I was wondering what you guys thought of the "fake gamer girl" trope. Basically, the idea of a hot "feminine" girl who claims to be a gamer/tomboy for the sake of getting male attention, but who actually has limited interest in masculine things. I know it's considered to be a sexist trope, but I think it's pretty accurate at least some of the time- the only "gamer" girls I know who genuinely love gaming aren't hot and feminine. They're basically the female version of male video game addicts.

Meanwhile i know a lot of girls who claim to be "such nerds" but they only play video games or do that kind of thing when men are around, or they've played a lot of Candy Crush or Sims or whatever and they think this qualifies them as a nerd.

But of course, I don't want to jump and say that ALL hot women who like video games are necessarily lying- I'm sure there are many girls who are cute and genuinely like these things. But generally, people are "nerds" because they're not hot and sexy and charismatic. As someone who was genuinely unpopular as a kid, fantasy novels and that kind of thing was something I used to escape from reality. If you're already gorgeous and popular, what reality are you escaping from? But then again, I guess you could argue these girls could have been awkward in their youth and then blossomed.

So what do you think? When an 8/10 girl goes on about how she's such a dork/nerd and loves playing video games and being one of the guys, is your initial reaction that she's lying, or do you think "OMG MY DREAM WOMAN!!!!"

Personally, as a woman whose interests are more feminine, I have run into so many guys who were blindsided by women who faked tomboy attitudes in order to get attention, and it was so irritating that behaving in a delicate, feminine way didn't always earn me the attention of men. I was passed up several times in my single years for loud, pants-wearing, beer-chugging girls who essentially assaulted guys to get attention. Being quiet and kind didn't exactly trump that. I can't stand hearing guys go on about how they only want girls who can chug whiskey and trash-talk, it makes me feel like all my feminine behaviors that I've worked pretty hard to cultivate are useless (luckily I have a boyfriend who appreciates them, but I've even seen him complimenting female friends for being "like one of the guys" and it drives me nuts!)

So...thoughts??
