It's basically saying that her paranoia is our fault which is complete bullshit

[–]EvilLothar 53 points54 points55 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

These women are so delusional they don't figure that an Uber driver that is going to kidnap her doesn't know how to work a vacuum...

[–]Brushean 43 points44 points45 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Or that they ordered a ride on the app. Or that their credit card is tied to their account, and the app, and the ride they ordered. Or that Uber can directly link the ride ordered to the driver. Or that Uber has copies of the drivers license, registration, and insurance.

[–]EvilLothar 7 points8 points9 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

None of that is actual proof that the woman got into the car. He can say he showed up, but never picked her up, or she wasn't there. AND THEN MURDER HER....

But, he can't work a vacuum... yea. I don't know what kind of mental gymnastics they have to do to think like this.

[–]5th_Law_of_Robotics 88 points89 points90 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Sounds like untreated mental illness.

[–]MisterDSTP 27 points28 points29 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Most of the fuckery we see lately is smh

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The extreme feminists and leftists in general (people like Lena Dunham, not reasonable people like Christina Sommers and Malala) tend to exploit mentally ill (usually from trauma) people by fueling their paranoia and depression (hating the world and feeling hopeless).

I also blame social media. Fake news and fictional stories are shared tens of thousands of times on Facebook, and often they are irrational warnings about men wanting to kidnap their children etc

eg A woman once thought 2 men were following her at Ikea so wrote up a detailed post on Facebook about how "her kids could have been kidnapped and trafficked" to warn other parents of the risk of traffickers wanting to abduct their kids in broad daylight. Which was then shared tens of thousands of times and getting women all over becoming irrationally paranoid over nothing, and of course used as "evidence" by feminists of how terrible men are.

https://trafficking17.wordpress.com/2017/04/08/facebook-status-gone-viral/

https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/california-ikea-trafficking/

[–]WolfeBane84 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Anyone ever find out if there were really two dudes even near her in the store?

Also, what kind of fuckwit human trafficker does their product sourcing at fucking IKEA of all places?

[–]huxepenner 6 points7 points8 points 6 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

" what kind of fuckwit human trafficker does their product sourcing at fucking IKEA of all places?"

Answer: None of them.

The woman who made that Facebook post also gave "advice" to other parents on how to prevent becoming a victim of trafficking. The post went so viral it caught the attention of trafficking experts who basically said she had given bad advice and, asides from causing so much unnecessary panic and paranoia, had done more harm than good with her misleading advice.

Chances are there probably were 2 guys in IKEA at the time looking for a new table or something, and were probably confused why a woman in front of them kept turning round to look at them. As for "following" her it is worth noting that the way IKEA works is it has a one-way system, all customers need to walk round each floor in the same direction.

[–]Gundabadguy 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Search for furniture and kids.

[–]eldred2 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's absurd on it's face, considering that the layout of IKEA stores is designed specifically so that everyone follows the same path.

[–]w1g2 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I like how women have no problem bringing up all of the supposedly million things they do to try to protect themselves from kidnapping or murder in their daily lives, but the second anyone tries to give them advice about preventing rape: "OMG there is nothing a woman can ever do to prevent rape, you victim blaming scum! It's men's responsibility to prevent rape, not women's."

[–]RIPOldAccountF 20 points21 points22 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I never used uber but wouldnt they know you were there because when you order your uber it shows what car is matched with you that picks you up?

[–]Diesel-66 8 points9 points10 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Correct but

Big issue is verifying the driver is the actual Uber you called for. Some gypsie cabs are just grabbing drunk people and charging them $$$. Potential for kidnapping too

[–]wwstewart 10 points11 points12 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It's been a while, but last time I checked Uber does have a photo system in place to randomly check the drivers and verify that they are who they say they are. Plus the app used to show a picture of the driver to the passenger.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It tells the license plate too.

[–]snipper144 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Just don’t get shit waster simple.

[–]huxepenner 19 points20 points21 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

This is the state women are in after taking a Women's Studies course or if they become a feminist and spend all their time reading feminist books and on online feminist forums. They develop paranoia and possible delusions that everytime they go out there will be a man lurking to rape or kidnap them, to the extent that it becomes mental illness.

The woman who posted that sounds like she should be on medication.

[–]Oncefa2 8 points9 points10 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I remember a while back reading about the myth that the police don't take rape allegations seriously. It was stopping women who were actually raped from seeking help, because they were believing everything that they saw from SJWs and feminists on the topic (who claim that they're trying to help women instead of stoking outrage).

Actual women's group started stepping up and debunking these claims to urge women to go to the police. It was not only a false / ridiculous claim, but it was causing actual harm in the real world.

