Cruella deVille in 101 Dalmatians. Being a massive dog person, from childhood I hated her with a passion but when I was watching the film again last night for the first time in years, in one scene she said,

"More good women have been lost to marriage than to war, famine, disease and disaster. You have talent, darling, don't squander it."

No clue why I never processed that quote as a kid but if you got rid of the fact she was a puppy killer, she was assertive, relied on nobody and she had her own career. The woman would've made Miranda Priestly drop to her knees. And she definitely wasn't wrong about the quote in the movie.

The Wicked Witch of the West. Some entitled teenager killed her sister and then stole the shoes that should have rightfully gone to her. Don't blame her for spending the rest of the movie trying to get her stolen property back and get some justice for her sister.

This is kind of an obscure one, but Kuvira from The Legend of Korra. She clawed her way to the top and, for a good while, became an all-powerful empress dictator. True queen energy right there. I was actually genuinely sad when she was taken down.

Any female villain written by Gillian Flynn obviously, every character played by Jessica Lange on American Horror Story, i loved many of the villains on Orphan Black like Rachel Duncan, Evie Cho and Virginia Coady. All of them total alpha women in control with many traits i can admire (minus the villainy of course lmao) but also well written and complex. Theres also the female antiheroes that fall in the punishing creepy and/or rapist men category like India from "Stoker" or Mary from "American Mary" that im fond of. And how about real historical women that are portrayed as villains in period dramas like Caterina Sforza who led armies in renaissance Italy or Catherine de Medici who was regent of medieval France and a real powerhouse. I just live for these types of characters and I'm glad we're seeing more and more of them.

Her burning the city was completely out of character and yet idiots try to act like her prior behaviors could be called "warning signs" of her going mad.

"Look how CRAZY and RUTHLESS she was for killing the men who tried to rape, enslave, and murder entire cities!! How didn't you see it coming?! Woke, but too much??"

Meanwhile, Ned, Robb, Jon, and countless others do the same exact thing to men who have done far less and are seen as honorable heroes.

Classic scenario of a woman being held to a far higher moral standard than men, while the men are idolized for it.

Been a long time since I watched the movie, but I remember liking Sigourney Weaver's character in "Working Girl" more than anyone else in the movie. She wasn't warm and fuzzy, but I couldn't see her as unlikeable, the way the movie wanted me to see her.

Eve from the Bible. She did what she thought was right even though she knew there would be consequences and everyone would turn on her. If it weren't for Eve being brave and following her intuition if you're the sort that believes the Bible if it weren't for Eve we wouldn't be here.
