Wtf, a bluepiller actually understanding the concept of "moral hazard", I am genuinely surprised.

One important thing to understand about upper-middle-class liberals is that we rarely see what Marx called the lumpenproletariat: the people with really screwed up lives. We do see the working class, and if we pay attention, we notice that the working class is having a pretty bad time. So our mental model of welfare is basically, "Here's somebody who takes pride in hard work and self-discipline, and who's working two shitty jobs, but they're slowly drowning." Our reflexive solution to that is, "It's not fair to work hard and still get screwed. Can we, like, give them money or raise the minimum wage or something?"

But the working class does tend to see Marx's lumpenproletariat (up close and personal), and they're afraid that their kids will get knocked up, get hooked on meth, and generally fuck up up their lives. So for the working class, defending working class values is a matter of survival. And they're afraid that increased welfare would only encourage more of their kids to make bad decisions.

UMC liberals and the working class are basically having two completely different conversations. Which makes it painfully hard to solve the genuine problems facing this country.

They don't just become afraid of such things they almost always freak out. I've had a couple homeless people show up at my work which brings in middle to upper class people and they get freaked out if they see a homeless person and often not they make a physical bubble around him so they don't get near. I do feel for the homeless when this happens to them. When I do interact with them I treat them like anyone else. Funny thing is half the time they have a ticket for what ever show we have going on (work at a performing arts center).

So you want people who go on welfare have their private lives checked before they are granted help? Including interrogation about proper taste in men? Having sex only after they have a good job?

This is an interesting question and deserves a thread on its own. People are generally afraid of offending others by calling their competency into question. Parents are also very protective of their kids, whom they see as an extension of themselves. Thus it gets a lot of people hot under the collar when you highlight that, at present, our views on parenting need to change. Or that parents are failing their kids.

Firstly, just because you can doesn't mean you should. Overpopulation is a problem because of the drain on the planet's resources. At least if we grew food and gave it away for free we could argue it ain't so bad. But there are no hydroponic farms churning our free fruit and veggies for poor folk. They still need money to feed their kids. Secondly, bad parenting and abuse screws people up for life. There is nothing wrong with learning tough lessons but if we had a competency check for people before they became parents, it might save a lot of people from growing up in an unhealthy environment. In my country, it is not uncommon for a woman to have multiple kids from different men living in a shack in someone else's back yard, in a poor, crime ridden neighbourhood.

Should we not consider that we need to teach people how to parent before they get pregnant and have babies? Or maybe some psychological evaluations beforehand so it reduces the chances of a kid growing up in an abusive home? We have courses for everything else. We spend billions on education, which really just prepares us to be wage slaves to the ruling elite, and yet we don't put prospective parents through a year long course to prepare them and their future child. This is like reducing education to something you picked up from your neighbour instead of something that will prepare you to earn money and be independent.

We may need to ask ourselves some difficult questions about the direction we want to go in for the health of our offspring. Single parenthood in an impoverished environment is not ideal. You want to keep overpopulation under control? Tell them more than one kid will cost money. The poor will be sure to keep it in their pants and they sure as hell won't turn down free contraception. Perhaps we need a cultural shift regarding procreation, such as by granting parenting licences to people who have passed a series of tests and can afford a kid.

Another issue people don't talk about is how governments manipulate populations. When they ban contraception they won't tell you it's because they need more workers or soldiers, they use morality or religion as an argument because people would be outraged at the real reason: more people means more productivity for lower wages.

It is different to centuries ago when people stayed in tribes and took care of each other. Our culture has shifted so much that we have the opportunity to offer our kids more.

Eugenicists tried to tamper with selective breeding but they failed and were racist to boot. If we can selectively breed animals, then why are we exempt? Nature used to take care of the weak yet we continue to breed. Clearly we haven't stopped to consider the impact of uncontrolled breeding. No one culls us when we have overpopulated the earth yet we don't mind thinning a herd when they breed too much.

If we guided breeding and insisted on parenting licences, we could reduce the chances of kids growing up with debilitating mental issues that they then give to their kids. Abuse begets abuse. An abusive parent today didn't come out of nowhere. They are a product of a fucked up society. We did that. We created that. We need to take responsibility because we cannot assume that giving birth to someone means you know how to raise them.

My mother was a single mom to me from the time I was 1 until she got remarried when I was 8. Because she refused to take any government assistance and my father ran away to avoid his child support for the next 6 years, she worked full-time to put me in private school. So I didn't see her much and was essentially raised by my grandparents for my early years.

I love the siblings that came from the relationship between her and my stepfather, but he made my life a living hell for 7 years so I really wish she'd stayed single or at least went for a guy who had a big heart instead of a big wallet.

I think if a woman gets into a relationship that really heads south...like the guy turns out to be violent, abusive, a cheater, etc...then she has a responsibility to her child to leave. (Likewise, a father would too.) But nowadays I see women deliberately becoming single moms via sperm bank, then leaving their kid in daycare while they work. Or women who have many kids with many men, none of whom live together or support each other. With the sheer amount of birth control available to us in modern times it truly boggles my mind that we have all these welfare moms leeching off the system. It's bad for society as a whole and bad for the children who are growing up without a stable family or home.

I can't truly consider myself a male, because well...I'm not. Reality doesn't work that way.

However, I have rejected female gender roles all my life and am far more comfortable with masculine ones. I buy the majority of my clothes from the men's section of stores, never wear makeup, keep my hair extremely short, and do p90 to keep up my muscles/strength. I used to bind my breasts in middle and high school, but don't anymore because it's somewhat painful. All of my friends are guys and have been for the majority of my life (I did used to really try to make female friends but it never lasts for long unfortunately). I have a male FwB that is accepting of my "weirdness" too, but that is probably because he doesn't much care about gender roles in general.

