Perhaps, but we could unintentionally introduce further issues. For instance, many people believe that men are better at math and science, so the boys may be given the better teachers in that area, furthering that divide between men and women.

Also, separate but equal hasn't historically worked.

Seems like a low effort post. We could have a good discussion about the pros and cons of single-sex education, but you haven't put forth anything more than "learning potential".

I don't know. I always tried to impress the smart, pretty girls with my intelligence in high school. I doubt I would have applied myself as well in an all-boys school. In college, sometimes the only reason I showed up for some of the early morning classes was because of some of the attractive women that were there. I probably would have skipped out more if every class had been a sausage fest.

As an guy who knew people growing up in backwards-ass India, this is a terrible idea. It makes for strong determined doctors, engineers, teachers, and lawyers once they leave the shitty small towns and head to the cities, but the end result is 21yr old men who can't look at women in the eyes without thinking they're DTF leading to bob vegana pics and women who think talking to guys = evil cursed penis snake soon eating their vaginas thus the slightest body kino is literally rape.

People, if you haven't noticed, Elliot Rodger attended a predominantly female university, had a sister, and attended three different high schools.

OP, since you asked your views to be challenged, 99% of problems that are "marketed" as problems of co-education could be solved by introducting more male teachers. If history taught us anything, it's that the best way to "maximise potential" is to let men do their job.

That's dumb. Schools are there to properly socialize people. Book learning is a secondary objective.

People are properly socialized through maximum exposure to a wide variety of people. Men and women need to learn to be around one another from a young age, otherwise you get all kinds of massive society-wide hangups.

I've lived in countries with segregated schools and they got issues.

The problem is that it used to be like that but the boys' schools were better so the best girls wanted access.

Someone like me would never had a boyfriend if it wasn't for proximity at school, so a few more nerds had sex thanks to mixed schools. I don't think it was good for me, but maybe it made them more confident.

I disagree. People do better when a great social situation is built up with romantic relationships being a part of it.

Me and a lot of other incels sometimes feel like our whole lives are being sucked out of us due to the situation we're in. I guess one way a lot of people with hectic engineering curricula survive mentally is by having an so to literally lay their shoulders on after a grueling exam etc.

I spent some time at a catholic girls' school; I also went to a public high school with both genders.

Day to day, there was almost no difference. The same people who would've slacked off in public school, still slacked off at a single-sex school. Teachers were just as clueless, and classes were just as boring as they are in public school. There were still jocks, nerds, leaders, followers, hippies, goths, popular kids, bullies, stoners, and everything else you'd have at a normal school. We didn't miss boys. But we didn't prefer being without them, either. It just wasn't much different. People still dated and everything, they just did it outside of school. Of course that didn't stop girls from fighting over boys, either.

I realize people in single-sex education get better grades on average, but I think that's more selection bias than anything else.

I see multiple problems with segregated schools:

segregation can easily lead to more inequality due to different funding, different teachers, possibly at some point even different subjects in schools. Just because there are certain statistical tendencies for unequally distributed talents amongst people of different genders, girls shouldn't be denied proper maths and science classes and boys shouldn't be denied proper language classes. There are girls who are good at maths and boys who are good at languages, and those people should be allowed to strive as well.
People who are not conforming to their stereotypical gender role will be at a disadvantage. They will have a harder time making friends because they can't make friends with people of another gender at school, and they will have a harder time at school, because it is very likely that the classes they'd like to go to wouldn't be offered at their school due to lack of participants.
People will get socially awkward around the other gender because they interact far less with boys/girls
Kids wouldn't actually be any less distracted: kids can distract themselves with their own shoes or the squares on their paper or the squirrels outside the windows. They don't need boys or girls for distracting themselves.

A large percentage of public ("charter") schools in my area have changed to a single sex model with uniforms, similar to the Catholic schools that have been preferred by Catholic parents for the past century. This is probably part of why we have a >50% dropout rate.

I am very late but I used to think that till I made an askreddit post about this subject. The answer that changed my mind is this one. With that in mind, the better method is lumping together students who have similar manner of learning things.

Segregated schools would be too targeted. If you are going to separate resources, then you shouldn't spend your resources on the weaker skill. So, what I mean is, it would be a lot more expensive to teach women math and science than men, so men would get the resources for those, and women would get the artsy, women studies courses. This would then recreate roles in our society, and those roles would eventually be called "gender roles". Personally, I don't dislike the notion of gender roles, I've always thought that we, as human beings, need to have specialized skills as opposed to live this "I can half ass anything" world that we live in. Best way I can explain it, great women work now. But with both men and women working, children are getting less attention. In other words, raising children is getting half-assed since no one is around to focus on them, at the same time, both men and women are focusing less on work because they need to dedicate some of their time for their families, therefore, overall, efficiency is decreasing. This is all speculation as of now since I'm too lazy to pull up statistics for you, but take it in whatever way you want.

However, I do think that in a dual gendered education system, boys and girls push each other and help maximize each other's potential. I think it's important that girls learn boy's point of views and boys learn girl's point of view. Girl's are so different, I remember when I was in high school, I'd tutor math after school for people my grade and 2 grades above (I finished up to the 3 division of grade 12 math [trigonometry, calculus and statistics] by the end of grade 9, so in grade 10, I was tutoring grade 10, 11 and 12 students) I had such a hard time explaining things to girls. They'd get it, but their mentality and thought process was so different. In university, I hated having female math teachers because I had a hard time understanding their thought process. I often ignored the methods that they taught, taught myself the material, then tried to understand their methods and explanations after I taught myself the material in order to make sure I understood things. You can see that just from my personal experiences, there are a lot of frustrations that arise from having both genders in schools, but at the end of the day, I benefited. I understood the material better. The only thing that I would say needs to be cut out of our education system is the feminist bullshit. Male teachers kind of skim through that crap, but female teachers have this need to spend so much time on it. I honestly don't care, I'm not there to learn about how women were oppressed or some other bullshit, I'm there to learn math, physics, biology, economics, marketing etc etc. If I cared about that shit, I'd have taken a women studies course.
