According to the Bayes theorem, if the initial expected probability of an event is low, and false positives exist for that event, then the probability of a false positive is high. This can explain why ugly men are rational in their decision to be cynical about dating, since given a significant probability of false positives and a low actual rate of sexual attraction, it is most probable that a woman has some ulterior motive I.e. a false positive reason for dating them given perceived rapport.
