I don’t think anyone has ever said financial success was the only strength women could value. You’re conflating praise of one feature to imply denial of others. There are many types of strength, and it varies from person to person, but there’s nothing wrong with acknowledging when someone is successful financially.

It's not about financial success, but hierarchical success.

Nature is about power dynamics. For multiple reasons women were excluded in most hierarchies.

There have always been female exclusive hierarchies, but their relevance pales in comparison with male ones.

After feminism / technological advances (depending who you ask) women were enabled to compete against men.

But most hierarchies are dominated by hyper-competitive men. So a woman that's able to compete with those men is by definition strong.

It's relevant to say that the bulk of us peasants, is not made of successful men, but mediocre ones. So, if you use the same definition only a handful of men are successful by the same standard.

Otherwise, yo could change your definition of strong man/woman , to coal miners developing black lung or single mums working double shifts hoping to rise their child out of poverty. Yet men working double shifts as a cashier are usually not referred as strong, so welcome to double standards.

Health and wealth are universal status symbols, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that 1/2 of those made it into the "definition of success" list.

You could easily argue that "healthier" women are "stronger" as well.

A prerequisite for being considered strong is self-sufficiency. Thus a certain amount of financial success is indeed required.

Who does this? This is a thing you see a lot? I have never heard of anyone specifically limiting the idea of a "strong woman" to a successful career woman. Sure, I have heard them being referred to as 'strong' but never in such a way to imply no other type of woman is.

Women have no way to be successful on their own terms. Feminism has convinced soiciety that "success" for a woman should be copying what "success" for a man should is. We need more female CEOs! A female president! More female movie stars etc. In fact the entire point of feminism and women's lib is "how can we make women be more like men?" Women sure are empowered these days.... Purplepilldebate is American centric. Most users are American so they see the world through the only way they know how to see the world.

The pursuit of money, power, social standings and social influence above all else. Feminism and women in the workforce just means that women are competing for the same things men are now.

No longer are women NEETs who look after their children. Now they're gunning for what magazines sell you to pursue and a lifestyle only a certain percentage will ever achieve (The American Dream so to speak).

In today's society, yes as a woman you do need to be financially successful to be taken seriously and there's no ifs and buts.

“Financially strong” is a factual, measurable metric of achievement. “Emotionally strong” is a description a family member or friend chooses to give a particular woman. It is their subjective experience of that woman and it may or may not be accurate. Those two types of strengths have no business being compared. One of them is subjective, the other is just a fact.

Women who DEMAND to be respected for being emotionally “strong” are usually lacking in emotional strength.

I don't understand why humans should feel compelled to not become financially successful. Don't you want to get ahead of financial strife and be able to assertain your own lively hood ? Would you like to be dependant on other people to cover your basic needs?

People aren't equal. Some people are strong, some are weak. Being financially successful doesn't necessarily mean you are strong tho.
