I just dated some girls and if I liked the decor at their place, i would take them to RH, homegoods & even Ikea, places like that and have them pick some stuff out for my place. Didn't take long to have a pretty nice place.

I do woodworking as a hobby. I've literally rebuilt everything my ex took all myself, including an entire master bedroom suite. Very therapeutic.

Everything matches because I made it.

Look through some furniture websites and see what appeals to you. Walk through some furniture showrooms. Many furniture stores offer free decorating services.

Do you happen to know any beer salesmen? The crazy amount of cool gear they’re given is awesome. A quick retelling of your situation and you’ll most likely end up with a ton of swag and a few new buddies who wanna come kick it at the new pad.

Rule #1- if you like it, it goes. Rule#2- when you get bored of it or realize it doesn’t work for you anymore, dumpsters are great.

Milk crates overturned make great tv stands.

Turned on their sides and stacked make great shelves.

Cinder blocks and 2x6’s, maybe a card table or two…

Folding lawn chairs.

Seriously though, a google search for home decorating for me turns up a few articles. I thought, given that I’m a librarian, I should be able to turn up a good book recommendation or something. But nope. Any aspiring authors want to fill a niche here?

After reading through some of these comments, I realize I might not be the norm. I've always loved decorating and always chose and furnished our homes when married. I'm also involved in a real estate business where getting places decked out right, helps make closing a sale much easier. There are a ton of good decorating websites online. This is my favorite https://www.homestratosphere.com/. Some of the houses on there blow me away. Browse the sites, see what you like and then copy it.

Divorce is hard but living in a place fully decorated the way I like it makes for one counter weight I can put on the scale

Great subject. When I first met her she was floored I didn’t have much on the walls and no decorating. Always left that in her hands. Divorced two years, I’ve hung a clock and helped my daughters hang some paintings they made out side of that no.

Just pick something you like man. Doesn’t even have to be a theme. For example, I’m a big music guy. Love rock music. She hated anything and everything to do with it. In my house now I have a couple of posters from rock concerts I’ve attended hanging up on the walls. Looking for some paintings of Hendrix or Pink Floyd stuff once I can get the funds back up. But I have plenty of time. Most of the house is still bare though. You like sports? Do that! You like music? Do that! You like movies? Whatever it is that makes you happy, surround yourself with it. I took the one painting I had that reminded me of her down, cause I just couldn’t do it anymore.