I wish I still had the links from all that just because of how ridiculous it was.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Christina Hoff Sommers has a great series of videos about this.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They don’t cause mental illness they take advantage of those who already have it

[–][deleted] 43 points44 points45 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Simple: don't voluntarily get into a car with a complete stranger at the wheel!

[–]mherm79 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Yes there are much safer options. I’m a 40yo male and the idea of Uber doesn’t sit right with me, would rather spend a few extra bucks and know the person picking me up has had a level of rigour applied to their licensing

[–]WolfeBane84 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

What is the extra rigor that the average traditional cabby has that an uber driver doesn't?

[–]mherm79 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Maybe I’m just old school, but in Aus I like the fact they are licensed with the cabby id in the car and the protective screening.

[–]WolfeBane84 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I mean in the US regular cabbies and uber both have the same things. Uber just doesnt have a placard in the car with the information, but they do have the picture of your driver thing on the app and both companies have records of everyone who drives for them.

[–]tragedyfish 14 points15 points16 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

When someone uses Uber, their phone's location and the driver's location are tracked. This is part of the terms of service that must be agreed to when installing the app. If the driver fails to deliver the passenger, stays in the same location for an extended time, or takes a convoluted route, Uber knows. Additionally, most drivers have a camera in the car. For the safety of the driver and the passenger. The stupidest time that one could choose to assualt, kidnap, etc., someone would be when they are employed as an Uber driver.

[–]trseeker 11 points12 points13 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

As always they believe that their insanity is the fault of men.

[–]Mens_rights_matter2 20 points21 points22 points 6 years ago* (7 children) | Copy Link

Shit like this actually pisses me off. Men are 89% more likely to be the victim of a violent crime. It seems like women are 89% more likely to worry about shit that doesn't affect them at all/s. When is the last time you have heard of a grown ass woman you know getting kidnapped?

[–]jp_mra 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I do wonder if one reason women are less likely to be a victim is because they are so paranoid about it.

[–]Mens_rights_matter2 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Its probably most likely because most men ,even the bad ones, have a proclivity to protect women.

These are all in the last few weeks, so last time I heard about a grown woman being abducted was quite recently

[–]Oncefa2 19 points20 points21 points 6 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link

That is partially the result of something called "missing white girl syndrome". The media is much more likely to care about a white girl going missing than they are for boys and for minority women (there's a section about this in The Reference Book of Men's Issues that's linked in the sidebar).

I'm not sure what the stats are for the victims, but the abductor is much more likely to be a woman than to be a man. And that I do have stats / references for.

[–]antilopes 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

That statistic is utterly irrelevant to this discussion. Female abductors are more common in custody dispute kidnappings of their own children. Abductions of unrelated people unconnected to child custody arguments are almost exclusively perpetrated by males.

[–]Oncefa2 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Do you have any evidence of that? I mean I wouldn't be surprised if that were the case. But I also don't think it's that common in general.

The danger of being kidnapped is so low that even snopes has an article "debunking" the disproportionate hysteria that you find around this topic.

[–]antilopes 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It does depend what country you are in. In some 2nd and 3rd world countries the collection of girls and women for sex trafficking is a big thing and is very much women's work. Quite possibly they collect the boys too.

So far as I know in the first world abduction of random local women for sex trafficking is rare, it would be stupidly risky when foreign women are so much more manipulable. I've seen some crazy numbers that look like hysterical propaganda and I think I saw that Snopes article on it.

The kind of abduction OP refers to does happen for isolated cases of rape etc, and those are exclusively by men.

[–][deleted] 16 points17 points18 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Except... men literally get killed far more frequently than women

[–]antilopes 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Not by Uber drivers, or by fake Uber drivers.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Which isn’t the important part. She randomly brings up uber to make the argument that women are more likely to be killed and therefore justified in worrying about it more

[–]antilopes 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

She does not make the argument women are more likely to be killed.

She points out an Uber does not feel safe to some women, and that men are often oblivious to their own relative freedom from some risks.

Here is another thing many men are oblivious to. Men generally have a much higher tolerance for risk. We didn't do anything to earn it, it isn't an accomplishment and it has some terrible downsides e.g. the carnage men cause on the roads. I'd guess it is likely associated with testosterone. Anyway, the guys criticising women for being overly sensitive to risk relative to themselves could think about that.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No point in debating it because it’s pointless. The fact is that she’s essentially saying “check your privilege” when it comes to being worried about being murdered when it’s statistically far more likely to happen to men.

