I'd feel more insecure knowing that someone could just drop me at any time. Plus I want value after 35. Even if someone loves you very much, they can still make horrible decisions. It's about autonomy and the ability to leave a situation whenever you can.

I have been working since I was 12. It's illegal where I live to work before age 14. This is because I want to work.

First of all, we'd all be in a great place if we didn't have to work.

Secondly, it sure seems like a lot of women are enjoying what they gain from entering into the "male space" of career employment - a position of self-actualization that has not relegated them to one small step above a child (something to be both coddled and condescended to).

The whole women not working thing is kind of an upper class middle class thing lots of working class women have always at least worked part time or had something on the side to earn some cash.

Women are in a better place now because all the technologies you listed and better medical that allows for needing less kids allows women to work if they want to without having to also do a bunch of work when then get home.

Women also have it better because there are a lot of men who also work and don't mind doing some of the chores to break it up.

Household servants for many families in 1850.

Educated, independent women have a large number of society wide benefits.

Plus educated, financially independent women can leave a bad situation. Educated women can make better decisions. They also have fewer kids. They also pay more in taxes and are less dependent on others (men or the government). Educated people make better citizens and voters.

"Better" is an insubstantial and highly subjective term. I believe the word you're looking for is "easier." And, FWIW, I don't think anybody will disagree with you on that note.

Some women actually prefer to be challenged, though, and few households can survive on a single income anymore.

Only if you are a Utilitarian, things like happiness studies from third world backwards ass shit-holes, and repressed people in the past, are what pushed me away from Utilitarianism.

Right now I value truth and self actualization (which I view as part of truth), both of which go against regressive ideas like this.

Women in my family have always worked. I can't think of a single housewife on either side. My quasi-academic thinky job is one hell of a lot easier than quitting school at 13 to be a chambermaid like my grandmother had to do.

Well, yeah, running a household isn't as much work as it used to be even just a couple of decades ago. (I grew up before microwaves were invented, when even having leftovers for supper meant dirtying a bunch of pots and pans to warm everything up.)

The time I spend not washing clothes in a stream on a rock (lol) can be put to other productive uses.

I can't change your view, as I think many, perhaps most, families would be happiest with a housewife in them. I think our "liberation" into being forced to put our kids in daycare was based on a misunderstanding by feminists of our essential natures as men and women. Men will never, on the whole, run households and take care of the children fully. (A few do, naturally, but not many.). Women gleefully tell everyone how they split all the housework with their hubby a year into the marriage before they have kids. I always chuckle to myself. Just wait, honey. Two kids in she's exhausted in her so called "egalitarian" marriage, burned out from working all the time while he whines for more sex like a sad little puppy. She's folding laundry at 8 pm while he's playing videogames. So feminist. Much equality. Meanwhile, my hubs is playing with the kids at 8 pm while I get to relax and enjoy my family. Go liberate some other sucker into the workforce ladies.