How do they monitor the privately owned and operated daycare centers?

I identify women and men as body and sometimes personalities. I do not focus on style, hair, make-up, clothes, when judging someone's SMV, I only look at the body features. If you're good looking, then you're going to look good no matter what you do, no matter how you dress.

The clothes I like the most on my wife are nude, or pleasant textures such as pyjamas. But she likes to be feminine, she'll put make-up, feminine clothes, do her hair. I don't care much because it won't alter her innate features, but still like her diversity somehow.

I don't like roles, everybody is fluid enough to consider themselves as not part of any role or group... I don't know how to express this, you're you, just be you, you don't have to force yourself to anything, that's what I guess you're already doing. I always go for the easiest path, and understand that people might do the same, so I perfectly understand that women don't want to spend time with make-up, clothing and hairstyles, and do the minimum to look a bit good but without much effort, like most men eventually do.

That is why I don't understand all the gradient of genders people have to make. What matters to me is your sex and your sexual orientation, everything else hasn't to be fixed or stereotyped, and especially, that's not your job to stereotype yourself, that's mine.

I've met lot of women who would be boys in every aspect of their life except their body is female. People in my country wouldn't label them men, there's a term "missed-boy" to qualify those boyish girls. But nobody contest their femininity, not even themselves. And one of the cutest girls I've met were like that.

I'm not sure what country you're from, maybe you are from a place that somehow is completely egalitarian and everyone is considered gender neutral despite their biological sex. But in the US, gender and sex are still a very important aspects of how you are treated by society and the government, as well as individuals you meet.

I think I see where this particular miscommunication happened. Okay, so I as an individual reject wearing makeup because in the US it is still largely considered a feminine thing to do. I want to do everything I can to avoid being seen as feminine, so I don't use it. But that doesn't mean a cis woman must wear makeup in order to be feminine. Maybe she is a tomboy, maybe she has skin allergies, maybe she thinks it's a frivolous activity, maybe she only wears it on dates or to parties. My point is that although we're both biological females who don't wear makeup our reasons for doing so are different.

What do you detest about being treated like a woman?

Many things. I'm assumed to be much physically weaker than I am, treated more delicately, and if I didn't loudly insist on my ability to help work, then I'd be left out of things like helping my (male) friends move or do other manual labors. People (especially older men) will refuse to curse in my presence or tell certain jokes, I am not invited to go out to the microbrewery with my uncle, younger brother, and male cousins when we visit them even though I would greatly enjoy it. During family gatherings I am told to stay in the kitchen to help prepare food, again while all my male relatives are able to sit back, relax, discussing politics and the state of the world, again something I take a keen interest in.

I am in my early 30s now, but when I was a teen I had to defer to my elder male relatives "knowledge" even when what they said was completely inaccurate. I went to a Catholic private school from kindergarten-6th grade (am an atheist now), and was required to wear the uniform blouses and short skirts even during the winter when it was freezing while the boys got to wear long pants and long sleeve shirts. Girls were forbidden from running in the playground as it was "unladylike", and we'd get reprimanded if we got scratches or dirt on us but the boys were not. Our government requires every 18 year old boy to sign up for the Draft or face major consequences but girls are not (I signed up with my male friends anyway). Being female has made it extremely difficult to keep my friendships alive as I got older, since I'm seem as a threat according to the wives and girlfriends of my friends. Even as a young teen, whenever I went to sleepovers I was forced to sleep in one of the bedrooms from 11pm onwards, instead of being allowed to stay up til whenever with the rest of my friends in the living room. Of course, I'd still sneak down after it sounded like the parents went to sleep, but the fact they thought it was okay to segregate me from my friends party simply because I was born female is disgusting.

Honestly the list goes on, but I'd be writing for hours so I'll stop here.

I'm sorry, and I don't mean this in a harsh way, but I don't believe you. I can't, as it's far too unrealistic. It has taken me years to teach even my close friends and FwB to treat me as they would a fellow male, and even they slip up sometimes. I don't believe you'd consciously do it, but you almost certainly would.

IMO someone who abandons their child is much worse that someone who made a bad decision to procreate have the kid.

Depends on the situation at hand. Don't forget that there are also cases where a girl/woman has a kid by some dude because she wants to coerce him into an LTR, marriage or whatever, thus effectively taking the welfare of the kid hostage for her own selfish desires. Who is the bad guy here?

No, for one single reason: the usual dynamics that lead to single mothers being worse people overall than women who aren't don't apply to men.

Men who end up as single custodian for their offspring usually have a few things going for them: they've expressed an active willingness to take care of the kids (as opposed to a woman who ends up with them pretty much by default), and they're better equipped to do so properly (because otherwise they wouldn't have gotten custody in the first place). Don't forget: in a society where custody laws are strongly biased in favor of the woman, you either need to be an above average guy or the mother must have been truly abysmal.

To all the comments that put down single mums. Do you rate the guys that run off as just as bad or worse?

Depends on circumstances I guess. BF/hubby abusive or went out for milk a decade ago and counting? Died overseas in the military? I give more leeway to them, assuming she was blind sided and didnt see it coming. If shes a (legit) widow, she has my sympathy and support.

This is one of those classic situations in gender politics where a broad term is use, so that the positives or negatives that fall within that term can be cherry-picked at the whim of whatever people want their argument to be, and you're not really meant to make a more nuanced examination of it. (Earnings gap is another one; sexual harassment is another.)

The single mother's who were dumb to get knocked up at 16 and think the world now owes them a living desperately want to associate themselves with the noble single mothers whose fathers were tragically lost.
