In light of Netflix's extension of the 5-second-rule to cover not only dropped food items but now also looking at colleagues, what are people's thoughts on workplace dating? Is it a terrible idea? Is work a natural place for finding new partners? I've seen opinions on totally opposite sides of the isle on this.

I can see merits on both sides of the argument. Employers tend to hate workplace dating due to liabilities and human resources concerns. Employees may find themselves lacking opportunity outside the workplace or may find their workplace provides especially tempting opportunities, sometimes to the point of it being a perk of the job (hello yoga instructors and lifeguards), but risk occupational consequences if things go badly.

Does it come down to the nature of different workplaces? I've seen people hold the opinion that it's fine to date around on a casual temp job but you'd be crazy to do it in a serious career, yet my sister and her husband are doctors who met through work and you don't get much more serious than medical professionals when it comes to needing to safeguard their careers. Is there an individual element? My relationships tend to end amicably but there are other people who's relationships end when they crash and burn in a blaze of drama. Does it depend on how strong the CYA and SJW cultures are, where some places are hotbeds of HR departments getting in people's business and other places being much more casual about it?
