years.

Recently (prompted by turning the big 5-0, probably ;), I began thinking about how I might help a wider audience of men improve their mental health using my experience, education, insights, etc. As I was formulating my thoughts, I talked to my male clients and they were overwhelmingly supportive. Someone suggested I join Reddit or Quora and go straight to my "intended audience" for feedback about my "mission." So, I joined and naively posted in a few places about my interest in improving men's mental health and advancing an awareness of some of the unique issues and struggles men face. Essentially, would this be of value? I was UN-prepared for what happened next.

I did received some thoughtful and kind support from some. BUT I had also unintentionally agitated two very angry "bee hives" - Men who were angry that a woman was talking about men's issues & Women who were angry that a woman was talking about men's issues. I have never been attacked from both sides before! I was both accused of being a misandrist that wants to "create more weak men that women can take advantage of" AND accused of having repressed, internalized misogyny if I question anything about feminism. WHAT THE???!?!!?

I feel like a woman without a home for the first time in my life. (I had always considered myself a feminist - fighting for equal rights - until two weeks ago.) It feels confusing and lonely and I guess I am trying to figure out -- where in the heck do I belong? Does anyone see the world the way that I see it and believe in what I believe in?? I have been SO naive to the depth/breadth of the war waging beyond my shores between women's rights and men's rights that I am questioning- WHAT DO I DO NOW??

I'm at a crossroads and trying to figure out... do I just quit my ridiculous idea of trying to help men by speaking up for and to men (maybe it just does more harm?) OR do I find/define my unique (& female) voice even clearer and proceed into what I'm seeing as a war zone with lots of flying shrapnel? The only people that can help me decide are men. You guys. I have quickly realized that I can't go into this "war" without a plan, strategies, and support.

(I went looking around and found this subreddit. I read your rules, mission statement, and some threads and (so far) it feels the most closely aligned with what I see and believe. Thus, my angst-filled post goes here. Sorry! ;)
