It’s horrifying. They’re also using their mental illness to excuse their shitty behaviour and abuse and hurt others. I remember someone commenting that they advise staying away from men who say are depressed - and I agreed, I also added that they tend to be manipulative, controlling and aggressive.

part of these male symptoms are considered to be borderline personality disorder symptoms, which is more prevalent in women. i wonder how often it's maybe "just" depression, but is misdiagnosed.

but even then, it's interesting. women tend to experience auto-aggression. like self harm, sex with strangers etc. men tend to lash out. i honestly wonder why that's the case.

i’m wondering if men really do become abusive due to depression or anxiety, are abusive to start out with but then their behaviors are emphasized by their mental illness, or if they’re just often comorbid with substance abuse disorder and personality disorders. probably a little of each.

regardless, i don’t have the wherewithal to date a man who describes himself as depressed or anxious. i’m sure that there are cool guys who are just currently fighting some demons, but i cannot tolerate one more partner who threatens suicide, scream-cries in my face in a scary way, or gets angry with my good moods and success ever again. i’m not going to take that chance.

nobody is owed a relationship. i think that’s why this place gets so much hate. people think that it is a human right. nobody is arguing that they don’t deserve food, shelter, an education, a salary. hell, i think that we should raise the minimum wage and make housing a human right. however, dating is a luxury. individual women aren’t your parents, your government, or your school, so they owe you nothing. if someone won’t date you because they find you irritable, scary, and lethargic, try dating someone else.

I experienced migraines, digestive problems, psychogenic pain/symptoms and taking risks when I was depressed, I'm a woman. Everything was internalising and self destructive through, I wouldn't abuse or hurt others and never abused substances.

I think me and my daughter are both highly sensitive people who experience psychogenic pain easily. She told me the other day she feels things she sees and I asked her what she meant and she said when she see's people hugging she can feel it, not as strong as an actual hug would feel though, she said when she sees anyone pick up a knife, such as a sharp kitchen knife, she feels a faint stabbing sensation. We both get physical symptoms from arguments with people. But I think anyone can experience psychogenic pain.

Also I always get migraines that start a few hours before thunderstorms, I thought am I mad but told my GP about this, she said it is an actual thing and there are some people who have this, I think it's more common in people who are highly sensitive and with things like ADHD and autism.

That's only if the guy already has an abusive personality construct, i.e., batterer traits. You can't grow or lose healthy character from a shift in mood. How heinous that the authors of this checklist would try to normalize male abuse or even depict it as pitiable. It might be common but it's not normal.

I’m on the brunt end of this right now. My boyfriend lives above someone who apparently had deep feelings for me and has engaged in verbal abuse against me, is actively trying to somehow ban me from being at my boyfriend’s place, and waits to hear when I leave to try to ambush me. It’s fucking terrifying. And what’s worse is the amount of coddling this over grown man child is getting. It’s why I don’t have male friends. You can’t even be nice to these assholes without them taking that kindness all types of ways. I struggle with mental health issues but I’ve never lashed out at others the way he is doing. The double standard is sickening and filling me with rage currently.

Same with ADD and autism. The technical symptoms are the same: inability to focus and complete tasks, inability to read social cues, etc., but the more emotional manifestations?

Symptoms in women: quiet, sullen, withdrawn, self-hatred. In men: Loud, disruptive, angry.