They’re not oblivious to it. Men, especially MRAs, are aware of this, but feminists are not. The problem is that feminists (other than “TERFs”) completely ignore biological reality of mental differences between the genders, and men’s tolerance for risk is far down a very long list of important differences between men and women that feminists are refusing to accept. The whole point of the men’s rights movement is to force feminists to not be hypocrites with their own ideology - by pointing out the ways in which men can be considered disadvantaged. In reality though, MRAs and feminists are both “wrong” if you take their ideologies at face value, because trying to achieve any sort of true equality between the genders is idiotic and ultimately impossible. Men and women are, and always will be, biologically different. The feminist denial of this reality is what has destroyed the West.

[–]ChocolatePanzer 8 points9 points10 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That woman is a lunatic.

[–]AbysmalDescent 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't understand how someone can even make the argument that men never go missing or that men never have anything to fear, especially against the reality that men face far more physical violence or threats of violence than women do.

I don't understand how someone could actually make this argument that her personal insanity, or delusional fear, is somehow men's fault or responsibility.

Also, in this day and age of digital tracking, I don't really think dropping a strand of hair is going to accomplish much that her phone or uber hiring practices wouldn't have already solved. If she was to be kidnapped, what would that one strand of hair even accomplish? At best, the police find the car and confirm that she was, indeed, kidnaped in that car(which they already knew); at worse, wouldn't the kidnapper in her insane scenario just disposes of the car or destroy the evidence in some way or another(because DNA is everywhere, not just hair).

Nothing about this makes any sense.

[–]OrionTheWolf 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So has the meaning of privileged become not being paranoid?

[–]yeehawdolphins 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Why in the fuck would you take a god damned uber then? God these women are fucking nuts

[–]antilopes 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

People have lives, they like to go out and do things. But there is risk. But they wanna do stuff. So they take the risk.

[–]yeehawdolphins 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If someone is pulling their hair out incase they get kidnapped in a car, moving or working on your own brain is probably a better thing to do with your time

[–]Lion_amongst_gods 5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So you're saying... Women are culturally appropriating people with schizophrenia and somehow I'm supposed to feel bad?

[–]shadowguyver 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

As a Uber driver I am subjected to random checks using my camera to make sure it is me that is using the app, background checks often and have to have my real first name and picture on the profile. Passengers however do not have to use real names or post a picture, nor is it always the person whose account is being used that is the passenger.

I am more at risk. A passenger was talking about how scary it is to be a passenger I told her about how I was sexually assaulted by a female passenger and she laughed asking "what did she do, pull out her penis?" She was still laughing while attempting an apology. She received a low rating.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I do feel privileged that I'm not a paranoid psychotic.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I’m a paranoid schizophrenic and I’m sane compared to this person

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Being self aware is 3/4ths the battle

[–]username001776 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Bruh this is so cringey

[–]MalusMalorum 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

...it is really interesting how when you actually look at people you know, you hardly ever find those general attitudes about always having to take those mostly rather pointless "security measures".

...and strangely, at the same time, we get those stories about solo female travelers in countries that are actually warranting a certain level of basic safety precautions which said travelers ignore...

Almost like those whole laundry lists of things women apparently always do are maybe not a woman thing but rather a crazy feminist thing?

[–]drpepper02 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well that’s feminists logic, women have no responsibilities for their own safety, just do what ever you want.

Don't use an uber then.

[–]McFeely_Smackup 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

so these women claim they are terrified of getting kidnapped...but they get into the Uber anyway.

that's either the behavior of a sick mind, or someone highly exaggerating their actual concern.

the only clear takeaway is some women are pathologically paranoid about extremely unlikely risks, risks that men are actually at more danger of but pay less concern to.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

if she's so worried about not being safe why doesn't she find herself a man? that's what the male/female dynamic is for in nature. Humans often forget they are animals.

Well

I grant that some women feel very unsafe and I'm sorry for that.

I don't agree that I'm privileged for it, I mean I've felt unsafe at various points in my life too.

Here's hoping that everybody gets to feel safer in life.

[–]Svenskbtch 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Perhaps a parallel to this paranoid version of an understandable reaction is men recording sexual encounters (or asking partners to sign contracts or other things along those lines). Is that the fault of women as a group? I hope few would claim that (though I know some might).

In fact, I would prefer it not only that women became a bit less paranoid, but also that men became a bit more cautious about exposing themselves to danger, be it violence or false accusations or job loss.

[–]didnotreddit12 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Should've not hotboxed in the bloody Uber.

[–]boringcarpets 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

Into an uber, not a minicab, but an uber. For those who have two braincells to rub together the difference is a minicab is just a car that can be hailed, anyone can drive them, no tracking, might not even be legit. an uber is tracked by app, user, driver, destination, pick up, card details, times etc etc. These women are thick as pig shit. If you're that worried about getting into the car.... don't get in the fucking car, jesus where is the common sense or agency?

[–]drpepper02 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Might I suggest she ride the bus?

