Relationships are a mix of emotional bond and sexual attraction. If one of the two suffers, the relationship will likely end. The best way to keep the emotional bond is to always consider your partner one of your best friends (even better if she is a better friend to you than your best same-sex friend). The best way to keep the sexual attraction is to continue to be adventurous in the bedroom. If either of these things starts to lag, you should immediately seek counseling (if married), and if that doesn't help, it's best to immediately end the relationship.

As for pre-relationship, I think everyone is unique but that you can classify people based upon personality types and based upon a healthiness/unhealthiness scale when it comes to mental health. Some people have a personality type that is more conducive to wanting steady relationships than others. Some people want adventure and drama and are less conducive to wanting steady long-term relationships. If you find someone who wants a steady relationship but also wants lot of adventure or drama, that person is not inherently more likely to cheat on you, but you have to be willing to give that person the lifestyle he or she wants. Usually cheating is more a mental health thing than a personality thing. Someone who is less mentally healthy will be more likely to cheat without breaking off the relationship first due to insecurity about being alone. Healthier people will break off the relationship first and then proceed to find a new person.

Most people eventually end up with somebody of a similar level of attractiveness, but there are exceptions. Both sexes try to optimize in their own way. For men, it's usually being attracted to women out of their league, discovering that such women are not attracted to them, and then reacting either through whining to their male friends or "going their own way" temporarily. For women, it's usually having sexual relationships with men out of their league, finding out that said man does not have the same commitment to them that she has to him, and being disappointed and disliking men for a bit. Most mature/mentally healthy people realize that they were aiming too high and eventually find someone that is not optimal but still makes them happy. Most immature/mentally unhealthy people become misogynists/misandrists and end up posting a lot on internet message boards.

Thing is that there are a lot of subcultures in America. Any subculture likely has its own dating habits. Trying to generalize all of these subcultures together just isn't a smart way of doing it.

Some of the most fundamental things we can see in most of these subcultures is respect. Both parties want to be respected, and feel like their opinions matter to the other. People want to be valued, that is to feel like their SO cares for them, and wants them to remain in the relationship.

Men have emotions. The full range of them too. Men want to feel loved and cared for. They want to be able to crawl into bed with a woman and let out their worries. Not all men, but the majority of them.

are kind of fucked up. the feminist movement jumped the shark and is more concerned with making up activist stats than with bad methodologies make those bad stats memetic and propagating them than they are about real equality. right now there are load of systematic way the society is biased against men. and all feminists are doing is breeding distrust and scorn. at this point what going on in academic feminism could be considered a dehumanization campaign.

People generally form family units with people of similar backgrounds- most people are looking for someone who is similar enough to be tribe but different enough not to be incest. Some people are outbreeders or inbreeders. Usually people run multiple sexual scripts simultaneously and may have primary or secondary sexuality, for example resorting to homosexuality only if all the people of their gender are removed from the environment.

Female status provides a buffer protection from restrictions on sexual behaviour. A virginal member of the poorest social classes and caste generally has to deal with being considered both dirty and sexually available to all comers just by existing, while members of the highest, wealthiest groups can demand the most attention, chew through lovers like popcorn and be treated as above reproach. The people in the middle do a push-pull where they actually have to care about these things.
