It’s interesting to see all the hypocritical double standards around this.

There are those who argue 12 year old girls are mature enough to decide to undergo sex changing procedures without parental consent. Then there are feminists who claim fully grown adult women who commit crimes should go to prison because women don’t have agency. (Can’t make responsible decisions of their own accord).

Little boys are treated like adults by certain adults - mostly women. Some kid stole money from me and I told his mom and she pretended like I wasn't talking to her and rolled her eyes. Teachers expected me to reason like an adult. And they talked to and held us accountable as if we were adult men and expected us to understand adult men concepts.

Meanwhile, us folks in the US are authorizing driver's licenses to 16 year olds.

This is without taking into account gender, which only further screws things up in terms of age-related responsibility/privilege given out.

I agree with the point you're trying to make; about how young women tend to be innocent especially due to their youth, but young men tend to be held to greater accountability. And that this also runs into all sorts of hypocritical double standards - Feminism loves to point out that boys around age 3-10 don't "mature as fast", but then will still hold them accountable as an adult for anything they do 18+, but at the same time treat their young women up to around 25-30 as though they can do no wrong and anything/everything is defensible/justifiable.

I can't remember where I heard it but someone broke down maturity differences between the sexes as females maturing to 16 faster than males but start to stagnate there, while males continue to mature beyond that. A good sign of this is the ability to discern another's frame of mind. In general men understand other's minds, motivations, morals, etc are seperate from their own. Women tend to project their minds on other's.

That's still an improvement from now, where women are NEVER held accountable for their actions. Just loik at the welfare rolls if you don't believe me: single mothers high on drugs all fay long, having a kid with a different drug dealer each time, living in social housing and hoarding welfare checks, alimony checks, child support checks and child support benefits, all paid for by men via biased divorce settlements and taxes.

In the US boys and men are made "accountable" well before they reach 18. Under current US laws if a woman rapes an underage boy, gets pregnant and chooses to give birth then the (male) RAPE VICTIM will be forced to pay child support. Even worse: if the (female) rapist hides the pregnancy from her rape victim then the US government will penalize him for not paying child support when he didn't know and was therefore unable to pay. 🙄🙄🙄

I’ve seen them act like that too. Some even say women aren’t done with puberty until they’re 20-21, when in reality the end of puberty for women is in general two years after they’ve had their first period, which means the end of puberty would be 14 or 15 for most girls.

They’ll even try to tell you that if a 19 year old woman dates a 27 year old man on her own free will, she must’ve been groomed.

The whole concept of age of consent (in both the legal and sexual sense) is one of those things that's a lot more nebulous and grey than most people like to think about.

Case in point: I was once exactly 17 years, and 354 days old. One day later I had my eighteenth birthday, and I was a bit surprised to find out that morning that I didn't actually feel any different than I had the night before. Despite suddenly gaining the legal status and rights of an adult, I was pretty much exactly the same person I was the night prior. What had changed overnight to make me suddenly worthy of all these freedoms and responsibilities?

The uncomfortable truth is that intellectual development is a continuum. Obviously an adult manipulating a 12 year old into a sexual relationship is gross and predatory. Likewise, I also don't think a typical 12 year old has the mental faculties to make informed choices about buying addictive substances or taking out lines of credit. But at the same time, does a hard line allowing someone to do these things at age 18 even make sense? The brain continues developing until your mid twenties, so maybe the age of consent should be 25? But a 25 year old has less life experience than a 35 year old, so maybe that should be the age of consent?

At a certain point you have to be considered old enough to be held responsible for your own actions. The magical change from child to adult at age 18, is sort of one of those weird and arbitrary legal fictions you just have to go with, because if you don't set a hard line somewhere, laws which treat "children" differently than "adults" would get too muddy, and be basically unenforceable.

The current attempts to cancel Justin Timberlake over supposedly pressuring Britney Spears to get an abortion when they were about 18 or 19 years old illustrate this perfectly. Never mind that they were both about the same age and barely adults legally speaking, and never mind that Britney herself never described it as anything more than him stating an honest opinion and them deciding together that abortion, while not ideal, was the best decision in that situation (a decision that seems to have been vindicated by the fact that, even with her female privilege, she couldn't convince a family court that she was more fit to maintain physical custody of her kids than Kevin Federline of all people).

While barely adult Britney is allowed to have been young and dumb and committed youthful indiscretions, barely adult Justin is somehow expected to have had the same maturity as 42-year-old Justin today.

As soon as they hit 18? It's much lower than that. How many teenage boys will be trialed as adults whenever it suits the public? How many teenage boys who get girls their age, or much older, pregnant will also be expected to responsible for a child they shouldn't have even been deemed old enough to consent to conceive? How many teenage boys will be expected to develop the physical capabilities to defend other women, who are often much older and just as capable, who should be protecting them instead?
