I'm not sure pathologizing porn addiction is the way to go. Unlike chemical addiction such as alcohol, or substance abuse - porn addition falls in to the silent robbery of attention and will often overlap into financial mismanagement.

If your "porn addict" is also paying for subscription services, only fans content, additional paid content to see pay per view or engaging in online activity with sex workers, the financial pain of that is often compared to a partner's secretive gambling habit. It also robs the relationship of the time and consideration that should be invested in the relationship.

Then there is the consideration on the why of porn consumption. I'm disturbed that in the overwhelming majority of cases porn is not accurate, leaving open the idea of exploitation and general degrading behavior that many of us (here at FDS) have been exposed too.

I have a great deal of issue with the line "and he's less likely to remember that my pleasure is just as important as his." Nah. This is unacceptable, that lapse in to admitting that he's abusive and it's not a once off. Or even worse written off as "Oh he's an addict" or "I'm not understanding enough" this is sophisticated shit fuckery I grant you that.

At the end of the day, in a long term relationship 10 years down the track when you've comingled assets and the rest of it - do you really still want this happening? It's a no from me.

Porn addiction needs to be seen as no different then compulsive cheating. Men have gaslit women into thinking they are poor victims that just need love and support to get them away from their need for sexual interactions from other women. "My husband stopped cheating on me this week and our sex was great! But now he's gone back to it and he's ignoring me now. I just need to keep supporting him because our relationship is so nice during the times he's not cheating!"

Like many of you, I think what stood out the most is this idea some women have that they need to be “ride or dies” and “my man” this or that or that they need to be there to see a ~transformation.~ All too giving and not nearly selfish enough, which would be for our own benefit. Always sad.

Currently, I know a couple who would really be better off separating but they won’t (of course not) and a mutual friend was romanticizing the situation: “You know, it’s so good when you can learn who your partner is on a deeper level and work through your problems” and it’s like, sis... the man in question needs actual therapy. He has anger problems, is a narc, and holds resentment against that woman because her family doesn’t approve of how he treats her so they argue EVERY DAY. But yep, it’s all real sweet. Can’t wait for them to get engaged.
