My husband has a view that if, say, our daughter spills something by mistake and I forget to clean it, he'll do it and not tell me it was awry. He says it's because nobody is perfect and unnecessary criticism doesn't belong in a harmonious family.

I grew up in a family where my mother would assign chores to the children and hold us responsible for getting them done. If I didn't do the dishes, for example, they would sit in the sink, dirty, until I did them.

I came through the door, took off my sandals, didn't put them on the shoe rack (my mistake). He came home later, and put said sandals onto the shoe rack. When I couldn't find them when I ran out to Tesco, I asked him if he'd seen them.

I put them on the shoe rack. Guess I forgot to tell you, I'm sorry

It would be nice if he communicated more, but I'm appreciative of his view on unnecessary criticisms. Any thoughts?
