Do you think joining toastmasters would help me increase my social skills especially when it comes to talking to women?

You would be much better off learning to dance instead. I recommend salsa, bachata and kizomba.

If you're under 30ish, you could join a toastmasters group associated with a university. That way you'll have men/women your own age to socialize with/practice speaking with as well

Just keep looking for someone who doesn't get bored of you.

I think a lot of guys try hard to keep a woman entertained. Don't.

Just be yourself and, while you can have fun (with her), invite her on "normal dates". Don't try to one up dates with her, e.g. coffee, drinks, dinner at home, fancy place etc.

The other big part is stop trying to find interesting things to talk about. Once you talk with a girl that resonates with you, you will be able to make anything interesting.

Building off of that, it depends on your intentions, but opening up emotionally and talking about your values, helps women feel your investment + honesty, so even if they might get "bored" or whatever that means. They'll typically prioritize someone that they've vetted, understand, share values, has a good history with, and is (in general) fun vs. "bored and move on"

Yeah it would have some carryover but if you want to get better at talking to women the best thing to do is to just talk to women. (and improve looks)

Never did toastmasters, but I’ve done improv and that helped tremendously.

I was able to easily come up with random comments to start conversations when cold approaching. It also helps you think on the fly because you never know what will come up in a conversation, so you can never have a preprogrammed answer.

It seems like you’re looking for a relationship. After a few dates, it’s more about enjoying each other’s company, meeting their friends, and planning future adventures. That will hopefully give you a lot to talk about. It’s a completely different terrain. Just make sure you’re both on the same page. Always be curious I guess.

Toastmasters is a great organization.

It is geared more toward formal speaking engagements.

Although it's table topic component helps you think on your feet, it doesn't really carry over to fun flirty conversation that much.

Your time would be better spent in the field actually engaging in conversations with women.

I had a potential client who was doing very well in Toastmasters. But a year on, he still hasn't met anyone or gone on a date. In fact, the guy's still a virgin.

It's a bit of a misunderstanding (to me anyway) that joining Toastmasters would help you communicate better with women. It can definitely help in terms of getting your ideas across, but communication with women is a different ball game. Conversation - as a tool for getting better with women - is also given way more attention than it should be. There are other aspects to pay attention to, such as your vibe and image.

‘Join toastmasters’ is the type of creepy advice I got from some Depression-era work colleague when I was just out of college.

Useless then, and worse than that now lol.

Depends on the group, the one near me was mostly older people.

You can improve your social skills at all kinds of social events and groups. I'd suggest going along to something you enjoy and want to do.

If you want to improve your public speaking, by all means go to toastmasters.

Public speaking teaches you how to command attention and be a strong communicator. It definitely helps you find your power

Toastmasters sounds like a great idea. It’s a great supplement as is improv classes. But, you still need to socialize with people and especially women. Do both.

Toastmasters is good for public speaking in general, I was a member for a few months in my younger days, my group got quite demanding and I was feeling guilty so I left.

I think for you is just going for it, making clear you aren’t here to chit chat and want to meet so you can progress things. Talking for months is sending the wrong messages

If you're so shy that it makes you appear creepy, then yes, toastmasters can help you. Otherwise, I'd say it's simply a matter of finding someone you like and seeing if they like you back, and if not, then you repeat again and again until you get a match, just like you would on a dating app.

It will make you worse. Going to parties, clubs and bars are the best way. You are forced to be fun or else the girl's attention goes somewhere else.
