By this definition, I've never met one.

I have known a few guys who worshipped the ground a girl walked on, but it was only for one specific girl. Seen this happen with girls towards one specific guy too.

Anyone who does something positive only and secretly for the hope of sex is someone I have a dim view of to start. I find it disingenuous.

The term 'White Knight' is another useless term because of it's flagrant overuse by some against anyone who says something positive about women.

Not BP, but i wouldn't mind them being beaten. They are pathetic, and therefore weak. There's no such thing as "nice-guys", and it shouldn't be a shock. They are basically "alpha-assholes" acting nice to have sex with women.

I don't have a problem with men wanting to do nice things for women and to help them because they like the thanks and appreciation. I think it's pretty disgusting to expect sexual favors as a reward for good deeds, though.

The top urban dictionary is this

A person (usually a male) who sees the typical maiden in distress, and believes that he can help her. A male version of the "mother figure" that some girls become.

In that case, I think he is a little delusional but has good intentions. The reddit/RP version of white knight strikes me as the NiceGuy(TM) in that case annoying as fuck. But I find its an age thing and NiceGuys usually grow out of it.

I met some NiceGuys in Highschool but nothing really since.

As you describe them, I don't have a positive view. Voluntarily defending women, particularly when unprompted, doesn't make you entitled to anything. Plus he should be following his own opinions rather than what he thinks will get him laid.

I think it's a good thing to stand up for people who need it, but if you're doing it just to get into someone's pants then I don't consider it any more noble than any other type of flirting.

I'm fine with men believing women inherently deserve protection, they're following ancient pro-social instincts to preserve the species. It makes plenty of biological sense. But, expecting sex in exchange for help is retarded, it's the same "nice guy" entitled attitude we're all sick of seeing. From what I've witnessed in the "manosphere", misogynists accuse any man with positive feelings toward women as being a white knight.

It's either his unconditional duty to protect women or he protects women he thinks will have sex with him. One is fine, the other is problematic.

White Knights are just guys that think they gain social capital by blindly casting themselves in a protector/defender role. And probably get validation by doing so. It's not necessarily sexual. And it's not always about women.

Yeah I don't like those guys. He thinks that he already owns her just because they became friends. He called dibs on her and thus tries to ruin all her other chances.

He's acting like they are already in that committed relationship that he has in his head.

Even if she is obviously attracted to me he will try to stop her from making her own decisions.

I hate those guys. They try to force her into a relationship even though it's clear that she's on the look for someone better.

On the other hand there are also moments when that behavior is acceptable. For example if she has a boyfriend or if she's too drunk.

It's also no surprise that those guys end in unhappy marriages. They start relationships by always doing everything for a girl that's way above their league. They act like a butler that loves to shower her with gifts and later are surprised if they end up getting used as a wallet. All she knows about him is that he will fulfill her every wish so it should be no surprise that she keeps on wishing for things.

I also have the feeling that a good portion of the men on the manosphere have been white knighting nice guys and thus developed such a negative view of women. They never really treated them as equals (more like princesses and a price to win) in the first place, but after having been "used" by them for so long without ever getting sex in return they developed a deep rooted hatred.

Depends on the amount of entitlement that comes with this behaviour. Mere white-knighting is just pitiful, when he additionally tries to emotionally pressure me into giving him a chance, that's disgusting. It should also be noted that white-knighting is not a purely male thing. I've found that in many smallish fandoms (for unknown bands, fringe sports teams, anything that allows much direct contact between artist and fans) there are women displaying the exact same behaviour and it's just that pathetic.

The following is the form of white-knighting I know the best. There are other forms as well, and others have talked about them.

This attitude was (at least to some degree) promoted in some of the Christian groups I was part of/Christian literature I read in my youth. "It's a man's god given duty to protect and serve his wife and to a lesser degree women in general."

In this case it probably comes from combining the believes "the husband should be the head of the family" and "leadership means to serve selflessly". But I can't shake the feeling that the duty to serve selflessly gets more emphasis in this case than in normal forms of leadership. I guess the people who promote it want Christianity to a) keep "wives, obey your husbands" because it is in the bible and thus can't be questioned and b) pretend to have the moral high ground over societal attitudes and feminism. ("See, we are even nicer to women than others. Our men don't have to treat women equally, they have to serve them. So could you please agree that women having to obey men is not sexist.")

My opinion on this? Well, it's obvious that I don't agree with this notion anymore. From a Christian perspective I'd argue that in God's eyes the difference between men and women doesn't matter, so their religious obligations are largely the same. (I can make a theological/biblical case for that, but this isn't a theology sub, so it is rather off topic.) From a human perspective I think relationships work better if people are allowed to be selfish to some degree, but also have a willingness to compromise.

As I said, there are other forms of white-knighting that aren't as religiously charged.

A white knight is a guy who, is a nice guy, that tries to protect women in the hopes she will have sex with him.

No he does it to win her affection and love. Say what you want about white knights but they are not conniving pussy chasers. They truly believe pedastaling displays affection and love and respect.
