They think that a lot of prostitutes are being taken advantage of , sex trafficking etc. Of course I personally think that legalizing prostitution could actually help end sex trafficking but whatever.

It is rather telling when feminists oppose reducing women down to simply providing sex while at the same time opposing monetizing sex because that would reduce women's power.

Prostitution is legal in Australia and it hasn't caused the downfall of our feminist society so they really shouldn't worry to much about what it might do in the US.

I don't know that feminists oppose legalizing prostitution. It seems to me like many support more legal rights and safety for sex workers.

On the other hand, most women do view prostitution as an undesirable profession and would not want to be forced into it before being able to get unemployment benefits or whatever. I see a lot of men state that prostitution is no different that cleaning toilets or working in fast food or other unpleasant service jobs, but letting ugly or old men have sex with you is just not the same. There is no fine line between cleaning a toilet and rape.

Women have a monopoly on vaginal sex (the best kind) and thus can command whatever price they desire (usually twenty to life of slavery from the male).

Prostitution not only breaks their monopoly, but also creates competition in quality.

So the reason feminists oppose prostitution the way they do in Sweden where its legal for a prostitute to sell sex but illegal for a man to buy sex, is to keep their monopoly on sex, keep prices astronomical, and quality low.

Its the same reason women are the main slut shamers. Sluts give away vagina cheaply, undercutting the vagina cartel.

Most or all feminists I know are in favor of legal prostitution. I'm on the fence. Prostitution is legal in my country, and still there are so many prostitutes who are underage, forced, intellectually disabled, and/or of course, addicted. So legalization doesn't seem to solve all these problems. But I definitely support the concept.

How is that hypocrisy? Anyway, it's because of concerns of women's wellbeing. I'm personally in favor of legalizing it, but I know some feminists are worried if it'll hurt women.

I think this is an interesting topic, I'm about to start my dissertation on the legalisation and regulation of prostitution and so far it seems that people aren't opposed to prostitution itself but the safety issues and the risk of exploitation by brothel managers, there's also mention of tax implications - some people consider it "vulgar" to impose tax on prostitution even if it becomes a legitimate profession.

It might be that some women think legalized prostitution and they associate having to have what they consider intimate to be shared with, or worse - forced upon by - strangers who may have STDs, be unkempt and smelly, be a serial rapist/killer, etc. So that could explain such reaction.

As for me, if it actually does not worsen human trafficking, I'm okay with it. Whatever happens between consenting adults is not my business. Some people genuinely like having sex and in that case, why not make a living out of it? But I think they are far and few between and for others who go into it for strictly financial reasons, is that really empowering? It's just another avenue of income at best.
