Let’s be real with ourselves. Personally when my wife discarded me I was a shrimp. Skinny/fat, nerdy. I didn’t like what I saw in the mirror. Never did. And I know not liking what I saw hurt my confidence, my marriage, my self. But I never put in the work to change my body.

I’ve gotten therapy and I suggest everyone does. But the reason men say “hit the gym” is because it adds several benefits therapy does not do: it gives us SOMETHING TO DO, which men need. It keeps depression and anxiety away. You feel better about yourself. Also, women appreciate you more when you look better.

“But I can’t afford a gym membership or I’m too depressed to leave the house.”

You can workout from home.

Do push-ups.

I found a pull up bar on the side of the road on trash day. Start with push ups, pull ups, squats, burpees.

Go to a thrift store and get a pull up bar or buy any workout equipment you can find.

Get a jump rope or some running shoes and run.

Get a kettlebell. They are compact and really good to get a lot out of your system. Learn how to do kettlebell swings. Do goblet squats!

Change your diet, eat chicken, rice, veggies, lentils if you are on a budget.

You got to fight to get yourself back. Men need more than just therapy or another woman to fill that void.
