It’s true! There was a whole 99% Invisible episode about the song’s origin story. The Baja Men’s song was a cover of Anslem Douglas’s song Doggie, which is the one mentioned in the tweet. There’s also speculation about whether the hook can be traced to the Gillette and 20 Fingers song “You’re a Dog” which is def an FDS anthem 😂

I thought it was about nothing and just funny noise forced onto society to make people insane to distract from the second Iraq invasion. Like it was brutal going through senior year, fast food work and first year of college being unable to escape it.