[–]boringcarpets 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sexual assault isn't as gendered as you think (the most recent data shows it literally being 50/50). And men in general are more likely to be the victims of violence. I get that women are weaker and more cautious than men but let's be honest about what the facts are.

I'm interested in your source because I haven't seen anything saying that before

Sure, and I can absolutely understand people not being aware of this.

The problem is that most of our sexual assault laws were written by feminists and are therefore gendered. Usually the crime is defined in terms of penetration, so unless a man is "sodomized" by a woman, the assault usually isn't considered rape in the technical legal sense of the word. So if you look at just people who are in jail for sexual assault, you're going to find mostly men, and mostly female victims.

There is some research into the prevalence of sexual assault against men though. And that picture looks a whole lot different than what criminal statistics show on the surface.

According to the latest CDC data that tracks both sexual assault in the traditional / legal sense, and "forced to penetrate" (rape against men), men are equally likely to be raped. And something like 79% of men who are raped, are raped by women.

What's also interesting is if you ask people point blank if they've ever forced someone to have sex with them against their will, 48% of people who say yes, are women. And this percentage is very close to what data from both the CDC, the BJS, and other sources show.

Here are a few to get you started:

Here is a less "scholarly" analysis done by an MRA for data from 2010-2012:

New CDC data again finds as many (if not more) male victims of female rapists than female victims of male rapists. CDC continues to ignore its own shocking findings. On "forced-to-penetrate" often not included in rape statistics:

And women generally getting away with sexual assault more often than men:

I'm more than welcome to continue this discussion and answer any questions you might have about it. I know it's a lot of sources to go through (you don't have to look at all of them) but there is a lot of ground to cover when it comes to this topic, in part because awareness about it is such a big problem.

I've seen a lot of those statistics. I think you are missing the point.

According to particular definitions men get raped by women about as often as the reverse. So what? Why should anyone care?

Most people care about rape because it often severely damages people. Not because some technical or legal definition is met and we can put a tick on the male or female team for each incident, and puff ourselves up with indignance to score points in an argument. Indignance is not trauma, and pretending the equivalence of that sort of thing is why ordinary people often feel such revulsion for MRAs.

The annual prevalence surveys use description-based questions which are well known to be overly sensitive in some cases. For some questions quite a lot of respondents did not see their own experience as rape for various reasons, though it fit the description. This is particularly the case with intimate partner incidents and hookups.

Annual prevalence as measured by e.g. NCVS and NISVS gives no clues to severity or frequency. Technical severity is only loosely connected to damage, and there is no reason to expect that men and women's reactions will be the same. On the contrary, there are strong reasons to expect it is not.

NISVS finds male victims report about a third to a quarter of the prevalence of a bunch of signs and symptoms relating to severity, PTSD and chronic stress.

There are plenty of other indicators suggesting the bottom line is that women take a vastly disproportional share of the trauma from sexual violence compared to men.

Men are routinely oblivious to situations where women would need to be aware of from a safety perspective. Like taking a cab. Just situational awareness, bro.

You do realize that men who are raped tend to suffer from greater rates of emotional and mental problems than women do, right?

And the rate of physical harm is very similar for men as it is for women (something like 6% vs 12%, which is the statistic that you're probably confused about later in your post when you circle back around to this).

I don't think it's correct to say that men are harmed less than women are. The academic study I posted spends a great deal of time talking about this. They actually refer to it in terms of it being a "myth" or a "common misconception".

For some questions quite a lot of respondents did not see their own experience as rape for various reasons, though it fit the description.

You're referring to a different set of questions that applied to a different term besides rape. The third link I posted actually discusses this in detail. The CDC claims something like 1 in 5 women are sexually abused, but their own data contradicts this statement.

Edit -- Even I was off a little about this...

[The] National Crime Victim Survey (NCVS) found no difference between male and female victims in the use of a resistance strategy during rape and sexual assault (89% of both men and women did so). A weapon was used in 7% of both male and female incidents, and although resultant injuries requiring medical care were higher in women, men too experienced significant injuries (12.6% of females and 8.5% of males).23

And this study found no significant difference between harm (or even method between perpetrators) only noting that men were less likely to report it, and that sometimes men incorrectly stated that the perpetrator was a man instead of a woman, or otherwise downplayed how tramatic the experience was when talking to other people about it:

I have to say that I'm sorry for the downvotes you got. Looking at your post history you're clearly not a feminist troll or anything And it's a good point / discussion to make because a lot of MRAs still aren't aware of this.

Yup

No one is saying that. We are saying it's not our innate privilege of ours to feel safe as this states.

Without researching I would probably that there is a disproportionate amount of sexually violence crimes reported by women than men.

The topic is feeling safe and our "privilege" to do so.

[–]Mackowatosc 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Its not privilege. Its called not being clinically insane.
