I don’t understand why any woman would want to live in a van and shit in a composting bucket and shower at truck stops, but apparently millennials are really into it. The /vanlife subreddit is really popular.

This couple spent $20k to convert a depreciating asset (van) into their home. I would avoid any man that thinks this is a good idea. My ex is also an engineer like the guy in the article and wanted to do the same thing- quit his job, buy a camper van, and drive to California to work at a ski resort for minimum wage because it would be “fun” and “living the dream.” I call this a mid-life crisis. Well after I dumped him he blew his savings on a 1989 camper van ($25k plus $5k in repairs/upgrades) while living in an apartment. That could have been a nice down payment on a house. Meanwhile, I’m looking at buying another house while he has nothing except his stupid van and a sports car. And his gf LOVES it and recently let him move in with her in the house that SHE owns. But hey, I let him do the same thing, he moved into MY house that I owned so I can’t knock her for it, I was stupid too but now I know better.

Van life = a step above living in a cardboard box under a bridge. Avoid any guy who dreams about doing this one day, unless he is talking about buying an RV when he’s 65+. All I see in “van life” are guys who want to be free to run away from responsibilities and can’t handle the stress of having a real job. And their girlfriends are loving it and happily living in a van with them?! Is that how low we have stooped?
