One of my ex NVMs (yes, multiple, I am recovering) pretended to be liberal but he was worse. He said he was so against certain things but then his actions did not match with what he said. He was emotionally abusive and always thought things should be done his way. But then out the other side of his mouth he said he supported women in positions of power (like president). Dumb.

Most of the time the guys who say these things already know, they just don't care. You don't have to prove yourself. Women need to get used to explaining themselves only once and if the guy keeps being willfully obtuse about it, just being like "Yeah, I get what you mean, but I still don't agree", period. Yes. Men love to blame women's issues on "nature", "it's just the way it is", "that's not my fault, not my problem, it's a world problem", but when it comes to their problems they expect women to rearrange their lives to accomodate men. "Give the shy guy a chance!", "waste your time dating a broke man!", how about the shy guy goes to therapy and the broke guy gets a proper job or accepts that he needs to pursue a woman in a lower league? Isn't that the type of responses that men give women when women ask men to change their standards? Yeah, that's what I thought.

It's better to explain things casually to other women that you trust, men won't really listen, they just want a lable that says that their good guys so they can have more girls, but they are driven by the same interest that conservative men. Women will listen because they will understand what you're talking about, they will often see that they have been used and want to stop that shit. That's how we gain power. Otherwise men just will try to explain feminism to us, because they think that feminism is about making sex more easy to them. They see only they benefit and will screw us over, so it's better to open the ayes of other women than wasting time to convince a men that women disserve basic respect.

Why are you even explaining your standards at all? Stop putting the expectation on others that they should change their perspective and agree with you, and take responsibility for yourself. You cannot control others, but you can control yourself.

I actually agree with what you’re saying, but what I don’t agree with is wasting time justifying yourself to people who clearly don’t respect your values and boundaries. You can choose to cut them out of your life, or limit interactions if that’s not possible. You will also find yourself less stressed and tired when you do this. Allocate your effort to things that are worth your time.

IME, only the guys who aren’t loudly liberal or conservative have ever been worth it. Vocal conservatives are vocal misogynists with old fashioned double standards, and as we all know, “woke” dudes aren’t much better but they’ll gaslight you into thinking he views you as an equal before pulling his shit.

The Goldilocks dudes are usually the ones who don’t really think about politics, maybe they’ve got some views here and there, nothing too extreme but they’ve never done a deep dive. It’s not a guarantee, sometimes these guys turn into the “enlightened centrist” (ugh), but I’ve found those types more likely to listen.

This. Can’t stand talking about porn or anything else, really, with other women. At a lunch with coworkers the other day, one told me she sent a guy friend screenshots with time stamps from our work CMS to prove she was doing what she said she was doing. I was like honey, what??? No. You don’t need to prove yourself to that man or any man. She brushed me off, “I know, I know,” but in an almost eye-roll-y way.
