I got to know a girl in march when I helped her and a mutual friend with some diy stuff at girls house, but we haven't kept much contact besides following each other on Instagram. She was cute, but I had neither time nor interest in dating. At the beginning of the month I replied to her story, we texted a bit but I didn't ask her out then - my mother was sick and I had more pressing matters than dating. But we kept texting from time to time, both of us usually needing 2-3 days to respond.

I found out that we were spending some time in the same region in august so I jokingly suggested to meet up, which she agreed to do. But when I invited her for coffee or drinks beforehand to see if we would match she declined, joking that she couldnt accept me first helping her AND inviting her to coffee. Important to know but she only replied two hours after reading my messages.

She also suggested that we could hang out together with our mutual friend after she returned back from holiday, and asked me if I liked to play board games, implying she wanted to keep contact with me despite us not knowing each other.

Not sure what to make of this. The rational part in me sees a clear rejection: she doesn't want to go out with you, it's a rejection, move on.

The not-so-rational overthinking part is confused: maybe she is shy? Not knowing what to do/say? Maybe she wants to play it safe? Just being polite? Why did she wait two hours to respond after reading it?

I am honestly not sure what to make out of this situation. Can someone please tell me how to handle this - and possibly beat the delulu out of me - because I'm majorly confused.

A simple "no, thank you" would have been much better for my overthinking mess of a brain.
