Obviously they don''t take into account that the act of suicide is not said to be only done by men. While sexual assault are gendered in the way that it happens to women because of men.

The difference is that men are raped at near equal rates as women but almost all the focus is pulled away from men and put on women.

Men commit suicide (IIRC) 9 times as often as women but probably only get equal consideration to women, if even that.

The proportion of harm in either scenario does not play out in society in terms of the proportion of attention that it gets.

The vast majority of men don't even think men get raped in appreciable numbers and that it is exclusively a women's issue when it isn't a joke about men getting raped in prisons.

False equivalence between talking about sexual assault and talking about suicide:

"Me too" is considered a useful and compassionate thing to say to someone who is stating they are a victim of sexual assault.

"Me too" is not at all a useful and compassionate thing to say to someone who is contemplating suicide.

For just about anything I say, a woman has told me some variation of "but women...".

Side story: I once had a woman (my friends wife) compare her child birth to my vasectomy. We were at a wedding and she brought it up. She went into how she felt bad for me. How it makes her sad that I won't raise a child. I told her that I'm sorry she feels "sorry" for me, and that maybe if I had to carry a baby inside me for 9 months. I might feel more of an inclination towards parenting. I was trying to see her side and sympathize or whatever.

A few moments later, she is fuming. I'm unaware of her glare at me, as I was watching the bride and groom from afar. Suddenly I hear "Oh, really? you think YOU could carry a baby for 9 months! I was sick during the entire pregnancy". I turn my gaze from the bride and groom and I'm thinking (man she is mad with someone). I realize she's speaking to me and I look over at her confused. She continues, "THEY CUT 8lbs OUT OF ME! 8 POUNDS! All you had was some little snip".

I then say "Wait...did you just compare childbirth to a vasectomy? I wasn't comparing anything. I know I don't know what pregnancy feels like. I was saying, I can understand why a woman might feel a closer attachment towards becoming a mother. Since she actually has the baby growing in her".

She responds "Yeah, whatever. Men just get some tiny snip, but women deal with so much more". I finally stood up from the table and walked away. I was confused and mad, but now the story just makes me laugh.

maybe its because men being raped happens at same rates as women being raped so thats where the it happens to men too

Oh yeah this is such a strawman. It is so common to hear "wElL WoMeN AtTeMpT iT mOrE" as if that means a damn thing.

Many hospitals consider cutting and other self harm to be "suicide attempts" so because women are more likely to do such and usually choose less sure fire lethal methods (overdosing versus a noose) the statistic is artificially inflated.

And this doesnt even consider how many men have "attempted it" as in had the knife/gun to their head/throat but thought differently at the last second. I know 3 men in my life who found themselves in such a situationvand I know for a fact none of them would ever admit to it.

Sexual assault against men is brought up when talking about sexual assault against women in general, not when some girl says she was assaulted.

When men talk about male suicide, women are silent(except feminists, who downplay it), Politicians are silent, media is silent. Its highly dependent from woman to woman if you bring up say, your thoughts on killing yourself, you have a 50/50 chance of them either just bailing, or actually listening. A lot do say 'women attempt more', but thats not actually true, many of the 'attempts' women do are not actual attempts, they are cries for help and either they don't actually intend to die, or they are saved(they tell people and they come save em, etc). There have been actual instances of women attempting, then they accidentally die, because they were not saved.

Basic empathy would be treating problems men have with the same weight as a woman's problems. But we know, down to a scientific fact, thats not the case.

Because the figures for sexual assault are so close and when you factor in prison rape they dwarf the female stats yet for suicide they are miles apart no matter how they try and cook the books
