Yes, but it's a dishonest statement, as women would also do more harm to men without laws. And both would do more harm to children.

This is because humans need laws to maintain order.

What she's saying is like stating that if a tornado hits a house filled with a big family, women will die. Lets talk about how dishonest this statement is:

It assumes women are the most important people in the home to be mentioned.
It assumes the children don't matter.
It assumes the husband doesn't matter.
It assumes this is a woman's issue, when it is a family issue, and a human issue.

Dishonesty, is what these women who make claims like the one you pointed out, are espousing.

In this hypothetical world where laws don’t exist, there would be “some” bad men who do bad things more openly than there currently are.

I don’t have any real idea of the percentage of the population. As is, it’s a low percentage, maybe 2% or less. If there were zero laws? I believe it would be MAYBE 10%.

But then, those men would likely be dealt with by the rest who would act upon the injustice. So, it would be a self regulating society.

That said, there are plenty of women who would also do horrible things if there were no laws in place as well. And from more recent studies shown? The percentage of women is much higher than men. The big difference is, that men are generally stronger.

To be really blunt, women do not appreciate that the average man could kill them without much struggle. This doesn't happen not because of laws, but because 99% of men arent monsters and have an understanding of right&wrong.

For the small percentage of men that commit violence on women, the same laws do absolutely nothing to stop them doing it until caught.

I actually agree with it. Whenever people with power or authority know that there won't be consequences for their actions, people do tend to misuse or take things for granted. Basically, law exists for a reason. Law and God keep most people from being unlawful. It does play a role.

Note that this applies to people regardless of the gender. Men have an upper hand physically and it is bound to have consequences in a lawless world. Of course.. Not all men.

Obviously most people are usually not trying to harm anyone, and some people ignore the law. That's not why we have laws. "Why bother having laws if criminals break the law anyway" just isn't ever a good argument. If you don't have laws against domestic violence, you can't punish people who get caught committing domestic violence (for example). You'd also be tacitly admitting that society is okay with domestic violence.

The only way for laws to stop existing is for people to stop supporting them. So yes, if people stop supporting laws that protect against criminals (to presumably commit crimes), then I expect that more crime will be committed.

Sure, lawlessness breeds a higher crime rate, but framing it as a "male problem" is problematic because it:

1- ignores the fact that women also commit crimes and would take advantage of the same situation

2- assumes all men are only "leashed" because of laws, and not because of morals, empathy or social conditioning.

It's just another way for feminists to make any situation "women good, men bad".

No, men would not go out of their way to hurt women. The men who want to do harm, will do that harm regardless of the law the men who don't want to hurt women, won't hurt women.

When my state legalized weed, guess what happened? The people who smoked weed kept smoking weed, the people who didn't smoke, kept not smoking. Everyone kept claiming Armageddon and mad max scenarios but nothing happened.

I suspect the same would happen here.

All those laws? They're just a political move. They're their to win your vote.

When those laws are enacted, good men shrug and say this doesn't even apply to me and the bad men shrug and say "like I care?"

The good men will stay good. But the bad men will stop behaving as soon as theres no laws stopping them. The bad men that act dispite the law are fairly rare.

Without law, it becomes a matter of who has immediate power in an area. If its mostly good guys and good culture, they will force the bad ones into behaving. But that is essentially what law is in the first place...

So to put it bluntly, yes they would do more harm to others, including women if laws were erased from existence. But in reality, it wouldn't take long before men simply made more laws.

I think laws provide a basis for morality in society, without said laws, I do think that a higher percentage of people would commit harm towards others due to the lack of socialisation regarding what we perceive as right or wrong.

For example, the average British person would perceive laws stripping rights away from women as abhorrent and actively causing harm to women. However, individuals in Yemen are more likely to agree with said laws and would argue that it doesn't cause harm due to being raised in country that has limited rights for women.

Essentially, it does come down to socialisation as to whether men would harm women without laws. Obviously, a higher percentage would harm women due to the lack of consequences BUT I believe the majority of men wouldn't if they're still raised with a basis for right and wrong and socialised to respect women as equal human beings.

If murder was legal, I would’ve killed 15 people in traffic on my way to work this morning, one of my 5th grade classmates for beating me up back-in-the-day AND David Benioff & D. B. Weiss for destroying Game of Thrones in the last 2 seasons. Our laws protect society from suffering further by relegating evil acts SOLELY to evil people.

Yes and no.

In lawlessness I'd imagine some men would try to take advantage of women, but I'd assume women would do the same to men.

But the reason why I say no is because if women know they're in danger, they're going to surround themselves with people who can protect them. Women already do that, not because they're unsafe, but because they don't want people they don't want talking to them to be able to.

I know people will probably disagree, but an example is pregnant women. Pregnant women have a completely different friend group that typically invites men because no men really care to pursue that sexually, but will protect them. If women strongly felt they were in danger, I'd imagine they'd be willing to trade sex for protection in the same way they trade sex for financial stability... So that same absence of security will be compensated with companionship.

What does it mean to say "without laws"? Do you mean if we lived as we do now except laws magically ceased to exist? If so, it's not a useful question because the way we live now exists because laws exist and if they did not we would live very differently.

However, if we instead look at the historical picture we can get an idea of what it was actually like before "laws" existed. The answer to the question then is: No.

From time immemorial human tribes have protected women and punished those who would harm them. In clan and kinship based societies, sexual assault was seen as an offense to the group, and punishment usually came in the form of vengeance, blood feuds, or honor killings. These systems were not about written statutes, but they were still rules that people enforced. As societies became more settled, responsibility shifted from extended clans toward families, and wrongs were handled through compensation, forced marriage, or retaliation led by fathers or male relatives. Later, when states consolidated power, they tried to stop private vengeance and bring all serious crimes under their own authority. Rape and sexual assault became part of this shift, not because the behavior was suddenly considered bad, but because the state wanted to control punishment and prevent endless cycles of revenge as well as establishing a monopoly on force. Over time, what had once been enforced by kin groups was absorbed into centralized legal codes.

So the rise of laws is not evidence that people were harming women more prior to laws and laws didn't suddenly prevent it. Instead laws are part of the larger transition from tribal and clan justice, to family justice, to state administered law.

TLDR: The law is a codification of something inherent in human nature that has always been there. Sexual assault has always been considered wrong and punished.

I don’t think so, back before the 1800’s there were not that many laws protecting women they were basically seen as property so the laws were about the same as the laws protecting animals, if you harmed another man’s woman it was seen as a crime against that man wether the man was her father or her husband a woman was property of one or the other in most cases. But women were always protected again by the father or husband, that’s why even before we had all the rape laws and such women weren’t getting raped and killed in mass. Women were first off the Titanic because they have always been seen as weak like children so they were protected even in a time they didn’t have many rights. But we should also remember back then society was heavily faith influenced unlike today. Also people were not as violent towards one another in historical times outside of wars and cultural disputes (native Americans and settlers) people in todays society are much more violent not sure why that is but it’s pretty evident that violence has become way more popular in humans against other humans, I think this has to do with the lack in morality without the faith backing of previous times. If laws were suddenly reversed I think there would be lots of revenge harm just from men who were wronged by women but it would eventually go back to how it was in history men would protect women and women would retreat back into submissiveness back to fathers or finding a mate to protect them.
