Especially with men. We're too down to earth to not be honest. I mean, what kind of simple creature can spend literal hours in the company of male friends without saying a word, yet is complex enough to casually hide the fact that they're cheating by putting their phone down screen first? They fact that a women's first thought is that he's cheating on her says more about her than it does about him. I do it both for that reason and the fact the first smartphone I got the glass over the camera shattered within the first 3 hours of me opening it (stupidly designed phone + stupidly designed case x stupid me = broken camera) so now I put it camera up, learned the hard way you can't fix that but can easily either replace a screen protector or replace a screen.

I’m trying to train myself to do it now bc I broke the camera glass on my iPhone somehow without realizing it with no other damage and it basically led to ruining my iPhone XS through a series of events.
Edit in case anyone was wondering. Broke the camera glass, Apple won’t fix it without replacing the whole back. I bought cheap replacement camera glass which breaks often but is cheap and easy to replace. Eventually got dust in the camera lens which put smudges on my photos so I took it to a repair place to replace the camera and got it back and “by coincidence” (they won’t take responsibility) the logic board (if your phone was a car it would be your engine) went out almost immediately after I got it back.

The only thing that happened to me in this phone-down scenario that I can say-
My brother asked me to lunch one day, set his phone face-down, and began asking me all kinds of deep and personal questions about my then failing, now completely cut off, relationship with his mother.
He had recorded the whole thing and let her hear it, and she tried to use my "sick" opinions against me later. (She was, and is, manipulative and selfish in every way you could think possible)
I was devastated that he did it to me, and now I refuse to discuss anything serious with him unless we're in a situation where he cant possibly be recording (like on a car-ride when he has his GPS on the dash)

Nah, most people can't handle a full on rant from me. I have a VERY colorful vocabulary and tend to use it more and more as I get emotional. When I'm ranting at someone, I'm doing everything in my power to hurt them as much as possible, because I'm coming from a place of pure anger and hatred. And since I have so much of both, I tend to keep that side of myself away from the general public. I may be harsh, but I'm not a complete asshole. I don't so anything unless given a reason to do it, so I don't blindly lash out at someone unless they've worked VERY hard to upset me. It's near impossible to get me angry, and only after more than a week of constant abuse. What you saw was me being passionate about something, not angry. If I were angry, I'd be cussing and hurling insults at someone who's been disrespectful to me.

Okay so thanks for posting that, nice read. I agree. But I’m curious about the your reality consists of part. So I’m on a mandatory vacation cause my idiot roommate went to his gfs family gathering and potentially endangered me and my bf who live there.
So we’re out in a small town trying to lay low. There’s a River right next to us where kids and parents and old peeps are all maskless and having a hoot.
There was a rope swing and I wanted to jump in, so I asked to borrow it. I did it once and then we decided to leave cause it was so many people and the risk was making us anxious.
I feel like I slipped up and broke my own ethics code, I should have saw the kids and just went home but I’ve been hiding for 6 months now and I just wanted to swing into a river.
It’s in the past, all I can do is move on and do better next time, no need to beat myself up.
But the cognitive dissonance is so hard. Like in my natural reality I enjoy small interactions w kids and people in general. It was fun to have them watch me and get excited when I jumped in. But I am so mad at all these people not wearing masks. And so my reality becomes everyone is an asshole not wearing masks.
So am I making my own reality a living hell by having no faith in humanity? If it’s up to me to decide how good people are, but all I see are people ignoring a pandemic, thus making people in general not good. Then will I ever lead a fulfilling life?
Do I just ignore my inherent fear and anger to those I feel are being assholes? You say people cannot grasp critical thinking, but if we decide our own reality then shouldn’t we have it in our minds the general public can grasp critical thinking?
I guess my own solution would be to let it be like seasons. I’ve had many seasons of love for my fellow human. I think I’m gonna spend a few seasons jaded and scared of humans. Maybe in 2025 I’ll try trusting humanity again idk.

May I introduce you into the wonderful world of flip cases? Official ones like that are the best, ignore the pockets and shit, never get a latched one.
They protect the screen from pocket scratches, damage, etc. They also help you hang onto the phone one handed.
For what it's worth I drove over a OnePlus One with a flip case, in a forklift maybe 3 years ago, and it just needed a new screen protector. The screen and phone were fine.
I personally will never own a phone without a flip case, if for no other reason than I can pretend to angerly hang up on people. I can't smash it on a receiver like a landline, but I can slam it shut like an old flip phone!

I've read that stronger magnets can interfere with the OIS of the camera, but those were for magnet mounts where the magnet is strong enough to hold your phone up. The magnetic latches I've seen have been much weaker.
Also, not all latches are magnets; they can be snap buttons or velcro.

I consider my phone (and my computer) personal property along the lines of a journal. There is access to all kinds of personal information, both in browser history and all my local apps, storage, etc.
There's no need for anyone to have access to any of that. It's the same reason I don't hesitate to stop installing an app if I don't like the permissions it requests. This is my personal business.
I am not required to loan anybody my phone or computer. I keep the screen covered when not in use because it's my personal business. I limit alerts (especially ones that show any blurb) because it's my personal business. I don't use my phone during social events where I'm not alone - movies, meals, meetings. I don't ask others "hey who's texting you?" or "what's going on" when they dive into their phone. It's not my business. If someone wants to share, they will.
I'm not doing anything wrong, nor should there be any concern. People are just nosy fucks and don't know how to mind their own business. I used to just be guarded but hand my phone over - too many assholes started nosing through stuff. It's my personal business, I never gave permission for that. My personal business is just that, personal. Nobody else has any right to that, nor do they need it. I am open with my family and a few close friends, but that doesn't give them carte blanche over my personal devices.

I'm a big stickler about not using phones at the dinner table. I often take it out of my pocket because sometimes it's uncomfortable to sit down with it in my pocket, but I still like it face down as this post suggest, meals aren't the time for phone.

I did this with an older phone that automatically was set to DND whenever you placed it like this on a table. When I changed phone after that one I just started keeping it in my pocket.

I've stopped carrying mine everywhere with me since we all stopped going to work all the time. It fits in my work clothes, but it doesn't fit in the pockets of all my casual clothes. I don't always want to lug a bag with me, and so either it lives in my hand and I have to carry it constantly (which is fine if you are walking across the street but irritating on a hike, or at the beach, or walking a dog, or anything that actually requires the use of hands), or it has to exist in some kind of imaginary hammerspace. I've realised I don't need it, nobody actually needs to get hold of me that quickly from my point of view nor do I want them to - more precisely I can actually reclaim that time as "unavailable to contact" which is incredibly liberating.
People look at you funny when you say "Oh no I left my phone at home" but I'm really starting to enjoy the feeling of freedom.

Idk about others but sitting with my phone in my pocket makes me very uncomfortable. It makes my thigh sweat in the shape of the phone. The phone also presses into my thigh and I constantly feel like that’ll crack my screen.
