Caring about men’s rights is progressive, but how do we convince other progressives?

I often wonder if it's even possible to convince other progressives?

Many of them have shown to be willing and comfortable with using the same rhetoric that we criticize the right for using against minorities but for men. That goes far beyond simple disagreement or failing to see our point in my book.

And just as many have shown they're comfortable with that rhetoric being used.

Work in the progressive movements you care about. And then have those conversations within those movements at the appropriate time. Inject those discussions, but only after it's clear that you're on their side. For me, it's anti-war, police and criminal justice reform, healthcare. All of those have profound overlaps with men's issues. Don't lead with it though.

We should remind them of Martin Luther King Jr, who advocated not just racial equality but social justice as well, namely that injustice anywhere threatens justice everywhere. Also, let's remember Lyndon Johnson's words about how identity politics divides and subjugates everyone.

"If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you"

Lastly, we should provide statistics that show that men's issues are not just a narrowing of the gap but actual problems that need to be solved for everyone's benefit. We need a society that benefits everyone, not just the historically marginalized.

How do you convince someone of something, when they work backwards from a conclusion?

How do you convince a religious person out of their religion?

idk man. I find that most people tend to have a threshold with how much conversation they can stand. if it gets too long, or too uncomfortable, they back out, especially if their own arguments aren't very good.The only thing that's been effective for me is if one can very significantly increase that threshold. only taking it up with very close significant partners or close family. people who can't get rid of you, even if you chip away at their world view, and care to actually hear what you're saying, because you're not just another person to them, until it finally clicks for them.

I don't think it's possible, as I think men's rights and issues are at odds with Progressivism.

I think that Progressivism is a form of relative left thought (I think it's actually further to the right than we realize tho) that exists to justify maintaining social and status hierarchies in our society. That's why it holds on so hard to oppressor/oppressed dichotomies based on identity, because it freezes out the role that class and status plays.

Making a distinction to the different experiences faced by different men based on class and status is key to progressing men's rights.

We will not convince the "progressives". They usually have a very rigid dogmatic worldview, and trying to change their mind is a waste of time in most cases.

We should instead focus on more neutral people, especially young.

I try to position myself in conversations as the most progressive person there, but not one of THOSE progressive people. It sort of reclaims the term/moves the overton window at the conversation level. At some points I've used the label "radical egalitarian," but idk, something about it is missing something.

They are brainwashed by feminists. While feminists want even more censorship. Offline actions, organizations are needed. and concentrate activities on military slavery, unequal age of retirement as these are the most visible violations. a worldwide catalogue of misandrist laws is needed.

Could not be in more agreement. Misandry(by name) needs to come to mind IMMEDIATELY when Feminism is being used as a cudgel. My grandmother is an extremely intelligent woman and she didn't actually know the meaning of the word misandry. I was actually quite surprised. She's(86) very much greatly appreciative of feminism but she is also fairly forward thinking(compared to some women) and pro-men. Anywho.... MISANDRY(by name)needs to enter the public conscienceness's lexicon, zeitgeist or whatever.

I don't think you really can. You let them suffer the consequences of ignoring men's issues and let the results speak for themselves. If that doesn't change there mind I doubt any discussion would have changed there mind anyway. If they show cracks in there thinking // perspective // worldview that presents an opportunity it chime in then it might be worth it.

If you are going to try convincing anyone you can try using the Socratic method to pick apart there ideas with them and maybe get them to rethink something.

You're just like Sex Workers. They too want to fight for sex worker rights against Far Leftist Radical Feminists by using a watered down leftist world view or even a far left view when it's clear as day light that it's never going to happen because the left has morphed into being a straight white male bashing movement or it was originally that to begin with.

The hierarchy that the left go on are as follows: 1. White straight men - enemy number 1 2. White straight female (unless homosexual leftist) - enemy number 2. 3. It seems incredibly difficult to create an actual MRA movement that doesn't get at least somewhat hijacked by misogynists and garden variety Conservatives. I go on this subreddit, look through the history, and I see people denying patriarchy. Can't really stop Conservatives from co-opting our rhetoric, and that makes progressives view MRAs broadly as Conservatives.

All that leads me to think the best way of going about it is from the standpoint of fourth wave feminism. Fourth wave feminism essentially argues that gender norms are a prison and need to be eradicated altogether, and I think the argument there is pretty straightforward. People like to zero in on specific policies and who's hurt by what, but they're all fruits of the same tree. You can't have a society where men are expected to show strength but women are not viewed as weaker -- not because it isn't desirable or moral, but because it isn't possible.

frame it as human rights instead of male rights and just issues instead of male issues, tho there is always a risk that it ends up benefiting women primarily, because of course, but at least something will get thrown at men once in a while.
