Nearly all of the women I know are pretty open minded about sex and generally aren't judgemental about others' sex lives. Yet, when the topic of legalizing prostitution comes up, they are invariably against it and their reactions range from horror to mild disdain. This happens even with women whom I would consider to be social liberals: in favor of pot legalization, pro abortion, etc. I've talked to others about it and the consensus is that most women loathe legalized prostitution.

Why is this? Shouldn't modern, sex positive women and feminists be in favor of legalized prostitution because it's financially empowering? Why is giving sex away through hookups OK and getting paid for providing sex not? Or are the women I talked to just prudes, at least on this issue?
